About this listing
Originally built in 1900 by Isaac Churchill, this exquisite heritage home was recently renovated for over five years, giving it a light-filled, open concept interior that has to be seen to be believed. With over 21 skylights, vaulted fourteen-foot ceilings, and meticulously refinished original fir floors, the house is the ultimate combination of old meets new. Unique modern and mid-century furnishings are complemented by an eclectic collection of art and photography. The home offers two large bedrooms upstairs, with exposed beams and multiple skylights -- including one over the jacuzzi bathtub! On the main floor is a large sitting room with an extensive book collection, a dining room with a custom-built table and crystal chandelier, and a large cook's kitchen with a gas stove, espresso machine, and leather bar stools. The living room offers a vaulted ceiling with eight skylights, a gas fireplace, a large sectional sofa and flat-screen TV. The room is surrounded on two sides by a heritage-style porch, and looks out over a koi pond and lush landscaping in the back yard.
The house is literally steps from idyllic MacLean Park in the heart of Strathcona - Vancouver's first neighbourhood. There is lots of street parking right out front, and the house is a block from several wonderful delis, grocers and cafes. There's even a fantastic cheese shop less than three blocks away! Best of all, it is ten minutes' stroll to historic Gastown, five minutes to the seawall in False Creek, ten minutes to BC Place stadium and Rogers Arena. There are frequent buses less than two blocks away, as well as a nearby Skytrain station.
You will be amazed by the peace and tranquility, so conveniently located in the heart of the city.
Absolutely no smoking! We're totally gay-friendly, and absolutely family-friendly (we have a young daughter, so we have to make sure things are alright by her)!
This is a beautiful house in a lovely neighborhood. We traveled to Vancouver for the World Cup with our three young children. The kids loved all the toys and books in the house, as well as watching the fish in the koi pond and playing in the water at the nearby playground. And the laundry room was much used and appreciated! The wifi was strong and the breeze through the abundant windows and ceiling fans helped keep the house comfortable even in the high heat.
Our hosts gave us great tips about the neighborhood (directions to the local market, which bus route to take), and we were easily able to walk or take a quick bus ride to anywhere in the City. It was great not having a car. After our five day stay, we felt really connected to Strathcona and Vancouver, in a way that we absolutely would not have felt in a hotel. We are fortunate to have been able to stay in this simultaneously gorgeous and comfortable house, we can't imagine a better fit for people traveling with kids. (And Samantha and Jason are really nice and helpful, too!)

We love Vancouver and our neighbourhood of Strathcona and hope that you will too!
