Great accommodation with a very lush and cozy garden. Chris was helpful and friendly. The nearest beach was not the most child friendly but easily accessible. The pool in the garden was a wonderful asset during the hot afternoons. Next time visiting Samara we will definitely stay here again.
The photos don't even do this place justice. The garden is lovely, like a mini paradise, the house is spacious, the pool is small, but very nice. The beach is really closeby.
The house itself is indeed, as I've read before, a little 'rough around the edges'. But if you don't focus on the small details (that, honestly, don't really matter since you're in paradise), you will have a great stay at a place where there is a good kitchen, shower, nice bed, great hammocks, a nice livingroom....
It's also a big plus that Chris will let you use two bikes, it was a great way to see more of the surroundings and to go to the village.
Beware that it can happen that there is no water. This happened two times during our stay, we were one and a half day without water, but this was the case in the whole village. Just stay relaxed and go to the beach ;)
We only got to meet Chris on the last day of our stay, a friend of his was hosting us. Chris seemed like a quiet, friendly guy and it seems he is a nice host.
This house is highly recommendable, we had a great stay.
Chris' house was exactly as described and had everything you'd need for a short or extended stay. Pots, pans, utensils, etc. were all there and there was a market within walking distance. In fact, everything is within walking distance! Chris provided bath towels, beach towels, and sheets for all of us.
Since this was our first Airbnb experience, we had many questions for Chris and he was always able to help. He was there when you needed him, but definitely gave you space. He would casually check in to say "hi" and make sure everything was going well and then go on with his day.
Directions in Costa Rica vary dramatically from the US, so landmarks, number of turns, piles of dirt, etc. are all fair markers.
Samara is awesome! We'll definitely be back.
Hawk's place on the outskirts of Samara was perfect for us: beautiful; serene; and close enough to reach town and beaches by foot or bike but far enough to avoid traffic and noise. The house was modest yet had everything two people needed. The dip pool in the back was cold and refreshing against the dry season's heat. Hawk was attentive and available, yet respected the privacy we sought. We had dozens of things to do. Hawk's place was the perfect platform for doing them all, or none of them. Recommended for self-reliant travelers who create their own adventures; not recommended for tourists dependent on glossy amenities and guided experiences.
We were a bit hesitant using airbnb, as well as travelling to Costa Rica during the rainy season - we can happily say everything worked out amazingly! As soon as we arrived at Casa del Halcon we were made to feel welcome. Chris was extremely knowledgeable and had a great list of contacts and resources to make our every want possible. We were up early everyday in order to enjoy the sunshine and various activities Chris set up for us.
Samara is beautiful! We took an incredible canopy tour, visited local waterfalls, learned to surf, experienced 'Tico' style fishing out on the ocean, and discovered other nearby beaches thanks to the bikes Chris lent us (all in a short 5 days).
Staying at Chris' was perfect! Everything was clean, and not to mention well decorated. Other pluses were the great water pressure, amazing landscaping, pool, full kitchen (including coffee pot), comfortable bed, and all the wonderful noises of nature. Having our morning cup of coffee out on the patio and listening to the nearby monkeys, birds and other animals is truly wonderful. We were extremely sad to leave - so we started planning our next visit already!
saludos y pura vida
Our stay in casa del halcon was pretty good. Its super close to the beach and the house gives you a feel of being in the middle of jungle paradise. I personally loved laying in the hammocks after a long day at the beach. The only downsides I encountered while being here was the coffee maker didnt work and our shower leaked. Besides that I would definitely come back and stay here. The town of samara is the most peaceful little town ive ever been to, and Ive had my share of traveling around the world. Ive never experienced people so friendly and from all over the world! Overall chris was a great host! Pura vida!

My name is Chris Hawk (Most friends call me Hawk). I'm originally from Canada but have been traveling extensively for the past 18yrs. I moved to Samara in 2012 and am very happy with this choice. Samara is a wonderful town with an incredible vibe where the locals, ex-pats and tourists all mingle effortlessly.
I am a certified hatha yoga instructor and was working with an addictions retreat center here before finding this amazing property. I am open to working with anyone that would like yoga, pranayama (yogic breathing) or meditation classes.
Wishing you an amazing adventure in samara - HAWK
