Casa del Halcon offers a quiet, peaceful space to stay with a lovely pool to cool down and great hammocks. Truly relaxing. We loved hearing and seeing all the jungle abundance: humming birds, monkeys, tropical birds and insects: awesome! Chris is a caring and gracious host. We can see why he chose Sámara as a place to live! The town itself (about a mile away) is also amazing with such an incredible atmosphere... Great beach .. Palm trees... Fabulous food and everything we wanted in a tropical holiday...paradise...! as they say in Costa Rica: pura vida!

Chris' house is a good place to stay in beautiful Samara. Our family stayed for a month and appreciated Chris' kindness and generosity. Chris provided good tips about places to go and things to do and was particularly great with our kids. We loved the terrace, the grounds and listening to the howler monkeys. There were some frustrations during our stay, most notably that the water was cut off by the city for almost a week (not Chris' fault) as well as issues with the pool and air conditioning which took a few days to repair. Chris kindly treated us to a waterfall tour as a result. The house is a fair distance from the main town and beach. It's an easy bike ride (bikes are provided) but if you need to walk for any reason, it takes about half an hour and the road is bumpy and dusty.

Response from Chris:
Hi Alexis. A pleasure having you , the kids were a blast to have around. It was unfortunate that their were some issues during your stay . Repairs are challenging in a small beach town hours away from any sort of big city as supplies and quality help is very hard to find. Toilet , Ceiling Fans , Fridge , A/C & Pool all happend to go down during your stay , that was not a fun series of events for me to address especially since i was dealing with the passing of my dog and 2 friends within the same timeline, so i thank you for your patience and understanding. P.S. The water was out only during the days and it was 4 in total, it was avialable from 9pm to 8am , tho it felt like a week to all of us in the area affected. P.P.S Taxi is 4$ to the center of town if u dont want to ride a bike (Which is provided and have baby seats). Living in a 3rd world reality can be a bit challenging for people , but in the end i find it brings most people a deeper sense of gratitude once they return home to their comforts. I love this life and the sanctuary i have created

Casa del Halcon is a great place for exploring the surroundings of Samara, which by the way is a wonderful little beach town with extremely friendly people saying hola to you everywhere you go. We are a family with kids (four and one year) and we really enjoyed our stay. Chris lives in a house on the property and greets you everyday but without disturbing your privacy (more like a friend stopping by, actually). Chris got us a baby crib and a baby seat for one of the bikes and we could easily take the bikes whenever we left the house. When we arrived the fridge was dying but he replaced it after some days. We became friends with the other family staying at Casa del Halcon 2 on the same property and went to the beach together, spent christmas together, had dinners etc. So much more fun than just being isolated, which you can be sometimes being on vacation. The wifi was not great unfortunately. But hey, on vacation you shouldn't use your laptop/phone too much anyway... The little pool in between the houses is great to take a dip in to cool down after being on the beach. We would love to come back to Chris and Casa del Halcon someday!

My friend Katie and I stayed at Casa del Halcon for 9 days. Chris had his driver, Rafa, pick us up (beautiful human being) and drop us at the house. Chris wasn't there to receive us since we hit some unplanned traffic, but he made sure we had the wifi password, clean water and a key to the house. He had also invited us to a Full Moon party he was DJing that night, so our first night was perfect. My friend and I each picked our hammock and spent a considerable amount of time just lounging about. The house was wonderful and very clean and tidy when we arrived. We noticed the ants were almost magically present when food was out in the kitchen, but as long as we didn't leave anything out it wasn't really a problem, and also somewhat expected since ... it's Costa Rica! There are bugs, just be prepared! Chris answered all of our questions and gave some ideas of what to do out in town. He provided us with bikes which was the perfect way to get around town. He was in an out through the week and our interaction was fairly limited but he was available to help us out whenever we needed. He also helped us trouble shoot the grill one night so we could grill up some fish we had caught earlier in the day. Generally all around Chris was amicable, accommodating and a wonderful host! His pup, Ganesh, was a real treat, he hung around the house with us most days and is a very sweet boy! Samara was the perfect little get away. Everything we wanted to experience was right there in town or a short drive away. The house has a beautiful garden that provides some privacy from the road and a wonderful small bathing pool in the back. We weren't there too much during the day, but most nights were spent outside in the hammocks, or playing cards and enjoying the night air. It was considerably warmer in Samara than what we were used to so we used the A/C at night which was perfect. We also loved having a kitchen at our disposal. There was an issue with the propane tank, but one of Chris's counterparts, Mario, helped us out and replaced the broken part. Everyone we met Samara is so warm, helpful and gracious. We would recommend staying with Chris if you are looking for a relaxing vacation/get away or even some romantic down time. Hopefully we will be staying there again sometime soon! Pura Vida :)

Not only the best place to stay in Samara but the best Airbnb experience you could ask for! I can't describe how wonderful Chris is as a host. He welcomed us onto his beautiful property & we immediately felt relaxed & comfortable. Chris walked us through the property, ins & outs of Samara, even filled us in on the wildlife & what to expect while in the area. He wasn't joking about the howler monkeys but after the first night it is a beautiful sound. The pictures are true to the style of the house, but what you feel while on the property & exploring Samara is indescribable. We felt safe the entire time we were on the property & in the area. The beautiful animal on the property, Ganesha, is happy to help you know you are protected & loves to keep you company. Chris is very knowledgeable about the area & provided great suggestions on where to go, the beaches to visit, best times to visit certain areas, restaurants, & pretty much anything you want to know! Be sure to spend an afternoon relaxing in the pool & in one of the hammocks. Choosing to stay at Casa del Halcon definitely made this one of the best vacations I've ever had! I will without a doubt be back to Samara to stay at Casa del Halcon, Chris, & Ganesha! Pura Vida

My name is Chris Hawk (Most friends call me Hawk). I'm originally from Canada but have been traveling extensively for the past 18yrs. I moved to Samara in 2012 and am very happy with this choice. Samara is a wonderful town with an incredible vibe where the locals, ex-pats and tourists all mingle effortlessly.
I am a certified hatha yoga instructor and was working with an addictions retreat center here before finding this amazing property. I am open to working with anyone that would like yoga, pranayama (yogic breathing) or meditation classes.

Wishing you an amazing adventure in samara - HAWK
