A perfect little place...in Arcata

Apartment - Entire home/apt · A St, Arcata, CA 95521, United States

The Space

The "perfect little place to stay in Arcata" is now an award-winning place to stay as well...

Recently the Historic Design and Review Commission of our fair city, gave us a design award for our storybook style home, noting the "...outstanding level of craftsmanship and artful detailing..."
As longtime design/builders of handcrafted homes,we are grateful and happy about the recognition. And we're glad to be able to share our place with guests who are looking for something a little out of the ordinary.
What guests will find, attached to the larger home:
A new, friendly, private apartment, with its own brick-walled, terrace entry, 1 separate bedroom, 1 bath, an open kitchen-living area.(...in other words, cozy, but not a studio) Completely furnished ...you'll discover an easy place to stay and enjoy feeling 'like a local' in Arcata. It's so charming, you could call it a "pied-`a-terre"...French for 'foot on the ground' or a lodging for a short time.

Just a few blocks walk to the HSU university campus or the village plaza. Arcata is filled with cafes, artful shops, theaters, interesting, above-average groceries/delis,bakeries and a farmer's market. The famous Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Refuge and the Arcata Redwood Community Forest are just minutes from the apt.
Easy day-trip driving or biking distances to the redwoods, rivers, and scenic coast.

Fully equipped kitchen, w/dishwasher, gas oven/stove and microwave.
Plush queen bed, 2 twin sofa beds, slate-tiled shower, all linens and towels provided.
Wi-Fi, flat screen tv/dvd, and a selection of movies, books and games.

Pick up some locally-made Cypress Grove chevre and fresh-baked bread from one of the nearby bakeries. Make a salad with greens from the kitchen garden.
Have a glass of wine in the private, brick-walled garden terrace and pretend you are in Paris.

Offer a toast to your good fortune in choosing a place that's a lucky find.

  • My family and I really enjoyed our short stay in Christine's guest apartment. It served our purposes very well. It was clean and cozy. No complaints to speak of. :)

  • The tagline "a perfect little place" could not be more apt. Confession: when I was a student at HSU, I used to long to visit some of the gorgeous houses I saw up in the hillsides around campus. Staying at Christine and Gene's lovely guest apartment fulfilled these longings and then some! There were so many amenities and extra touches. We were so comfortable, even though I had a bad headcold on arrival. The property is just gorgeous and they are the nicest folks. I also liked that the apartment was within walking distance of the community forest and downtown. Definitely want to come back whenever we visit Arcata!

  • We stayed at this wonderful place and it was exactly what we were looking for. It is an attached apartment to a beautiful home, but it is extremely private and quiet. Location wise, it is particularly perfect if you are in Arcata to visit HSU.

And - the hosts could not have been nicer.

  • It is difficult to imagine a more perfect place than the one Christine has created! The apartment is gorgeous, the location is within walking distance to downtown and HSU and the hosts are gracious and kind. We wish we could have stayed longer. It is Perfect. Honestly. :)

  • My boyfriend and I decided to spend Valentines weekend in Humboldt County, checking out Arcata/Eugene and hiking in the Jedidiah Smith Redwoods. Christine's place was amazing. It was cute, comfortable, and we felt right at home. I was very thankful for the bagels and fruit in the morning before our hike. Christine also left us a bottle of wine that we enjoyed over a few rounds of Boggle before bed. Would definitely stay here again! Thank you Christine!

  • Christine's place was a delight to stay at. We loved the design of the place. It was clean and charming. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The location was conveniently located walking distance from town and the community forest. There was an ample selection of books, DVDs, and information about local hikes and attractions. Coffee, snacks, and wine waiting for us upon arrival. Christine was a friendly and gracious host.

  • A great stay! Quaint, clean, and extremely quite. We stayed two nights and enjoyed being very close to everything. Walking distance to Humboldt State University and hiking trails. Perfect.

  • The previous reviews were right. Christine's place was indeed perfect for the three of us. It has a lot of charm, is spotless, quiet and we made good use of the kitchen. Thanks again!

  • My husband and I had a quick but very nice stay in Christine's "Perfect Place". It was just exactly what we were looking for and more. When we arrived we found a basket with a bottle of wine and fresh apples from Christine's garden. Yumm! The little apartment is just the right size with a very well appointed kitchen and a perfectly cozy bed. The last night we were there, we found the most wonderful brownies waiting for us hanging from a basket by our door when we came home from dinner. Double Yumm!!
Also the location can't be beat. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go in town. I can't wait to go back to visit our daughter and we will not hesitate to call on Christine and ask to stay here again.

About
My husband,Gene, and I are longtime partners in designing and building homes on the north coast. We met as students at Humboldt State University and stayed to make this community our home, raising our family here. Some things we love to do: Gene is crazy about kitesurfing, hunting for mushrooms, keeping our kitchen garden and little fruit orchard growing (do you need any lettuce? ...how about a nice apple?) ... we both enjoy making dinner with friends (-the less-planned-ahead the better),picking blackberries and huckleberries, picnics at the beach, mountaintop sleeping out for the meteor showers, sunset happy hours, canoeing, reading, going to plays, movies, live music, travel, any time with our grown kids and the World's 3 Most-Perfect grandsons. =^ )
