This beautiful 450 sf studio is private and quiet. It's near the George R. Brown Convention Center (1.4 miles), Toyota Center (1.6 miles) as well as Minute Maid Park (1 mile) and the Dynamos Stadium (1 mile). It is the ground floor of an avant garde Larry Davis (architect) 3-story town home. This studio was specifically designed with ease, elegance and convenience for visitors. It is comfortable, yet elegant, well-appointed and very convenient to downtown.
The pretty kitchen was built with custom cabinets and granite counter top. It has plenty of cabinets for a longer stay as well as microwave and refrigerator (no freezer but ice is available by arrangement). It is stocked with plates, bowls and flatware.
There is an accommodating glass and chrome table with 2 straight-backed chairs for dining and for working at the computer.
The love seat is open at one end for lounging. It stands on a very pretty Oriental rug.
The bed and mattress are new. The duvet cover is warm and cozy. Large pillows and bright bedside lamps make reading in bed a joy.
The bathroom is appointed with warm, natural stone tile work. The above-counter glass sink is stylish. (This design detail sold me on the house! It's so lovely.) The combination of glass above the granite counter is exceptional.
The walk-in closet is a luxury for travelers with stuff.
This studio comes with a secure, enclosed garage that is great for storing supplies for convention exhibitors. The garage also provides a washer/dryer, iron and small ironing board and recycling container.
There is a small shaded yard. The young maple tree actually has a bird nest in it! In winter, this is a comforting amenity for visitors from the cold north.
The location is in an emerging neighborhood, Eado, which stands for East of Downtown. The area is slated for grand urban renewal projects because the light rail will start running through Eado in 2014. This is an exciting time to visit Eado as it begins its transformation.
I am a Doctor of Nutrition and own a delivered meal service, Victory Meals. I would be happy to deliver meals to you during your stay. Your first breakfast is on me. Delivered meals means you can focus on the purpose of your visit rather than trying to find healthy, affordable food. You will save money and stay energized during your trip.
I'm very excited about this Airbnb listing. I love meeting people. I look forward to sharing this beautiful studio with you.
The listing is a one bedroom located on the lower level of the host's home. There is no oven or range in the kitchenette but it is equipped with a microwave, sink, cabinets and mini fridge. The bed was comfortable and additional sheets, quilts and comforters were available for use. Very nice hand and bath towels were provided as well as body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, nice/thick toilet paper and mouthwash in the bathroom. The only things to be aware of when staying here is there are no perfumes, after shaves etc. allowed and you must be very cautious of noise (talking, laughing) upon entry as the sound easily travels throughout the rest of the home. Joan was a very responsive and kind host. She accomodated both our late night arrival and checkout. Joan also gave it the bed and breakfast feel by providing breakfast and bottled water for us each day. We enjoyed our weekend stay in Houston and would use the unit again.
Joan was friendly and helpful. She made it a pleasant stay. On the downside--as someone has pointed out, it is a little deceptive to stay it is a whole private house--it is a bedroom on the first floor with its own bathroom. The entrance is shared with the owner so it does not feel private. Also, the room is poorly lit and cell service for Verizon and T-Mobile is spotty. I do think Joan was a great and responsive host, but I believe she should make it much more explicit that this is a room in her house, not a stand-alone apartment.
The studio is NOT in the basement. It is on the ground floor with a back yard! It has a sliding glass door to the backyard which brings lots of light into a very pleasant studio. It is a few steps through a hallway from a private garage which includes a washer and dryer.
It has its own kitchen and bathroom which are separate from the rest of the house.
It fits the description of an entire apartment and I have accurately described it as a studio.
Dakin, if you are able, I would appreciate it if you would correct your review.
I did not meet Joan, but our email exchange was easy and very pleasant. Joan's place was comfortable and clean. I think it was a lovely place to stay, however, I did not really feel like it should have been listed as an entire home/ apt. It was more like a really private room with one main entrance for everyone. Like I said this place is very nice, but if you really want a entire home/ apt list maybe this one is not for you. If you don't mind ..then this place will be great.
Joan was a great host, enjoyed our stay in her beautiful townhouse.
Joan was very helpful although we didn't actually see her. The small studio apartment was as described. This is a good location if you're going downtown or want to party in EADO at the budding gallery scene. It's not what I would call a walkable area - not really anyplace to walk to and a bit scruffy. Overall a good experience.
Joan was a great host and her studio was clean, beautiful, and comfortable. Her communication was great via messaging, email, and text messages, which was convenient for me because I was busy attending a convention. She was friendly and accommodating. The WiFi was fast, bed was comfortable, and bathroom was VERY clean! Perfect for 2 people :)
We stayed in Joan's studio while our house was nearing completion, and we felt like we were already home. It is a great space and exactly as she described it. We found it very clean and comfortable. Joan is nice and accommodating. What a great host! I would highly recommend it to anyone. Our new house is about a block away from Joan and we look forward to being her neighbors.
Joan was a wonderful host -- warm, responsive and eager to make me comfortable in her home. Her delicious, healthy breakfasts were a very nice surprise. The location is great; just down the road from the heart of downtown, with no highway driving required!
Joan was a great host (she did everything possible to make my stay comfortable, and oh those super-tasty breakfasts!) and the studio is a great spot to stay - walking distance to downtown / conference center, and very private, with a beautiful private garden. There are train tracks nearby, so you'll occasionally hear trains during the night - could be a little annoying if you're a light sleeper, but probably not an issue for most people.
