Great location

A cozy cottage steps from the Orcas Island ferry terminal. Perfect as a home base to explore the San Juans or a place to relax and watch the boats come and go in the harbor.

The space
Sarah Jane's Cottage is a versatile space, perfect for a romantic getaway for two, or for a group looking to explore Orcas or all of the San Juan Islands. The house comes with a king bed along with a couch that pulls out into a bed. No matter whether you just want to crash in the cottage at the end of a long day of adventures or sit on the deck and watch the ferries come and go, Sarah Jane's is a cozy cottage with a gorgeous view of the water.

The space is great for a two, for a couple with children, or for a group of 3 or 4 adults who plan to spend most of their time exploring the island or outside on the deck overlooking the water.

What makes the cottage so special is the location. When you get off the ferry, you're at your private parking space in moments. You're within walking distance of everything you need - a restaurant, gift shops, a small grocery store, and transportation rentals. If you want to visit any of the other islands the Washington State Ferry system services, you can just walk down the hill to the ferry terminal and walk on to any of the inter-island ferries for free.

I believe in honesty and making sure guests know what to expect. Over the course of the last year, feedback from guests has encouraged me to make sure future guests are aware of three things: (1) the plumbing at the landing is all quite aged and as such the water pressure does leave a bit to be desired in the shower, (2) while our address is technically in Eastsound, we are about a 15 minute drive from the main core of the village, and (3) there is no full kitchen in the cottage so there is a limitation on cooking. If your vision for your trip includes elaborate meals made where you stay, Sarah Jane's might not be the right fit for you.

Guest access
Guests have access to free WiFi, Dish Network, and a DVD player. While there is no full kitchen, guests do have access to a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, a toaster oven, and single burner and pan.

Other things to note
If you're looking for a home base to explore all of the San Juans, look no further. Our proximity to the ferry terminal allows for easy walk-on or drive-on travel on the Washington State Ferries.

If it is your first time staying, you will have no trouble finding us! Just look out the window as you approach Orcas... we're the blue cottages just up the hill to the left of the ferry dock!

Within walking distance, we have a wonderful market where you can buy groceries, coffee, pre-made sandwiches and pizza, household essentials, beer, wine, or liquor. Be warned: their breakfast burritos are pretty addictive.

Also nearby is the Cottage Gift Shop. It is full of fun souvenirs and surprises - their selection of Orcas paraphernalia is unrivaled.

The historic Orcas Hotel is just across the street. The view from their charming cafe is beautiful and the food at both the cafe and Octavia's Bistro is delicious!

If you're looking to go on a kayking adventure, Orcas Outdoor Kayak Adventures leaves from the dock of our property. Orcas Outdoors can also provide bicycle rentals through Wildlife Cycles.

Just up the street, across from the Orcas Hotel, is a recent addition to the Orcas Landing family: Boat House Cider Works. Their ciders, slushies, and snacks are a great way to spend an afternoon or evening (and their view rocks).

Champagne Champagne is "an irreverent natural wine temple by the sea" that is open late and soon they'll be opening their restaurant as well!

For access to boutiques, yoga studios, museums, theaters, and more restaurants, Eastsound is a short (but beautiful) 8-mile drive away.

I moved to Orcas Island from a little town called Luray, Virginia in June of 2015. It has been a big move but I am absolutely in love with the San Juan Islands. Sharing this area with guests has been such a treat and I look forward to doing it for many years to come! I love traveling, meeting new people, listening to music, playing games, being active outdoors, and sharing stories. A question I get from guests (and passers-by) is "How did you end up out here?" Well, it's actually a wonderful story. When I was younger, my family lived in this area (bouncing around a bit but ending up in Lake Stevens). At the time, we were "financially challenged"... 5 of us crammed into 2 bedroom apartments. Whenever we could afford it, though, we would take the ferry from Anacortes and come to Orcas Island as a family treat. We loved it! Maybe there was a defining, cinematic moment where dad looked back at Orcas and declared "One day, I'm going to live there" or maybe it was just in his mind... either way, it was a dream of his to return. When his work took us to the East Coast, dad never forgot Orcas Island. He and mom worked their butts off for 14 years, crawling their way out of debt and achieving financial freedom for the first time. When dad found these cottages for sale, he knew it was time for his dream of over a decade to finally come true! And thus I moved from Virginia to be the steward of these adorable cottages.

During your stay
We do prefer to meet guests when they arrive, show them in, and make sure they get settled but that is flexible and if you'd rather we simply leave the key in the lock box attached to the front door, we're happy to do so. After check in, there will always be someone available if you have any questions or need anything during your stay.
