About This Listing
Our well-appointed Private Suite offers inviting accommodations in a secluded, quiet bedroom that is located away from the main area of the home. With a new and luxurious adjoining private bathroom, you will enjoy this "sweet" suite!
Rejuvenate your spirit, mind, and body with a relaxing stay in the premium guest suite at our classic mountain home in the quiet neighborhood of Montgomery Estates. This hillside chalet is the perfect location, adjacent to miles of hiking, mountain biking, and snow shoeing trails, close to Trout Creek, and within miles of Heavenly Ski Resort and Sierra-at-Tahoe. The property is primarily surrounded by California Tahoe Conservancy land, so our home has a fairly private setting. Try out our sledding hill for some childlike playfulness. During the warm summer season, our spacious back deck is a serene area for relaxing. With its southern exposure, it stays sunny and inviting, even in the winter. Summer is also the time to entertain your group with a game of Bocci (lawn bowling) on our secluded lawn area. Or, enjoy a lovely walk in the sanctuary of our gardens, with spring perennial flowers, summer annual flowers, and the beautiful colors of the quaking aspen trees and mountain ash trees in the autumn. Of course, winter has its own appeal and it is breath-taking to see our glistening, snow-covered trees after a fresh snow storm.
This is a 2.5 story home, (with lots of steps) built into a terraced hillside. In 2014, we updated our landscape to incorporate a serpentine pathway to get to the main entrance, for those that wish to avoid the 24 steps to get to the entry. The top floor is the main living area, with an open floor plan, including kitchen, dining room, living room and wet bar area. It has lots of windows, so the views of the surrounding trees make you feel like it's a real get-away! The bedrooms are located on the 2nd floor below the main living area, and the laundry room is accessible through the stairway to the basement. Your private bedroom is large, with lots of drawers for clothing. It has a queen size, pillow-top mattress, poster bed. There is an adjoining full bath, with custom designed shower with bench seat and hand sprayer along with an ample supply of bath towels. Beach towels can be provided upon request.
Our comfortable shared living area has a big screen TV with cable TV service, an original coctail-table PacMan game, and wireless internet service. The bookshelves are full of books,"old-fashioned" board games for adults, and creative toys for children. Your stay will include access to light breakfast buffet in our well-stocked kitchen, and morning coffee. Your private suite also includes one parking space in our driveway. During summer months, more parking is available on the street in our cul-de-sac. Our mellow, loveable St. Bernard dog will brighten your stay with her cheerful (website hidden) assured - she does not have access to our guest rooms, and she sleeps in our bedroom at night.
During the ski season, we can arrange for discount lift tickets to several local ski resorts. If you need a lesson, Sharon is a certified ski instructor!
Guests will have access to parking in our driveway, lounge chairs on the deck, hot tub in the evenings, sleds and snowshoes for playing on our hillside, continental breakfast, living room for evening relaxation with big- screen cable TV, DVD player, and PacMan Game (cocktail table style set-up) in the evenings. Washer and dryer are available in laundry room. Please ask first so we can be sure the hot tub is turned off before using the dryer.
Interaction with Guests
We are usually here to welcome our guests to our home and show them the amenities. We are year-round residents of South Lake Tahoe, and this is our home. We can assist you by guiding you to great restaurants, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, ski resorts, ski rental services, lake cruises, bicycle, paddle-board, kayak, or canoe rentals. We sell discounted lift tickets, and ski lessons for Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort, where Sharon works as a ski instructor.
Our neighborhood is called "Montgomery Estates", which is located away from the casinos, restaurants, bars, and traffic of downtown South Lake Tahoe. It is a quiet, scenic area with great homes, lots of trees and hills, Trout Creek, and friendly neighbors who are also full-time residents.
Our home is a quick 10 - 15 minute drive to restaurants, downtown shops, Heavenly Ski Resort, and Camp Richardson in the El Dorado National Forest. There limited public transportation, but guests can easily get around by car or bicycle. Parking is included. For those coming to Lake Tahoe by air, we offer convenient shuttle service to, and from, Reno Airport, and Sacramento Airport. Please ask for more details about this service.
Other Things to Note
Guests might enjoy knowing about the history of this house. It was built in 1973 by a very artistic owner. Some of the original features of the home, such as stained glass, have been preserved. We purchased the home in 2010 from an actress - Jena Malone - who was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe. Jena purchased the home in trust at age 16, after her big role in the movie "StepMom", and is currently in one of the starring roles in the movie "Catching Fire", a Hunger Games sequel.
NO SMOKING OF ANY KIND on the premises, including driveway, in cars, and on deck. This includes cigarettes and marijuana whether prescription or not.
NO Recreational Drugs on premises or used anywhere on premises.
Guests may not bring pets.
Guests may not use kitchen for their own private cooking.
Families with children under the age of 4 are not recommended simply due to the size of our gentle - but large - St. Bernard dog.
Only registered Air BnB guests may be present on premises. Guests may not invite friends to visit them at our home.
Winter Season guests must park in driveway, two vehicle spaces available.
On weekdays, Monday through Friday, the alcove off the main living area is used as a private office to conduct business via conference calls and video conferences. For that reason, we ask guests to finish breakfast by 8:00 AM on these days. Please be respectful of noise levels in the main living area during working hours 8:00 - 5:00.

Our host Sharon and Sam were both warm and welcoming into their home. The accommodations were just as described in the listing. The neighborhood was convenient and quiet. Really enjoyed the morning visits with Sharon and Sam. They served the most delicious coffee and breakfast.
You are most gracious Elvie! Thanks for the tips on improvements. I did notice that the heat register has been slid to the "closed" position in both rooms. I am going to look into new registers that will be less likely to close accidentally. Keep us in the loop if you decide to open your own Air BnB!
Sharon and Sam were wonderful hosts. We had a great stay and especially enjoyed soaking in the hot tub under the stars. We just wish we had more time to cuddle with their two adorable, and huge, Saint Bernards!
We had a fabulous stay with Sharon and Sam! They were extremely welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed breakfast on the patio each morning and Sam and Sharon had great suggestions for things to do based on our interests. Their home was absolutely lovely and the "suite" was comfortable and cozy.
I would recommend this "suite" to anyone and we will definitely be back in the future. Thank you Sharon, Sam, and Natasha for a great stay in Tahoe!
We had a wonderful time in Tahoe. Sharon and Sam went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Natasha is the sweetest dog. The place is clean and quiet. We very much enjoyed the breakfast outside on the porch.
We are planning to stay here again this winter.
I felt pampered by the extensive breakfast spread each morning, including delicious fresh fruit to put in my cereal (my preferred breakfast) and the soft cozy sheets that welcomed us each night. Sharon was happy to share maps, hiking ideas, a bird reference book, etc. I was delighted to meet mellow Natasha-the biggest dog I've ever seen! but appreciatively noted that there was not one strand of dog hair to be found in our guest bedroom and adjoining bathroom!

About the Host, Sharon
I am a certified ski instructor at Sierra-at-Tahoe. As our guest, you can purchase discounted lift tickets directly from us, and I am happy to help our guests with scheduling a personalized private ski lesson. My husband and I are outdoor enthusiasts, enjoying skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, gardening, and frequent dog walks. As avid cyclists (and a former road racer), we can provide personalized, professionally-guided cycling tours to our guests. We often spend time on our deck with a glass of wine, in casual conversation with friends, family and neighbors.

Fantastic ski destination in a wilderness setting
This is the location of the very first ski hill at Lake Tahoe, so it's interesting to see. In the summer, there is a fantastic zip-line and obstacle course that is fun for the whole family.
Nice Ambiance and Good Food. Quaint setting.
This is a lively place with live music featuring local musicians who have a bunch of loyal followers among the local crowd. Historic building and setting.
