1 br + loft apt in Little Portugal

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Rusholme Rd, Toronto, ON M6J 3H7, Canada

The Space

This apartment is the top floor of a house on a quiet one-way residential street in Little Portugal. It is equidistant from College St. and Dundas St. W where there are many great restaurants and lively bars.

There is a separate entrance to the top floor of the house. You enter into a dining area with a table that can seat up to 6 people (with the leaves out). One wall of the dining room consists of custom built bookshelves. On the opposite side, the dining area opens to the main bedroom which includes a king size bed that is very comfortable.

Both the dining room and bedroom have doors that lead into the main living space which has a kitchen area with gas stove and oven, standard size fridge/freezer, and most other equipment you'll need except for a dishwasher. There is a wine fridge, but I'll probably have that locked up!

The rest of the living area includes a writing desk, sitting area with a very comfy couch and a really big TV (with cable access), and a good stereo system (you can plug in your laptop or iPhone into it). The great thing about this room is that it has two levels and very high ceilings with skylights. Beams stretch across the room - it seems rustic, yet modern. The loft level is accessed with a ladder and features a futon that could sleep two people or I suppose it could be a fun spot for children to sleep/play. Half of the loft area is my storage area.

There is a modest bathroom with tub/shower, sink, toilet which is all you really need.

There is a small balcony at the entrance of the apartment and there will be seating there in the summer. It's really pleasant to sit out there as the house back onto an treed alley way and there is privacy.

In summary, this is a charming apartment that I really love and care for. The finishes are nice -- warm soft-wood floors, and all walls were painted recently. I keep the place clean. It is decorated minimally but with care.

I should warn that guests need to respect my neighbours who live on the main floor below this apartment. Sound travels very easily between the floors so you are expected to keep that in mind and respect the people below (no late loud activity for example, and no stomping around with your high heels on). Keep in mind that they can probably hear everything that you are doing as you will be able to hear them (they are relatively quiet and I've never had any troubling experiences with the sounds).

There is WIFI.

The neighbourhood is very vibrant -- many new restaurants, bars, coffee shops have opened around here recently. There are plenty of quality places to eat and drink at and I'd be happy to provide recommendations The house is in close proximity to some nice parks (Trinity Bellwoods and Dufferin Grove) and it is fairly convenient to access public transportation (5 min walk to College or Dundas streetcars, Ossington or Dufferin bus; 15 min walk to Ossington or Dufferin subway stations). There are plenty of shopping options within a close distance -- food, clothing, and other.

Some nos:
- no smoking/pets, please
- there is no air conditioning, laundry or parking

  • Scott was a wonderful host, as was his place! Felt very comfortable the entire stay. Scott was super easy to communicate with and I'm sure if there had been any issue at all, he'd be there immediately to resolve it. Scott's place had an amazing atmosphere. We had a few friends over for some wine and apps - needless to say it was a great place for entertaining. I would stay there again in a second! ...Just watch your step on the loft ladder ;)

  • Scotts house is bright, spacious and cozy all at once. I stayed here with two other adults and two children and we never felt cramped, we even hosted a small dinner party and invited a few friends over. The neighbourhood is great, has lots of restaurants, cafes and Portuguese grocery stores. Scott has an excellent kitchen and a book collection that spans from Hans Fallada to David Chang.

  • I rented Scott's apartment for 3 nights. There were three of us and plenty of space! The apartment was nice, clean and located in my preferred part of Toronto (within a walking distance to both Little Italy and West Queen West).
Scott provided clean towels and sheets and even told us we could use his condiments in the fridge!
Overall, we had a very nice stay at Scott's and I wouldn't hesitate renting from Scott again when I next visit Toronto.

  • Our family stayed in Scotts apartment for three nights. Little Portugal is a lovely neighbourhood and easy to reach with a streetcar. Scott is a very warm and thoughtful host and gave us a long list with restaurants & cafes in the area. The apartment was absolutely beautiful, cozy, clean and comfortable. There is even a little terrace where one could enjoy a glas of wine or eat breakfast. The bedroom was very nice and our son just loved to sleep on the loft. This was our first visit in Toronto and we stayed in diffrent areas nearly two weeks. We can warmly recommend little Portugal and Scotts apartment.

  • My wife and I, with a couple of friends have been in Scott apartment for 3 nights, and everything was perfect. The apartment is extremely nice, clean, recently renovated, and well maintained. The neighborhood is extremely alive, but quiet, with a lot of nice bars, pubs and restaurants. Public transportations are just a few steps from the house. Scott is a great guest, he called us a few times to make sure that everything was perfect (and it was), and he also gave us nice little suggestions on what to do and where to go. I would definitely recommend this place, and I would like to come back.

  • Scott is a thoughtfull, consciencous host. He made sure that our needs were met and that we were happy with our stay. His apartment is perfect for a stay in Toronto. It is located in one of the best neighborhoods in the city and is walking distance to so many great restaurants, bars, coffee shops and amenities. His place is located on a quiet, treelined street.

As for the apartment itself- it is clean and well cared for. It is stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Scott made sure to set out towels for us which was a really nice touch.

We stayed the week-end with another couple and it was cozy, but still enjoyable. The master bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed and the loft is a double futon mattress. We chose not to scale the ladder to the loft and brought the futon matress down to the living room instead. Scott was okay with this so long as we returned it at the end of our stay.

I would highly suggest Scott's place for a couple or close friends looking for a great apartment in the middle of one of Toronto's best neighborhoods.
