The Space

This is a spacious room in a unique, colorful Bernal Heights home with easy bus access and plenty of street parking!

The room opens onto a magical, park-like garden with many terraces where guests can enjoy views of San Francisco, watch the birds, listen to the relaxing sounds of the "WaterContraptions" or just enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine.

City, Golden Gate Bridge and skyline views.

The shared airy kitchen is fully equipped and available for use by guests.

Guest Access

Guests have access to their rooms, both bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, outdoor chill space and the many terraced garden.

Interaction with Guests

We live in the home and are happy to offer sightseeing suggestions and advice.

Interaction depends on the guests preference, but we greatly enjoy meeting and getting to know our guests!

The Neighborhood

Bernal Heights was voted America's #1 neighborhood! It sits just above the Mission District, our vibrant Latino neighborhood.

It has the best weather in San Francisco. It has the best views. It has a safe, friendly village feel to it.

A fifteen minute walk will take you to Cortland Street, a lovely shopping street complete with healthy grocery market, unique gift store, yoga, massage, library, bank and art galleries. There you will find a multitude of delicious eating establishments - Japanese, Nepalese, Peruvian, Italian, Mexican, California cuisine, excellent coffee shops and bakeries.

Right outside our door is Bernal Hill, a beautiful piece of parkland that affords a 360º view of San Francisco. Come here for sunrise, sunset or for star gazing!

Don't miss our Alemany Market which becomes a fabulous Farmers Market on Saturdays and a Flea Market on Sundays.

Getting around

The convenient MUNI 67 bus line stops right across the street and will take you to the 24th Street BART station in five minutes.

BART will take you downtown in minutes.

MUNI buses connect here to all points in the city including Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf, AT&T Park, all museums and city attractions.

STREET PARKING IS REALLY EASY AND FREE ON OUR STREET! Just be sure to read the street cleaning signs.

From SFO the least expensive option is a BART/MUNI ride which takes about 50 mins. A taxi/rental car will take about 20 mins.

  • Jeannie and Skate were very nice and we enjoyed staying in their unique, very colorful and interesting home. It was fun watching the fireworks over the stadium after a game with Jeannie. We would like to come again when we have more time to enjoy the neighborhood.

  • Staying at Jeannie and Skate's house really made our trip to San Francisco a special one. They were absolutely lovely hosts. The garden and the views were spectacular. Bernal Heights is the ideal neighborhood to stay when in the city. It's quiet and relaxing and just up the hill from the Mission. Definitely recommend staying here!

  • Jeannie and Skate are wonderful hosts. When we arrived, we immediately felt welcome. They are very patient and helpful. We learned much from them about San Francisco. In their house, we felt very comfortable. The view from the kitchen in the morning was fantastic. In the beautifully landscaped garden, you could always make small discoveries. Jeannie and Skate, thanks for all, it was a great pleasure to meet you! Mario and Damaris

  • Skate and Jeannie's Magical Garden retreat was a wonderful place to enjoy some downtime while in SF. The back yard has many different sitting areas, with heat lamps, fire pit, water sculptures and flowers to keep you relaxed while enjoying wine and the incredible views of the city. S and J were accommodating to my needs and I enjoyed our conversations. Bring something warm to spend as much time as possible in the yard.

  • We had a great time at Jeannie and Skate's beautiful San Francisco apartment. The room is spacious and clean, and has direct access on a bathroom, shared with another room. The garden is truly spectacular, and we really enjoyed drinking our coffee with a view over the entire city.
Jeannie and Skate are welcoming, caring and warm hosts, and we really enjoyed their company, as well as that of their adorable cats.

  • Skate and Jeannie room, view and garden is a $1,000 a night value for $130. Skate and Jeannie were amazing hosts and underscored for me the joy of shared travel.

When I traveled across in Alaska in my early 20s, we only stayed in local peoples homes, and since then I have not had a similar meaningful experience of getting to know and live with local people who are not related or part of my community.

To appreciate Skates garden, you realize that he put in thousands of man hours to build his magical masterpiece. No Hotel could give you the same experience.

Walk out of the house and climb Bernal Hill and enjoy the most spectacular 360 view of SF, meditate, pray, think out of the box, soak in the power and enjoy your stay.

Thank you Jeannie and Skate for your warm hospitality and caring for every detail to my stay comfortable.

Hi, We're Jeannie and Skate and we are looking forward to meeting you! We love to host guests in our home. We want to provide our guests with privacy while also offering them travel and local recommendations based upon our over 30 years as San Franciscans. We always enjoy meeting new people and making new friends. We like spending time in our garden and with our family, listening to live music, singing karaoke, eating good food, traveling to new and exciting destinations, snorkeling, camping, and sunshine. One of our favorite things to do is to travel simply and affordably by either camping or staying in homes so that we get to really experience the culture and people of the region we are visiting. For us Airbnb is a wonderful way to travel and meet new people while still staying at home!
