About this listing
Addiston Mains is a home away from home and although it is really handy for the airport, city and travel to other parts of Scotland it retains a relaxing and comfortable country feel with a modern style. The many repeat visitors is testimony to that.
This is a beautifully and newly decorated double room or family room. It has an en-suite bathroom with over head shower. There is also a wet room close by. This is a ground floor room with easy access and in an attractive and secure courtyard setting. There is a large tv sitting room with bar and kitchen facilities which is for the sole use of our guests. This also has a rural and peaceful outlook. Separate and private entry to rooms from courtyard.
The property has a large well equipped gym and studio which is also available to guests.
Addiston Mains was a farm and is now a residential property tastefully refurbished. It is is nearly 200 hundred years old and used to be part of the Dalmahoy Estate. One of the present Lord's sons used to live here.
Guests would benefit from having a car and road and rail links are excellent from here for going to many nearby local attractions. The train link into the city takes only 9 mins from Edinburgh Park and truly makes this an ideal place to stay for access to the city and surrounding areas.
The park and ride is 1 mile from Addiston Mains for easy bus travel.
The airport is only a few minutes drive away- really!
This is a peaceful place with loads to do very close by including the Edinburgh International Climbing Centre, Pentland Hills, Gyle Centre, Cinema, Golf, Hillend ski slope, Union Canal walks and so the list goes on.
There is plenty space for guests while staying at Addiston Mains. There is a gym which is fully equipped. There is a large garden and open aspect where guests are free to wander. There is also a separate private garden for the family. There is also a sitting area with table and chairs outside.
Interaction with Guests
I have found the interaction with our AIRBNB guests is unique. Some guests like to spend more time chatting than others. Some guests like to spend more time undisturbed. We find a flexible approach works best for both us and guests. There will be someone to meet guests on arrival and we live in a separate part of the house but still on site.
I love Addiston Mains for its semi rural position so close to the city. Our nearest neighbours are a few minutes walk away and yet we can be in the heart of the city in less than 15 mins.
Although we are very close to the airport we are on the opposite side from the flight path. We have never had a plane go overhead and hear no plane noise.
On a clear night the stars are very clear and there is a sense of peace and calm about the whole property.
Addiston Mains is best suited to transport by car. The city park and ride is 1 mile away with a good bus service direct to the city.
There is a bus that stops about 400 yards away. We are close enough to the airport for taxi or by prior arrangement for us to pick you up.
The train into the city takes about 6 mins and there are 2 stations about 5 mins drive away. Again we often drop guests off there.
The new tram service is also about 7-8 mins away and will be an additional option into the city.
This is part of a family home and guests are expected to behave in an appropriate manner around young people. Appropriate clothing at all times and reasonable levels of noise after 11pm and before 6am
Vicky and the flat were amazing! My friend and I were blown away at how comfortable and homey everything was - we felt like we hit the AirBnB jackpot! I most appreciated that we weren't treated impersonally like you'd experience as regular hotel guests, we were treated as friends. Vicky and her husband, John, were nice enough to show us around the area, take us grocery shopping the first night, and give us advice about things to do. Also, they checked in regularly to see how things were going. During the 2 week stay, we never wanted for anything; the sheets were changed, rooms cleaned a few times, trash removed, and breakfast supplies replenished (oatmeal, bread, yogurt, cereal, etc). Even if we did need something, I'm sure Vicky would have went out of her way to provide it.
The flat was well-kept, modern in appearance, and updated: cable TV with tons of movie channels, heated bathroom floors, hot showers, and comfy beds and couches. The area around the flat is beautiful and quiet. It does take some time to get into the city center (10-15 min walk to nearest bus stop, 30-40 min bus), but it was expected since there are many stops on the route. It's great for Heriot-Watt students/visitors; it was only a 7 min bike ride to the campus (bikes were graciously provided by Vicky!).
All in all, the stay far exceeded my expectations and my future AirBnB reservations will have a hard time living up the this one! The only gripe and caution is that the Internet connection was very, very poor (I tested it at around 0.35 Mbps), so if you need a strong connections, it might be worth reconsidering.
Thank you again Vicky, we can't wait to return!
Thank you for your feedback. I agree the Internet connection is infuriatingly slow. We have been dealing with BT for a number of YEARS to get it upgraded. Very slow progress. Maybe by the time you return we will have a greatly improved service - I really, really hope so.
Warm, welcoming, helpful, caring are the few words which can be used to describe vicky and her husband as a host. The place was very clean, beautiful and spacious. It was the best experience we ever had in all these years of travelling.
Magnificent! Vicky went out of her way to make our stay perfect. The home is spacious, decorated with updated everything! Absolutely great taste. Surrounded by well kept fields yet so close to the aitport and city. 10+.
Vicki is very welcoming and the accommodations are clean and roomy. The living area and kitchen are lovely. The location and room is exactly as described. It is a five minute drive from the airport, but in the country so you don't hear planes or traffic.
I would really recommend anyone to go and stay at this beautiful farm! Vicky and John are great and welcoming hosts. The appartment, my family and I stayed at, was beautifully decorated with much attention to detail. It is a spacious appartment, completely spotless and had everything we could wish for - a fridge, stocked with things for individual breakfast preperation included! We arrived late at Edinburgh airport, but John came to pick us up anyway. The accommodation is only a few minutes drive away from the airport and the city center can be reached easily by bus or taxi. If I ever get to visit Scotland again, this is where I'd like to stay.
Vicky was extremely easy going, welcoming and accommodating. It was perfect for us and ideal for the airport. Lovely to be surrounded by fields and trees with somewhere for the wee one to run about after hours in the car. It was an absolute pleasure staying there and we'd do so again. Highly recommended.
My familiy and I spent two nights at this lovely accommodation - one at the start and one at the end of our tour through scotland. Perfect place to stay - highly recommended! Not much to add to my previous review, just perfect.
