The Schoolhouse rooms offer independence and flexibility...comfortable bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin) with bathrooms ensuite and cooking facility in communal guest kitchen. Only 2 minutes walk to local shop and post office, hotel bar/restaurant and cosy pub serving great bar meals. 5 minutes walk to the famous Eilean Donan Castle. Parking and free internet for residents. Small gallery with original artworks and fresh coffee, teas and cakes served daily (closed sundays).
We really only saw Mary briefly at check in and check out but she was quite helpful in showing us around. The room was simple but comfortable and clean. We had what I assume was the accessible double room with wheelchair access washroom and showers which meant the shower was much larger than some of the cramped ones we had seen elsewhere in Scotland. The kitchen and the loaf of local bread was delightful - combined with the cheese we had bought earlier in the day, some soup and drinks at the local pub a short walk away we did quite well for dinner and breakfast the next morning! The photos do not do justice to the great view across the river! The bright summer evenings mean that you can still get great photos of Eilean Donan castle if you arrive after it has closed for the evening. I found the kitchen and our room a bit too warm for me at first, likely due to the beautiful weather outside but opening a window did the trick.
Well... The schoohouse house is a wonderfull place ! And Mary a really warm host.
The location is perfect to discover the Isle Of Skye while being closer than other part of Scotland as the Lochness. Of course The Eilan Donan Castle (who is really at 10minutes a walk) is also a thing to see !!!
If you had at this the marvelous Mary's cakes and the little garden in front of the loch... Yes, it's definitely a confortable place.
Mary was a gem. We turned up really late and she didn't bat an eyelid. The place is fab, cannot recommend it more. Thank you!
We have just spent five wonderful days in the stunningly beautiful, dramatic North West of Scotland, and Mary's delightful B&B in the old Schoolhouse was a great base for exploring the area. Our room was bright, warm, and well-equipped, with very cumfy beds. The communal kitchen too was well equipped, and Mary supplied us with lots of little treats from the bakery, besides fresh bread home-baked in the village. Mary herself was a warm and generous hostess who made us feel welcome in her lovely home.
Our stay in the Schoolhouse was lovely. It is a very short stroll from Eilean Donan castle, which was lovely lit up at night. There is also a nice wee pub on her street and the Schoolhouse is just across from some water. The rooms themselves were clean, comfortable, and spacious, and the common kitchen was well equipped and perfectly sufficient for cooking full meals. Mary was friendly and delightful, and the art gallery in the front of the building was fun to look around in. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Fantastic stay at the Schoolhouse. Rooms were nicely furnished, clean and quiet. The shared kitchen is great and allows you do do your own thing should you need an early breakfast etc. The cakes went down very well too!
Dornie is a lovely wee town next to the beautiful Eilean Donan Castle. We found it a good place to base ourselves for trips to local mainland villages like Glenelg, Plockton, Applecross, Sheildaig, but it's also very close to the Skye Bridge so is good for access to the island.
Mary is a friendly host, she welcomed us and was helpful with any questions we had. Thank you very much!

My partner and I had an incredible stay at The Schoolhouse and would recommend it to anyone planning to visit Eilean Donan castle or Isle of Skye. It has a great shop with unique items by local artists, so even if you don't end up staying, it's a great place to pop in. Mary and her colleagues at The Schoolhouse are incredibly kind and generous people. We were warmly welcomed and shown the space, which is beautiful and homey. The large, fully-equipped kitchen for guest use was stocked with the basics like bread, cereal, fruit, milk, butter, jam, etc. and Mary also left house-made pastries like carrot cake muffins in the kitchen twice daily - just one example of their generosity! Our bedroom was beautifully decorated and we truly felt at home there. The shower quality was excellent with great water pressure and endless amounts of hot water.
We stayed for 3 nights while visiting Isle of Skye and found that it was an easy drive on to the isle for the main sites we planned to visit (Old Man of Storr, Fairy Pools, Neist Point, Quiraing, etc.). We enjoyed coming back to Dornie each night to our little home away from home and were sad to leave. We especially enjoyed dinner at The Clachan, a pub just a few doors down from The Schoolhouse and seeing and walking up to the lit-up Eilean Donan castle after dark.
We had a lovely stay at the schoolhouse. Mary was a very nice host. The Schoolhouse also has a little gallery with great paintings and a coffee shop. There is a lovely Loch right on the other site of the street and the Eilean Donan castle is very close. Thanks for the nice stay.
Très bon séjour chez Mary. Chambre confortable et propre. Grande salle de bain. Cuisine partagée très agréable. Mary nous fournissait du très bon pain et des gâteaux tous les jours.
