The Space

Need a quiet place to relax and recharge, while staying close to the bustle of downtown? My friends, THIS IS THE PLACE. You'll find a beautifully furnished, clean and well-equipped apartment with en suite washer and dryer, full kitchen, and a lovely front patio and backyard garden. We're eco-friendly, organic, vegan-friendly, walking distance from the city's light rail and regional train lines, as well as some of the best shopping, night life, architecture, and neighborhood feel.

*** 31 Day Minimum Stay ***

The apartment features a business center with laptop computer, printer, copier, scanner, paper, wireless internet, and electronic safe for storing valuables. You'll have your own laundry room, a fully equipped kitchen (stove, dishwasher, brand new Fisher Paykel refrigerator, coffee maker, French press, coffee grinder, microwave ...), spacious bath with organic bath robes and towels, dining bar area, adorable writing desk and bookshelves.

The apartment has a land line phone with UNLIMITED long distance calling to the U.S. and Canada; answering machine included. The TV is a Samsung flat screen with digital antenna TV channels and a nice DVD library. (We don't provide cable TV service.)

According to our guests, the Queen Size Bed is "oops, slept 'til noon comfortable," and the European-style fold-out sofa is stylish and comfy, too. Ask about our crib, playpen, high chair, baby bath tub, toys, children's books and kids' DVDs, which are available upon request.

Ideal for business travelers, grandparents, and couples with or without kids.

We include maid service about every 2 weeks, or twice per month. So if you stay for 1 month, the rate includes the maid service before your arrival, as well as half-way through your stay.

The apartment has been thoughtfully furnished with the big things, as well as the little things you might need ... hair dryer, organic lotion, all natural shampoos & soaps, eco-friendly laundry detergent, dish soap and dishwasher detergent, umbrellas, iron, ironing board, biodegradable zip-lock bags ... need I go on? :) Jeff and Rachel have designed the apartment with your comfort in mind, along with the health of our Mother Earth. Just when we think the apartment has everything, we think of new upgrades. So the apartment keeps getting better all the time.

We're west of Guerrero so we're in Noe Valley, but we're at the intersection of three fantastic neighborhoods ... the Mission, Bernal Heights, and Noe Valley. Glen Park village is a little further away (about 1 mile), but still walkable! We live in a flat part of town, which makes it easy to walk to Dolores Park and on to the Castro or all the way to 16th and Valencia, stopping in at the vintage clothing shops, book stores, and record stores along the way. We also love hiking to the top of Bernal Heights, Billy Goat Hill, or Twin Peaks.

Grocery Stores: Yes, you can walk to pick up your groceries. The 24-Hour Safeway on Mission St is a 5 minute-walk away, and the Whole Foods on 24th St is a 15-minute walk. The Valencia Market and 26th & Guerrero Market are both on the way home from the BART station. You can easily bike or take a bus to Rainbow Grocery.

It's an easy (very flat) walk from our apartment to BART or the J-Church to get downtown for cable cars, museums, Chinatown, Union Square, and everything our fair city is known for. At SF Vacation Hut, you'll receive a warm reception with flowers, chocolate and wine or a favorite beverage, plus transit and bike maps, guide books & more.

PRICING
$100 per night, for stays of 31 nights or more.
Initial Cleaning Fee and Linen Set-Up included!
Maid service included (twice per month) .

Airbnb charges a "service fee" of 6% to 12% on top of everything (it's kind of like a Ticketmaster service fee), and it's something we have no control over at all. I am simply making you aware of that now, so you won't be surprised when you see your final invoice, upon check-out.

We do have a driveway parking space that can be made available for an extra charge, depending on the size of the car, etc. Your car would preferably be under 190 inches but definitely no more than 200 inches. There is very good street parking if you arrive home prior to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Guest Access

The guest will be renting the 1st floor legal apartment in a 2-unit building. The fabulous backyard and front patio are shared with your hosts, who live in the apartment upstairs.

Interaction with Guests

There is a key code for entry, so you don't need to see us for checking in and checking out. Typically we stop by once at the beginning of your stay, just to say hello. The apartments are completely separate, so we rarely bump into our guests at all. However, if you need anything, we are right upstairs.

The Neighborhood

We live on a lovely street with front and backyard gardens, and we're walking distance to Dolores Park and Bernal Heights Park. Fun, eclectic shops, restaurants, grocery stores and farmers' markets, on Mission Street, Valencia Street, and 24th Street, are an easy (and very flat) stroll away.

Getting around

The 24th St Mission BART station, with easy access to SFO airport and the East Bay, is less than a 15-minute, very flat walk from the apartment. The J-Church Muni streetcar (light rail) line is only a 5-minute walk away. Several bus lines, such as the Van Ness and Mission buses to Fisherman's Wharf, are only a 5-minute walk away. If you need parking, you can use our driveway spot as a last-minute resort; if you'll be parking more than 5 days per month, we will buy the street parking permit for you (just pay us cash when you arrive).

Other Things to Note

Please don't use Instant Book. Airbnb is giving priority to listings with Instant Book, which is why we have allowed it, with an artificially inflated price. If you use Instant Book, you'll be needlessly paying 20% more. Airbnb is about trust and community. To stay at our place for the real price, you need to engage with us in a dialog on Airbnb. Tell us about yourself and why you want to come stay at our apartment. You'll also need to enable the "Call this Guest" feature so we can interview you and make sure that our apartment matches your expectations.

Printer-copier-scanner is included in the apartment, as well as a laptop and modem / router for either wireless or ethernet connection to the internet. We include maid service twice per month. Typically we come down to the apartment to supervise the maid and also we refill the supplies like dish / laundry soap, tissues, Brita faucet water filter, etc. But if you prefer to be there for the maid yourself (and not have us come in), that's fine, too. As long as the apartment receives its bi-monthly cleaning, that's fine with us.

  • My wife and I had a very comfortable one-month stay at the Noe Valley Eco-Escape and highly recommend it to anyone who needs a temporary accommodation in San Francisco.

The studio is stocked with everything you could possibly need. Jeff and Rachel have thought through each and every detail – from the kitchen that is equipped with all utensils you may think of, and the bathroom full of all kinds of cosmetics, to the printer/scanner and plenty of office supplies that might come in handy while abroad. Even if you need anything not yet provided, which I doubt, you can always ask Rachel and Jeff who are super nice, friendly and helpful.

The apartment is in one of the nicest and safest neighborhoods in San Francisco – Noe Valley, within a walking distance to the restaurants and bars on 24th Street and those on Mission Street. Even if you decide to stay inside, though, you can spend some enjoyable time reading one of the many books that Rachel and Jeff have provided, watching a movie from the nice collection of DVDs available or enjoying the sun in the backyard.

As far as transportation is concerned, the apartment is an excellent option for those who need a quick access to the 280 highway. Just keep in mind that street parking gets difficult in the evening (although not impossible) and you should always have a look at the street cleaning schedules before parking to avoid getting a ticket. If you are using public transportation, you have several options such as the J-line, buses on Mission Street and even BART. Rachel and Jeff will also help you manage your transit payments more easily with a Clippers card purchased beforehand!

Simply put, the place is ideal for one or two people looking to spend some time in San Francisco in a clean, comfy and nicely furnished studio with all kinds of amenities in a nice and safe neighborhood with good transportation options.

  • Rachel and Jeff's place was perfect for our 2 month stay in SF! The neighborhood is lovely and quiet, and the apartment is fully stocked with everything you could need. They really think of every comfort, and are readily available to their guests if anything comes up. The studio is surprisingly large and spacious, and had more than enough room for the two of us to be comfortable. The MUNI (public transport) is only a 5 minute walk away, and will take you anywhere you need to go in about 20 minutes.
We had a wonderful stay, and highly recommend this apartment! We would definitely stay again in the future.

  • We lived in Rachel's place for one month and it was a really enjoyable time. She is a very calm, polite and amiable person that's really interested in making your stay as comfortable, safe and fruitful as possible. It was a genuine pleasure to meet her.

The place isn't exactly close to Downtown, but it has good and convenient public transportation service. We had to go to Downtown everyday in the morning and it always took around 30 minutes. You have two options for that: a 15-minute walk to the 24th Street BART station with an additional 15-minute ride or a 5-minute walk to Church Street J Line Muni stop and an addional 25-minute ride. This commute was needed, but we never arrived late.

The location has some advantages: the street where the apartment is located is really quiet. There are good nearby grocery stores and restaurants. If you are looking to stay in a soul-less, aseptic, fakey touristic area, look elsewhere. But if you like history, a colorful neighborhood and a genuine feel, this may be the place for you.

The apartment had everything we could ask for. Do you like to cook? No problem, there is a large assortment of pans, pots, cutlery and plates available. Fridge, dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave, toaster... You like coffee? There's not only a coffee maker, but a coffee bean grinder too! Did I mention the herbs and spices? Pepper, oregano, basil, thyme, ginger, cinnamon, garlic, curry and a lot more I can't remember right now.

The bathroom is good, they have washing machine and dryer, a very comfortable bed, two closets, a TV with DVD... There's a really good selection of movies, many filmed in San Francisco.

There's even a nice back garden, with tables and chairs. A nice place to relax or have your breakfast. We regret not having much time to enjoy it.

While not necessary, it's always better to be in a nicely decorated place. And this is the case here: they made good use of the available space and used furniture and fixtures that mix really well.

Last but not the least, there are a lot of guides, maps and tips that will help make your stay as good as possible.

We really recommend this place. Thank you Rachel!

  • We stayed in the eco-escape for 3 weeks in March,2012. It is small, but adequate for 2 people. The very best part was that the hosts provide you with many extras. When we arrived there was a bottle of wine & 4 bottles of beer. Rachel had called us ahead to as whether we prefered wine/beer and coffee/tea. Fresh flowers were on the counter, as was coffee, tea and snacks.Juice and milk were in the frige. Laundry facilities were there along with a computer and a printer. My wife is handicapped and they made every attempt, including profiding a bath bench, hand holds, etc., to accomodate her. The bed was great, even if it was in the middle of the living room. It is a very nice neighborhood and there are good restaurants within walking distance. We would recommend it highly for one or two people.

About
Hi! I'm Rachel. I'm a civil engineer. I used to do transportation analysis for projects in the California wine country; now I'm a bridge inspector on the SF Bay Area's toll bridges. We inspect our bridges via rope access / rappelling, boats, simple walking, climbing, scrambling, and what I would call spelunking (instead of descending into caves, we go deep inside steel towers or concrete structures). I live part-time in San Francisco, CA, and part time in San Antonio, TX. I have Airbnb vacation rentals in both cities. When I travel, I prefer to "live like a local" and stay in a bona fide neighborhood, in a well-cared for home with history and personality, rather than in a faceless corporate hotel. As an Airbnb host, I bring that enthusiasm toward creating a wonderful space for my guests ... on the outside: in a fab neighborhood, convenient to public transit, bike lanes, walkable to some charming town center ... and on the inside: aesthetically pleasing, clean, modern, comfortable and practical in every way. About me personally ... I'm into dancing, music, reading, knitting, art, interior design, vegan food, nutrition, rock climbing, languages, hiking and camping, riding bikes, stretching, and running outdoors (not on a treadmill). I apologize, but I don't watch TV or read any magazines or newspapers. I learn about "what's happening out there" via the radio (NPR), the books I read, the people I talk to, and of course: the internet. :)
