A bohemian walking paradise in a charming beachfront community full of eclectic charm. 10 minutes to downtown on major bus routes, convenient to all freeways in a safe neighborhood just two blocks from the hustle of the main shopping area.
Assigned parking with shared yards great for grilling and relaxing. Hammock, vintage preway fireplace, multiple seating areas, and charming decor. Outdoor shower perfect for cooling off after a day at the beach.
Full kitchen with all utensils, all beach towels, linens included. Feel free to borrow one of our bikes, surfboards and we are happy to arrange anything else to make your trip more memorable.

Please note that like much of greater downtown area, we are on flight path. Although it is convenient to have our airport downtown, it makes a lot of san diegos urban areas on the flight path and some people may notice it, some people may not.
Visit our neighborhood park, Robb Field- a recreation complex with multiple tennis, basketball and handball court. It also has a fitness gym, lighted softball and multi-purpose fields, playground area for kids, and acres of wide open grass with picnic tables and shade trees.
Just one mile from the Ocean Beach pier, the second longest pier in California. It’s an amazing, panoramic location from which to drop a fishing line (no license needed), take a romantic stroll, or grab a burger and a beer at the OB Pier Café.
Be sure to visit the Tide pools at sunset cliffs , one of the most beautiful locations in the world, named after its amazing sunsets. Take a leisurely stroll down to sea level and explore the magic and the mystery of the tide pools at low tide.

Listing was accurate, looks just like the pictures, great backyard as shown. Flexible hosts (we only talked via text).
Downside - Too many ants. Neighborhood (as I now realized) is kind of... shady for lack of a better way to put it. Older hippy crowd and not much do to in the neighborhood, as it's just a small strip of a few restaurants and antique shops. If I did it again, we'd stay in Little Italy, Gaslamp, or La Jolla.
Helene was very responsive, the neighborhood has many cool places and our experience was great. However, there are many noisy airplanes (not in the night, but they can flight in late evening&in the morning), so be careful. Also in case you have phobia note that there are ants in the apartment.
The apartment was perfect! We had everything we needed just a few blocks from the beach and all the cool bars in ocean beach
Our stay at Helene's home was so wonderful. The space was very clean and much more like a professional rental property than other Airbnb rentals I have seen (not closets and drawers filled with people's personal items). Helene was so kind and available at all times for anything we needed. She helped us find good restaurants and was very accommodating when we needed to add an extra guest last minute. It was in a great location that was walking distance from great shops and restaurants and the beach. Also it had a great indoor and outdoor space to enjoy. I would highly recommend this location and I hope one day to return.
My experience at this apartment was less than stellar. To start with, we never met our host. With the apartment, though the location was good, the place was a bit shabby, disorganized and not as clean as I would have liked. The mattresses in the room with the twin beds definitely need replacing and the queen sized bed's mattress is pretty soft. The cable was so basic that even CNN wasn't part of the package. Also, the WiFi signal was so weak in the apartment (not sure where the router is located) that I ended up using my 3G service on my iPad as it was much faster. The neighborhood is on a pretty serious flight pattern for San Diego's airport, so once the planes get going early in the morning, they are flying low overhead all day and evening. I have had serious reservations about leaving such negative feedback, but a friend who I discussed it with made me realize that is the point of feedback on this site.
We just stayed there for 4 nights, and it was lovely. The apartment is very beachy, filled with light, and the location cannot be beat. The neighborhood is safe and we walked everywhere. The actual apartment was a bit old, but just fine for what we needed. The outside area is great, but the chairs at the table are a bit rickety. The on site manager, Kristin, was super nice, and we would absolutely use them again!
Communication was great with Helene. The onsite host was very helpful as well. This is a prime location for all that Ocean Beach has to offer.

About the Host, Helene
HI! I am a photographer and my husband is a musician and scientist. Our house is our sanctuary and we love to share it with others for their own little slice of paradise while on vacation or staycation. The Juniper Zen Palace is a 2 bedroom house and serves as our primary residence, although we vacate when the entire home is rented. We have an extra detached guest suite with its own bathroom, fridge, and microwave that is available as well and sleeps 2, or is available with the entire house for an additional charge. Our pride and joy is our Mobile Love Den, a 1958 Dalton canned ham that is fully restored and has gotten rave reviews so be sure to check that out if that sort of thing floats your boat!
We will also rent out our inside guest bedroom by itself sometimes, so email if you are just looking for one room. We have a small dog, June Bug, who is a Boston Terrier. She stays at her friend's house when the entire home is rented. If you intend to rent the suite or spare room, please be warned that she may come in for a morning snuggle and may jump on your luggage when you first arrive.
Our home is a charming early 20th century craftsman that has been nicely restored and is designed in our own eclectic style. If you rent the whole house, you'll have shelves full of LP records, cd's, and great books to keep you company. Also at your disposal are fresh fruit and veggies from the garden, backyard bbq, fire pit, cabana and banquet table with night lights, hammock under the tall bamboo and banana trees, and many more simple but fun delights. We truly do love hosting people and have had great guests from all over the world gracing the pages of our guest book.
