The spectacular view overlooking the ocean is what clinched this booking for us. The house had plenty of space for our group of 6 adults and is located in the nicer, quiet area on the east side of the island. Pool was well maintained and we used it often. The accommodations were sparse, clean and adequate and stocked with most everything we needed. The location is in a seemingly safe spot on the island, and the short 10-15 minute drive to downtown Nassau and Paradise Island is filled with scenic views. Definitely would recommend a car to make trips into town easier. There aren't any restaurants close by and the grocery store is at least a 15 minute walk. It's a drive to the nicer beaches and town and cab rides are pricey (approximately $70 round trip into town).
Rhonda, the next-door, on-site host, was very welcoming and available. We arrived at different times and she made herself available to meet each of us. She scheduled a taxi (Mr. Darling) to pick us up at the airport. She also gave us a ride to the grocery store and lent us hairdryers when we were rushing to prepare for a wedding.
The local beach, Yamacraw beach is a couple of minutes walk but unfortunately not well maintained.
Highly recommended if you want to unwind in the Bahamas while avoiding the overly touristy areas.
The spectacular view overlooking the ocean is what makes this townhouse so inviting. Dining on the deck with this view and a warm breeze was fabulous. The accommodations were sparse and somewhat outdated but adequate. The location is in a seemingly safe spot on the island, and the short 10-15 minute drive to downtown Nassau and Paradise Island is filled with scenic views.
This was a little bit of a mixed bag:
Rhonda, the next-door, on-site host, was very welcoming and incredibly available. She scheduled a taxi (Mr. Darling) to pick us up at the airport (who didn't arrive on time) but, he was very prompt and responsible for the rest of the week. Rhonda was very generous-- she even gave us a few rides to the grocery store (which is a hike!) to get drinking water. We were very thankful especially because we had to purchase all our drinking water and transport it!!
The Yamacraw beach (closest) is pretty gross at high tide (broken glass, rusty cans, plastic bags, old broken flip-flops). Check it out at low tide for great sand (but wear water shoes because there's still glass!).
The power went out for several days of our stay and there was no generator available. We were never contacted by the owner or the airbnb leaser about this at all. We were very unaware (naively?) that this was so common.
For transportation needs, it's important to know that each ride into town is approximately $70 roundtrip by taxi.
thank you for your review. I was unaware that you wanted me to contact you during your stay. My apologies. Rhonda, our property manager, takes care of the guests once on property. I am glad to hear that you were happy with Rhonda's service.
In ref to the drinking water we do supply 5 gallon water bottles. I will ask why there was no drinking water in the house. My guess, knowing the Bahamian companies, that the water truck did not deliver.
Beach: the beach is being taken care of by Government. I will go down there myself to take a picture and send it to the appropriate constituency. They normally have this little beach clean.
Power: There were several power outages caused by the new coming Mega Resort Bahamar. The whole island did not have power, not only you guys. Nobody did. We were unprepared and yes, a flash light and candles is a must. Thank you for letting me know!
I am sorry for your expense having to buy water, candles and a flashlight. My sincerest apologies.
Good bargain for the money. Rent a car because it's a drive to the nicer beaches and town. Martina was very prompt to reply to any questions!
We had a great time staying at this Oceanfront Townhome. Rhonda was an amazing host. She and her husband were there to greet us and make sure we were all settled. They gave us advice and recommendations on what to do and even took us out on their boat! The house was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. You are so close to beautiful water. I would recommend renting a car though, there aren't any restaurants close by and the grocery store is at least a 15 minute walk. Can't wait to go back!
We stayed here for 4 nights in February 2015. It was a great relaxing stay. Rhonda, the property manager, was very accomodating to us. We were 3 adults and 1 child. She provided a crib for the child. The house had plenty of space and gorgeous views of the water. The house is stocked with all necessities. Rhonda was always available if we had any questions or issues. We would highly recommend this place if you want to stay outside of downtown in a quiet beach house.
Martina's Townhouse is a great location on the island away from the touristy/cruise ship areas. Definitely would recommend a car to make trips into town (10-15 mins) easier. The house was nice, amazing view, supermarket was nearby, so easy to pick up groceries and cook (and cheaper than eating out for every meal). Rhonda (the caretaker) was very available and super-accommodating, even inviting us out on their small boat for a few snorkeling/sightseeing excursions. There were a couple of minor issues, including a dishwasher that wasn't properly set and the retractable door on the back didn't go up completely, but was addressed during the our stay by the hosts. They had a very nice on-site maintenance person so anything should be handled pretty quickly. Pool was beautiful (though we didn't really take advantage). House was clean and stocked with most everything you needed to make meals and we didn't run out anything.
Overall a good experience. Would come back.
Hi Clay and Verena,
I am glad to hear that you had a great time! Lucky you, being taken out in the little boat!
Thank you for your suggestions on improvement. We are right on it.
Hope to see you again in the future. New York is not too far for a weekend escape into the sun.
Thank you for staying with us.
All the best,
Martina and Rhonda
