Guest access
Parking and medieval villages don't always go hand in hand, it's part of their charm. The best way to make it to our space is to get to the main piazza in the center of Colledimezzo and park there.

There is ample free parking available- it is first come, first serve
The house is a short 3 minute walk downhill from the piazza. The route to our door from the piazza is a charming stroll down a medieval path that is equipped with stairs, ramps and handrails for assistance.

Please view photos for a clear view of the path.

----------------------------------------
The house can be accessed independently. There is a lockbox on terrace with a key inside, guests can check themselves in.

Other things to note
THE HOUSE:
- Our stairs are original to the home and do not have a railing on the bottom floor ( as pictured), they may not be suitable for some people and very young children.
- As is traditional in this part of Italy, the house does not have central air conditioning. There are screens in every window, and fans provided in every room. To cool down, please open windows to create a cross breeze and use fans provided.
- At this moment, the fireplace is not functional. Please do not attempt to use to start a fire.

-Most residents of the village do not speak English- learning a few key phrases in Italian can be helpful. Also helpful- translation apps.

COLLEDIMEZZO

Colledimezzo is a charming, albeit small, medieval village. You can find a grocery store, a bar, a bank, a food truck, a hardware store, a post office, and a pharmacy on it's main street: Via Roma. For everything else, you'll have to drive.

The qualities that make it exceptional & quaint, are the same that remind us that it is small. Please be prepared to drive and explore the region for your extra needs.

It has a bar- Bar For You (located on the main piazza) that is wonderful for a daily cappuccino or a glass of vino, but for more food options, you'll have to drive.

Or you can grab small groceries at our nearby village market, Olivieri Market or do a bigger shopping at the Coal supermarket, 10 mins away- and cook a meal at home.

There are several exceptional restaurants within a 5 min drive from the village.

ABRUZZO

The Abruzzo region of Italy is known as the "untouched gem of Italy". It is a lesser-known and "undiscovered" area unlike the heavily traveled more touristy areas of Italy such as Tuscany and Rome. It's touted as Italy's "green region" (national parks and nature reserves cover much of it). But Abruzzo is so much more than that. It contains lakes, the Adriatic coastline, national parks, imposing mountain ranges, UNESCO heritage sites, some of the most beautiful medieval towns in the country, and an eclectic and diverse cuisine that changes from the beach to the mountains.

**From Casa Querencia: Beaches are 30 mins away, Ski Resorts are 45 mins away, there are amazing medieval villages to explore within 15 mins away, and National reserves for hiking are only 35 mins away.

Neighborhood highlights

Colledimezzo is a 12th century medieval town and commune in the province of Chieti. It sits on a rocky outcrop offering striking views of the Val di Sangro, Lake Bomba, and The Majella Mountains. Colledimezzo literally means ‘Hill in between’, in fact the village is located on a hilltop between two higher mounts.

The houses in the village are connected by a network of ancient streets, some not accessible by car. Winding passages, ancient stairs, rustic facades...

Its the picture of medieval charm.

The center of town is the piazza, which houses a bank, church, a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy and the most visited building in Colledimezzo: The Bar. If you sit in the piazza for any amount of time, you'll be welcomed by a number of friendly villagers. The town is small, but it makes up for it's size with a tremendous amount of kindness, hospitality and Italian camaraderie.

My work: Teacher, traveler
Speaks English, Italian, and Spanish
Hi! I’m Joan (or Josie, as my friends call me). I am a wife and mother of 2 beautiful children. I stay at home with my kids and we actively homeschool, while my husband, Aaron, owns a Construction Business. We have lived in Florida for about 7 years now and love it, but travel is super important to us. I actually run a travel blog and Youtube channel on the side. We come from a multicultural background and love to learn about new people, places, and cultures as often as possible! Food is a passion for us. Can't think of anything better than being in a great place, surrounded by people we love, all while eating something incredible! :) We love music, museums and history. We are a bit nerdy in that way. When we travel, art museums and historical sights are at the very top of our to-do lists. Family is the most important thing in world to us and we truly believe in making the most of the time we have together on this earth! Traveling to new places and sharing new experiences is something we do to grow as individuals but also as a family.:) -------------- Aaron and I actually met in Italy in 2004 on a Summer trip touring the country. We fell in love with the place, the people, the culture, the food, and the language while we were there... and well, with each other too. :) It's been 18 years and 2 kids later and we are still soo enamored with Italy. Our goal to own a home in "Bella Italia" was made a reality this year and we couldn't be happier to share it with you! We hope you fall in love with Italia, just like we did! -Josie
