Our house is an old Portland Style home located in Northeast Portland in the quiet tree-lined Irvington neighborhood. The house is very close to downtown Portland as well as other interesting areas such as the Mississippi and Alberta Art Districts. We are a short walk away from lovely parks, restaurants, coffee shops, and other intriguing Portland destinations.
We are offering a very comfortable queen bed in a large bedroom. The bedroom is located on the second floor and has a full bath across the hall. In addition, we have an outside bath house that includes a large sauna, clawfoot tub, and shower. We share common areas of the house including: kitchen, washer/dryer, living room with TV, dining room, and backyard. We heat the downstairs of our home with a wood stove so it is always warm and cozy. The bedroom is furnished with an electric heater. The kitchen is the heart and soul of our home and nourishes us in more ways than one. Often, you will enjoy fresh squeezed juice and/or fabulously fragrant espresso beverages as they are a daily morning ritual. We usually have homemade granola available for you with fresh fruit and yogurt.
We are blocks away from public transportation, both bus and MAX lines, and we also have a couple of bicycles available for our guests interested in exploring the city by bike.
We do offer a discount to all educators. The daily rate for those working in the education field is: $70.00.
For those of you that are looking for a little more of an "inside experience" during your stay here in Portland, we will provide a delicious family supper for you at a very reasonable price. We charge $30.00 per person and this price includes a glass of wine.
While Portland boasts some amazing restaurants, Santha has achieved legendary status in our community for the beautiful meals that she prepares on a nightly basis. Formerly a professional chef, she will craft a meal that will please and excite no matter what dietary restrictions you may have. Fresh, local, and seasonal are our guiding food preparation principles.
If you are interested in exploring the world of wine during your dinner, then we can also offer you a lovely wine list as Michael is our resident local wine merchant/steward.
Please inquire about dates if interested in the "supper option" during your stay.
No Smoking In The House. No Pets. No Guns. Our only expectation is for "reasonable and considerate" behavior from our guests while they are staying in our home.
Theirs is an exceptionally pleasant place to stay. Michael and Santha made me feel comfortable right off the bat and then more so as my time there went on. Gracious, interesting, easy going hosts in a lovely home. What could be better? They are very knowledgeable about dining opportunities in Portland and gave me some good direction that way. If a meal prepared at home by Santha can be arranged in your visit there, I strongly recommend availing yourself of that opportunity.
The room was great, very clean, spacious and attractive. Windows on two walls, one at the head of the bed, allowed a draft of fresh air during the day. I thought at first the bed was going to be too soft for me to be comfortable but I ended up sinking in comfortably and slept very well. The sauna and outdoor shower were an unusual and very well done addition which significantly enhanced my stay. The kitchen area is particularly well evolved for cooking and conversing for 2 to 4 or 5 folks.
All in all, 11 out of 10. Really very, surprisingly nice.
Staying with Michael and Santha was fantastic. Michael started by giving us a tour and showed us how to use the sauna and outdoor shower. We took advantage of this every day! For those that might be shy, you also have access to an indoor shower. The whole house was super clean and felt inviting. Santha and Michael gave us lots of tips on how to "do portland" and they were spot on! This property is located next to some fabulous restaurants and is accessible by many options of busses, streetcar or rail. Aaron and I wanted to take advantage of their offer to cook us a meal and we were not disappointed. Santha is a super star cook and Michael paired every course with a delicious wine. It was also nice to spend some time with our hosts. Highly recommend this place!
We really enjoyed our stay in Portland. Michael's recommendations were great and we felt comfortable during our stay. We were able to use the quiet 2nd floor shared bathroom easily during our stay. We were able to shower and dry off in their fantastic outside sauna, and leave our bikes safely locked in their garage. They were friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great stay.
I had a great first Airbnb experience at Michael and Santha's house! I was a little nervous since it was my first experience, but Michael ensured that I had a comfortable stay (Santha was out of town during the majority of my stay, but I did have the pleasure of meeting her briefly).
Michael gave me good suggestions for local places to check out, and he had fresh-squeezed orange juice for me every morning, which was a nice treat. Also, the outdoor shower and sauna are amazing! I recommend using them if you're comfortable with it. What a nice little treat. :)
Their house is also awesome; it's a very pretty, quintessential Portland home. Their pug - Juno - is a sweet little dog, and I enjoyed petting her and playing with her briefly while I was there.
Overall, I'd highly recommend staying with Santha and Michael. They have a lovely home, and it's located in a nice little neighborhood within walking distance from a cool coffee shop, park, and secondhand store. I'm very glad that my first Airbnb experience went so well, and I hope that my future Airbnb stays go just as well!
Michael and Santha were very welcoming and accommodating throughout their communications. At the last minute I was unable to stay, and they were gracious and understanding.
Sadly, Santha and Michael were out of town the weekend we were there, but their sweet and very knowledgeable son, Noah, was there. He was a great host, letting us know about his favorite restaurants and showing us how to use the bikes. We spent a good amount of our saturday evening in the sauna and also took advantage of their glorious outdoor shower.
The bed was very comfortable, perfect lighting. Felt like we were in a cozy treehouse.

We are a family of three: Michael is an independent business person and local wine merchant. He loves bike riding, live music, and Everything New Orleans. Santha is a high school educator and gourmet chef. She loves to run on an almost daily basis, knit, cook, and is a voracious reader. Our son is a bright and very socially adept 11th grader. He enjoys playing sports and procrastinating on his homework assignments. We are also the proud owners of a Pug named Juno. She is very sweet, adorable, and loving.
All of us enjoy life inside this bubble that we call Portland! We are outdoor people with busy social lives. We exercise, eat well, and enjoy going out to a show or the movies on occasion. Much of our home life revolves around our lovely kitchen where Santha's culinary skills have become legendary in our community! Most of the food that we eat is locally sourced and we also like to enjoy a nice bottle of wine and lively conversation with dinner.
