The Space

Our house is an old Portland Style home located in Northeast Portland in the quiet tree-lined Irvington neighborhood. The house is very close to downtown Portland as well as other interesting areas such as the Mississippi and Alberta Art Districts. We are a short walk away from lovely parks, restaurants, coffee shops, and other intriguing Portland destinations.

We are offering a very comfortable queen bed in a large bedroom. The bedroom is located on the second floor and has a full bath across the hall. In addition, we have an outside bath house that includes a large sauna, clawfoot tub, and shower. We share common areas of the house including: kitchen, washer/dryer, living room with TV, dining room, and backyard. We heat the downstairs of our home with a wood stove so it is always warm and cozy. The bedroom is furnished with an electric heater. The kitchen is the heart and soul of our home and nourishes us in more ways than one. Often, you will enjoy fresh squeezed juice and/or fabulously fragrant espresso beverages as they are a daily morning ritual. We usually have homemade granola available for you with fresh fruit and yogurt.

We are blocks away from public transportation, both bus and MAX lines, and we also have a couple of bicycles available for our guests interested in exploring the city by bike.

We do offer a discount to all educators. The daily rate for those working in the education field is: $70.00.

For those of you that are looking for a little more of an "inside experience" during your stay here in Portland, we will provide a delicious family supper for you at a very reasonable price. We charge $30.00 per person and this price includes a glass of wine.

While Portland boasts some amazing restaurants, Santha has achieved legendary status in our community for the beautiful meals that she prepares on a nightly basis. Formerly a professional chef, she will craft a meal that will please and excite no matter what dietary restrictions you may have. Fresh, local, and seasonal are our guiding food preparation principles.

If you are interested in exploring the world of wine during your dinner, then we can also offer you a lovely wine list as Michael is our resident local wine merchant/steward.

Please inquire about dates if interested in the "supper option" during your stay.

  • Santha and Michael were extremely hospitable hosts and have a beautiful place in a great area of Portland. They were always kind and accommodating and the easy access to a bike (and a sauna) were really nice features. The easy access to the light rail system was also very nice.

I definitely enjoyed my stay with them and would recommend this beautiful Portland house to anyone!

  • My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful stay with Santha & Michael in their beautiful home and neighborhood. As this was our first trip to Portland, Santha & Michael went above and beyond to welcome us to the city, even offering rides, bikes, and helpful recommendations. I might add that the guest bed was especially comfy, and we also enjoyed their relaxing outdoor bathhouse & sauna. Santha & Michael were excellent hosts, and the homey touches of lattes & homemade granola in the morning speak to their inviting and hospitable nature. We would certainly think of Santha & Michael for our next visit!

  • Santha and Michael were wonderful, warm hosts, and the room was perfect. Juno the pug is adorable as well! And the bed: as other guests have mentioned, it is super comfortable. My husband and I had the best sleeps there! The location is excellent for exploring NE Portland - go for walks around the streets, the houses and gardens are gorgeous. For coffee: Cafe 26 on Knott and 7th is within walking distance and has great coffee. Thanks to Michael for recommending it!

Thanks for making our stay in Portland easy and memorable. :)

  • We had not the chance to meet Santha and Michael. But they asked a friend to welcome us. Beautiful home, well located, especially for a city tour by bike. And after a perfect day, the sauna was really enjoyable...:-) thx for everything

  • Santha and Michael were such a pleasure to stay with for four nights. They made us feel very welcome and at home with fresh towels and robes for the sauna. The bed was very comfortable and they even offered us fresh espresso in the mornings. We added on the dinner one night and it was absolutely amazing because Santha used to be a chef. They also let us use their bikes and locks when we rode around town and offered the best local advice on things to do and places to eat. We would definitely stay with them again if we visit Portland another time! Highly recommended :)

We are a family of three: Michael is an independent business person and local wine merchant. He loves bike riding, live music, and Everything New Orleans. Santha is a high school educator and gourmet chef. She loves to run on an almost daily basis, knit, cook, and is a voracious reader. Our son is a bright and very socially adept 11th grader. He enjoys playing sports and procrastinating on his homework assignments. We are also the proud owners of a Pug named Juno. She is very sweet, adorable, and loving. All of us enjoy life inside this bubble that we call Portland! We are outdoor people with busy social lives. We exercise, eat well, and enjoy going out to a show or the movies on occasion. Much of our home life revolves around our lovely kitchen where Santha's culinary skills have become legendary in our community! Most of the food that we eat is locally sourced and we also like to enjoy a nice bottle of wine and lively conversation with dinner.
