Both Joanna and Marcus are lovely, welcoming and hospitable people. They share their house with the guests, which means you can get in touch with them quite easily. They are always open for a chat but they also know when to keep their distance and they are very discreet if you are not in the mood for talking.
The room and private bathroom is exactly as listed, there is lots of nice stuff and clearly, they keep a good eye on the details everywhere around the house. Nearly everything you can image is complimentary, including high quality cosmetic products and a filled mini fridge inside your room.
Located in the upper part of the Portobello Road, there are a lot of nice restaurants and shops around the corner. Tube station Ladbroke Grove is only a short walk away. It takes about 20-30min to get into the city center, which is quite reasonable give the large distances in London. Same is true during the nights, for example with bus line 23 (24 hours).
Couldn't imagine a better experience for my first AirBnB stay.
Joanna and Marcus are very nice. The bedroom and the bathroom were perfect: all was ready for us when we arrived. The location is amazing. There is the famous portobello road market just near the house, with nice vintage shops and many restaurants. We really loved staying in this wonderful place.
Joanna and Marcus = THE BEST HOSTS EVER.
THE HOUSE + ROOM.
1 / I was welcomed early, and the room was ready for me when I arrived!
2 / The room was perfect and exactly as pictured.
3 / The TV even has CABLE (on top of the DVD's they provide) which I really loved
4 / They were both super friendly and welcoming every time I saw them.
In my opinion, the best way to experience a city is to "live like a local" and that's exactly what this little part of London is. It has a real sense of community and I loved all the coffee shops and the grocery stores within feet of the house. I also loved that I could catch a bus or tube train within a 5 minutes walk. There's also a great bus that takes you right to Oxford street, which I thought was a pretty cool way to see some of London while getting to the spot I wanted.
I also took a taxi from their place to Heathrow which cost only a few $$'s more as taking the tube. I think this is an even added bonus to this location too!
I can't wait to come back and stay at their new listing the next time I'm in town : )
We have a really great week-end at Joanna & Marcus's place!
The room is very clean, quiet et comfortable. The bathroom is perfect: clean, cosy and huge.
The area of Portobella Road is amazing, we've loved it. All the restaurants you need: burgers, italian, starbucks...and nice little vintage shops. The neighborhood is very quiet and pleasant.
Joanna and Marcus are very nice, welcoming and smiling! They gave us advices and they did everything that we had a pleasant stay.
I strongly recommend their place!
Thanks again :)
Joanna and Marcus are a charming couple. I had a great time staying with them at their beautiful home. The neighborhood is fantastic. The restaurants are fun with great food. I loved the suggestions Joanna and Marcus gave me. The huge, ultra-modern bathtub is a one of a kind experience!
We spend the weekend at Joanna and Marcus' place and absolutely loved it.
It was my fifth time in London but the first time with such a nice place to stay. The room looks exactly like in the pictures: perfectly clean and nice furniture. And the bathroom is amazing.
But this place isn't only good looking with great style. The hosts, Joanna & Marcus, are very kind and helpful to make the most out of your trip to London. They gave us a lot of great tips for places to visit around the city!
I would definitly recommend this to friends, family and all of you!
Thanks again Joanna and Marcus!
We had a lovely stay at Marcus & Joanna's. The location is the best part. You are literally steps from the Portobello Road Market and all the shopping along that street. We also appreciated that the room and bathroom were actually the size they appeared to be in the ad. It seems that most of the time we stay places we book through airbnb we walk in and think "this is much smaller than we thought". This was not the case here. Room was spacious. Bathroom gigantic and beautiful. Joanna and Marcus are very kind and helpful. We also really loved that there was secure parking at this location. Just be sure to let them know you are arriving by car and they will let you know what to do. We would definitely stay here again.

About the Host, Joanna And Marcus
We are what some Londoners would probably call a typical Notting Hill couple:
Jamaican/British/German, creative, funky, well travelled, enjoying the good things in life (and each other)! We love cooking in our kitchen and getting the fresh produces from the market outside.
Notting Hill is such a unique place with people from around the world living in this small village. It's easy to not leave it at all, everything is here and everyone wants to be here it seems!
Joanna has been living in the area for ages and having run a few businesses here she knows the place and its' people in and out. You can't ask for a better guide! She also knows where you can get a good haircut, some yummy Acke and Saltfish (Jamaican speciality) and where to find the coolest bars and poshest fashion stores in Notting Hill.
Favourites: Books/Toni Morrison's Bluest Eyes, Food/Truffle pasta, Astanga Yoga, Prosecco and nice neighbours.
Marcus-husband is an architect and furniture lover (you better treat these Eams chairs with care!) and loves nothing more than doing work to the house and roof garden.
Favourites: Films/Manhattan (Woddy Allen), Beatles, Single Malts, Joanna, my new Bosch power drill.
We love having guests and we often do because we have many friends from around the world.
We both love travelling and will check out all these other amazing AirB&B places around the world!
