The space
Hi-

Welcome to New York City's first (legal) home built entirely of re-cycled shipping containers! We offer sustainable, comfortable, wonderful living in Williamsburg. Our guests will occupy one private container (apartment) on the ground floor with its own bathroom and kitchenette. Enjoy our front yard any time or ask us when you can share our roof top. A lovely community garden practically next door is also at your disposal. Whether you are a singe traveler or a small family, this space will suit your needs!

Our legal status .."A class B multiple dwelling is a multiple dwelling which is occupied, as a rule, transiently, as the more or less temporary abode of individuals or families who are lodged with or without meals. This class includes hotels, lodging houses, rooming houses, boarding houses..."

Fashionable restaurants, great bars, art galleries in Williamsburg, and Bushwick are within a short walk. There are three small grocery stores on our block, as well as a laundromat.

We have one full size "real bed", a full size sofa bed and a cot available in one 320 square foot room (one container). Let us know if you need a crib. We can accommodate two couples, or a couple with two children, or three people. Good pets are welcome. The 8' x 40' container is heated and air conditioned with internet and cable. It is separate from the main house, where we live.

We provide clean sheets, towels, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, etc. Clean sheets and towels as well as many sundries are provided.

We love our neighborhood! We offer a genuine Brooklyn experience where you can learn about the latest in sustainable urban design and enjoy a unique architectural project.

Guest access
Our experience for the past year with Aibnb has been astonishing. We hope to continue to host for a very long time. Architects, artists, city planners, musicians, our neighbor's moms and dads and more have come to share our amazing home with us. If you are looking for and interesting experience ... It's here.

To our many fans ... thanks for liking our page. You can find us on the "book of face" by looking up Brooklyn Shipping Container House. More of our amazing story can be found there :)

Happy searching folks. Make sure you read the Reviews !!

Other things to note
Many of our guests ask about using the roof space. This is possible with communication as you will need to pass through our bedroom to access.

We have a giant friendly Newfoundland (mostly) dog. While he does not share your space (unless you invite him), we live upstairs so he can't be missed. He's a certified therapy dog and absolutely enjoys being an Airbnb host. He Knows the routine. 9 out of 10 of our Airbnb guests ask if they can take him home as he is as well mannered as he is friendly. For those traveling with pets, if our dogs get along (they usually do) we often allow your dog to spend time upstairs with Mormon and his frequent visiting dog friend, Barnaby, while you are site seeing/working.

Regarding EARLY ARRIVALS and LATE DEPARTURES. We are happy to hold your luggage in our office and you can freshen up in our bathroom upstairs.

See a great video about the house by searching "shipping container house" on the Science Friday website!!

Our home has also been written up in the New York Times, Time Out New York, John Hill's Guide to Contemporary New York City Architecture and countless online publications.

Hi- We are David and Janet. We hope you have checked out one of the many stories written about our home online and we welcome the opportunity to share it with you. A little about us and the home ... David is a seasoned New Yorker with roots on the lower east side and has lived in this area of Brooklyn for about 20 years. Janet is more recently relocated to Brooklyn from Philadelphia, though roots with David go back to childhood days. We are newlyweds as of July 11, 2015 The building received its C of O in 2013 after many challenges from NYC's department of buildings. You can read or listen to the story online. We are Brooklyn's and NYC's first shipping container home. NPR Science Friday has a lovely interview with David and late wife and architect, Michele Bertomen. We like to leave people alone unless they need us. But we are around all the time and live on the second and third floor. Our Giant dog, Mormon, is very gentle and a fully trained therapy dog. If you have any concerns about dogs, I will refer you to our reviews. We hope that we can offer a comfortable, safe home away from home in the heart of trendy Brooklyn. David and Janet

During your stay
We live upstairs on the second and third floors so there is always someone to ask a question or provide feedback. We are happy to give you a tour of the house and answer any questions you might have. Visiting a foreign city can be intimidating. We are happy to advise you regarding public transportation and local tourist spots.

While we offer our guest utmost in privacy, we have enjoyed many interactions with our guests. Access to our popular roof space can be arranged ... just ask and we will come up with a time convenient to all.
