It's a great house. This is a clean and affordable place to stay.
We are conveniently located in the tropical district of Puna, on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are a logical gateway from which you can explore the strikingly beautiful, utterly raw, and uncrowded natural surroundings of East Hawaii. We are a 20 minute drive from the Hilo International Airport, a 5 minute drive from the town of Pahoa, a 20 minute drive to the sunny Kapoho beach parks, and an easy 40 minute drive from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Come relax, unwind, and fill your days with fascinating activities.
"Paradise Getaway" is located on a 1/4 acre lot, in Anialoa subdivision. Our house is surrounded by undeveloped lots on 2 sides, increasing your feeling of privacy. Our yard is tropical and ever developing. My husband David designed and built this house himself. Upon entering you will feel at home, with our comfortable and open floor plan. It has vaulted open beam ceilings, and plenty of large windows, allowing for tropical breezes to flow thru. Every room also has ceiling fans, it is easy to adjust the temperature based on air flow. We have a fully equipped kitchen with many cooking and dining conveniences, so relax and cook at home, or grill out on our charcoal grill. Our sleeping area has a new and comfortable queen sized bed. There is a large closet with room for luggage, and drawers to unpack for your stay. We also have a fold out futon where 2 additional people can sleep. Our bathroom is clean, spacious, and has a full sized bathtub / shower which is heated by solar hot water. Most houses in the Puna district rely on rain catchment systems for their water needs. We invested in a 10,000 gallon concrete rain catchment tank, complete with a state of the art UV filter. This ensures ample water supply, and a delicious and safe water source for all your drinking, cooking, and bathing needs. When comparing vacation rentals in this area, keep these quality eco-friendly features in mind. To help you get out and enjoy we provide the following: beach towels, sand mats, basic snorkel gear, boogies board, small ice chest / cooler, kids sand toys, and flash lights for your night time lava viewing. Don't forget, we have on-site laundry! A FRIENDLY NOTE: Our house is on a quiet street, and we request no loud parties. We have a strict NO SMOKING / NO PET POLICY for the comfort of all future guests. THANKS
People are always courious what the weather may be like; it is dynamic! A "typical day" might be sunny and warm with some fast moving clouds and a short rain squal. It frequently rains at night and in the early morning, keeping it cool and comfortable for sleeping. The combination of sun, warmth, and rain, is what makes it look so tropical, and beautiful! It is helpful to pack a long sleeve shirt / pants, closed toe walking shoes for the lava, and a light rain coat. The following are all within an easy days drive: Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, Hwy 130/Kalapana -previous lava flows, snorkeling at tide pools, soaking at warm ponds, surfing /swimming, farmers markets,Lava Trees, tropical gardens, zoo, downtown Pahoa and Hilo (restaurants/museums/shopping)

Our home is located in the Ainaloa subdivision. It is easy to find, and upon booking your stay - we provide complete driving instructions. We are located on a paved street, and have ample parking in front of our home.
Our home is very sturdy , and is built to all modern building codes. We are fortunate to have successfully survived a Category 1 hurricane - our guest said our home did not even shudder. This adds peace of mind during the tropical storms that occasionally occur in Hawaii.
We consider our home to be very relaxing and peaceful, however you can expect to hear typical neighborhood noises. We do have a few families living in the area . Please be considerate of your noise levels, by honoring the quiet hours posted in our house rules.

Best Place to stay ever on the big island of Hawaii! Since you have to rent a car on the island of Hawaii, the distance really doesn't matter. Kristen is really nice and response to our question immediately. Check in and Check out are really easy, save our lots of time. If you want a secluded place to stay, and if you want to feel a chill life as an islander, this def should be your first choice! (the neighbors are really nice too!)
Prior to arrival, Kirsten was prompt and courteous in answering all my questions. Check-in instructions were so detailed we got in without a hitch. Then on day of arrival, we had a fruit basket waiting for us. The pineapple was soooo sweet, kids ate everything!!! Kitchen was fully stocked so we were able to have some meals there which saved us some $.The listing was accurate as described, neighborhood and location was great, quiet, clean and safe. Covered parking, Wifi and washer/dryer were very beneficial. Mahalo for making our vacation an unforgettable one. We will definitely stay here when we come back and would definitely recommend to friends and family. I give Kirsten 5 stars!!!!!
A great house fully equipped, we found everything we needed to enjoy our stay.
Nice house in an ideal location to visit Hilo and the volcano park. We didn't meet Kirsten, but she answered our questions very fast and made sure we had everything we needed!
This was our second time staying at Kirsten's lovely home. It is always clean and peaceful here. I love that this area receives a gentle rain almost nightly and cools everything off and keeps it all so green. Kirsten is always quick to respond to inquiries. We hope to return again!
My son and I enjoyed our time at Paradise Getaway. The location was perfect for us urban Honolulu residents - far away enough from the city to feel relaxing but not so far where we felt isolated. It's conveniently located near Pahoa Town and only about 20 minutes or so from Hilo. Also because it's off one of the main highways on Hawai'i Island (130), it was super convenient to get to pretty much any destination (and we traveled all over the island during our two weeks).
The house itself is lovely. We arrived in the late evening (and it's very dark!) but Kirsten's directions were clear and helpful so we were able to get the key without any issues. She also arranged a very thoughtful fruit basket and the house was very clean, airy, and very cozy. One of my favorite spots was the deck - it spans one side and the back of the house, so we ate breakfast outside a lot to take in the pretty scenery; it was also a wonderful place to work because it was quiet and fairly cool during the day. The bedroom area was cool and breezy at night (and we've been having major humidity here), so no need for a/c at all. And, like Kirsten said, the water coming from their catchment and filtration system really is delicious! No problems with any of the equipment or facilities while we were there.
Kirsten was a great host. She was very quick to respond to my many questions.
Paradise Getaway was an incredible value for my family and I would definitely stay there again. Mahalo, Kirsten!
Everything as described. The house is fully equipped. Kitchen, bathroom with towels, living room with TV and DVD and Internet. The location is not central but very quiet in the moist part of Big Island.
We can recommend the offer and thank Kirsten for detailed information before traveling.
It was great!!
About the Host, Kirsten
My family lives in Alaska. I am a stay at home mom. I grow a big ,organic garden for my family. We choose Hawaii as a place to visit yearly, and enjoy our trip to keep our place looking wonderful.
This home, built by my husband, David, was built off the ground with open beam construction, to enjoy the cool breezes that Hawaii has to offer. Powered with hot water solar, we hope to eventually go to solar electric.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
