Every so often an exceptional home comes along. Casa Hechicera is that home. Simply stated, Casa Hechicera is magnificent.
Some have described this as one of the most beautiful homes they have ever seen. Not a bad description, particularly in a town known for beautiful homes. Casa Hechicera (Beguiling or Bewitching House), can best be described as a contemporary take on Spanish Colonial, the style for which this city is renowned.
As one ascends the staircase from the simple, double gates at the roadside, the first thing to strike you is the magical sound of the fountain in the lush gardens. This is quickly eclipsed by the sight of the blue glass-tiled swimming pool and the white wind drapes protecting the covered outside living area.
Metal and glass doors define the inside from the exterior and on the mostly beautiful days common to San Miguel, one can push the doors aside and enjoy unrestrained access to the breezes and the sun.
The ceilings of Casa Hechicera are all 12 feet (4 meters), and add to the spaciousness of all spaces throughout the house. The architecture is not meant to stun or shout, but rather to quietly show the elegance of light and comfortable living. There are no drawbacks to the house...it was designed for comfortable, elegant, spacious living. Most Spanish Colonial architecture restricts light...Casa Hechicera was designed to let light in...through light wells and skylights. The second floor, offers total, unobstructed views of the city and the mountains in the distance, and since we face westward...from the side of the hill...the most beautiful sunsets every evening. Cocktails over sunset can also be enjoyed from the rooftop terraces that continually change as the light recedes.
The bedrooms are large, with on suite bathrooms, large showers, lots of light and ceiling fans. The kitchen has all the modern appliances conforming to ease of entertainment and easy living. There are simply no words to describe the ease and absolute comfort of living here, plus the lap pool, and Hot Springs hot tub make Casa Hechicera a home you will want to return to for many years.
The neighborhood is primarily Mexican as is all of San Miguel...there are no gated communities designed exclusively for safety...it is simply not required. One of the most delightful and trendy bar/ restaurants in town is located five doors up the street...El Manantial. The owners are terrific and know the house well. We are located on the edge of El Centro, and walking to the Jardine is a simple five minute walk on centuries old cobblestone...while Parque Juarez is a five minute walk in the opposite direction.
Care for the house as you would your own.
There is a housekeeper five days a week and she loves to prepare meals given ample warning. Alma speaks English and knows you are here to relax. The general rule is to tip 50 pesos per person per week. Meal preparation generally ellicits tips of approximately 100 pesos per meal. (approx $10.00USD)
There are six gas fireplaces...she know how to light them and would be pleased to show you. The seventh fireplace is outside and is a regular wood burning fireplace.
Absolutely stunning home in a wonderful town. Will certainly consider coming back.
We had a fantastic experience at El Centro. We had high expectations based on the pictures and advertisement given. They were exceeded with this exquisite home. The architecture and design of this home were absolutely first class. The views of the city were stunning and the location was excellent. We also felt safe and secure while staying there.
The owner was a great communicator and very accommodating. The home has a caretaker that was helpful, kind, and went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of.
If you haven't been to San Miguel you should know that it is a walking city, they love parades and fireworks, and the nightlife doesn't get started until very late.
I am not one to give a long review but I couldn't help but writing something nice. Our experience was all we hoped for and I'm sure this home will provide other guests with the same opportunity.
We are from the Toronto area, actually we live on an island in the middle of a lake in Ontario. We also have a home in San Miguel de Allende where we spend the winter
