Beautiful ocean view from custom asian inspired designed home. Surrounded by 1000 square foot of covered hard wood wrap around covered deck. Vaulted 17′ foot open air, sky blue ceiling, with 10′ teak paneled walls. Earthen floors (sealed with beeswax), earthen exterior, large reclaimed granite bathroom, and kitchenette. All original oil paintings.
The Ocean House is on a beautiful, rustic retreat and event sanctuary located on the island of Kaua’i. The land is situated just a few minutes walk from the protected Moloaa Bay, and is just 30 minutes from the airport. Moloaa, which translates to “the matted root,” is known for its farming community and rural, “off the beaten track” feel.
Our mission is to connect people to the beauty of Kaua'i, and our spaces have been created to blend seamlessly with the nature that surrounds us. We strive to be as “eco-friendly” as we can, and to minimise our impact on our surroundings. The buildings are constructed of reclaimed teak and sandalwood from 150 year old buildings in Thailand. We also incorporate earthen floors, exterior earthen walls, and reclaimed granite in the kitchen and bathrooms. The structures are all working pieces of art, incorporating mosaics and statues, sacred geometry and antique artifacts.
The Matted Root is a place to remember our connection to the wonder of life. It is a place to relax, unplug, and experience life the way it once was. Come enjoy the open air structures, the healing ocean, and the beauty that is Old Kaua’i. We look forward to sharing the wonder of Moloaa with you.

Bikes, beach chairs, fins and snokling gear, yoga mats, surf boards, tandem kayak, spear guns, fishing poles, beach towels, scuba tank, boogie boards, and Moloaa Bay.
We are happy to talk with our guest if they want to know about anything. We also are happy to let our guest have their own personal retreat time without interuptions.
We are just a few minutes from Moloaa Bay, which is great for swimming, snokling on the north and south sides, enjoying the nice beaches and hiking to the north point for sunrise to see turtles or whales.
We also have Moloaa fruit stand just up the road for coffee, smoothies, sandwiches; as well as a good health food store 10 minutes drive to the north. Also Common ground garden restaurant across from the health food store has organic and local breakfast and lunches that are wonderful.
We really recommend renting a car due to the fact that Kaua'i is very spread out.
That said, the bus stop is up the hill at Moloaa fruit stand and hitch hiking is common and easy in Kauai.

I liked the space of the ocean view very much. It offers an awesome opportunity to dive into oneself and meditation through that vastness of nature. The veranda and the different possibilities to take place on it and to have a cup of tea or coffee and to watch into the distance: Fantastic. Anthony and Hami are very good host. I have respect how they do that. The world can be happy that they do so, as they do. Best Peter
Anthony and Hami were warm, generous and caring hosts. The Ocean House is absolutely lovely and has a stunning view of the ocean and jungle. Anthony is a true visionary and really interesting to talk to.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to connect with nature, themselves and the universe. It is very inspiring and has amazing creative energy. I would not recommend it to anyone who hates insects, roosters and jungle noises! This place isn't for everyone, but for the open minded traveller, it's heaven. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Mahalo Anthony and Hami, you were ace hosts!
Anthony and Hami were very gracious hosts. Their home is a labor of love.
Very beautifully appointed with Asian influences.
We were there over T giving and they were gracious enough to invite us to their home for a homemade Turkey dinner, which was very special since we were away from home.
Anthony and Hami's lodge is as they describe, and Moloaa Bay is a beautiful, relatively-secluded beach. When we told locals that we were heading there, they nodded and said things like "nice beach". We enjoyed our stay.
We stayed at the Ocean House and loved every bit of it - we felt like we were living in and with nature, waking up to the sunrise and stargazing in the night before going to sleep with the sound of the ocean. We feel so replenished and peaceful from our visit to Kauai and Anthony and Hami's beautiful space was a large reason why we enjoyed our stay so much. If you are love the outdoors, conscious of nature, and appreciate a peaceful place to go back to after a day of hiking and sightseeing, this place if perfect. Thank you, Anthony and Hami (and Mowgli!), for a memorable visit. All the best from Los Angeles and Germany!
On the evening we arrived, Anthony was very attentive to phone/SMS to ensure we found the place alright. He lives on the same property, and met us as we pulled up to show us around. The driveway up to the Ocean House is quite steep and rocky, so required slow careful driving in our rental car. The Ocean House itself was exactly as described - rustic but beautiful accommodations, with a comfortable bed facing sliding doors that give you a gorgeous view of forest/jungle and ocean, especially nice for sunrise/sunset! The shower was great, with hot water, and we had everything we needed for keeping a few things on hand - fridge for drinks, coffee maker, grinder, hot plate etc. As most people comment, you wake up to the roosters at 5am, and I think that is pretty much unavoidable. They continue for some time, so it's possible but not easy to just go back to sleep, depending on how light a sleeper you are. There's not much to do after 9pm in Kaua'i anyway though, so shifting your days earlier makes sense. Anthony has a puppy that he would let out and it would come into the Beach House since we always left the door open - cute dog, but it would steal our shoes and run off with them. There were geckos or some kind of small harmless lizard on the inside roof, and I think it was them making a chattering noise, so don't be alarmed if you hear some scrambling or chattering noises. Again, because of wanting to leave the doors open for the view and awesome breeze, mosquitoes ate me up a bit, but you can guard against that with the mosquito netting for the bed that's there. In terms of access to North Shore / East Shore, the location is fantastic, and we really enjoyed our stay here. I would certainly consider staying here again, and I recommend it to anyone comfortable with the more rustic vibe who wants to get away from hotel-type accommodations.
My husband and I stayed at Anthony and Hami's Ocean House for our honeymoon in the beginning of this September. Having recently come back from our trip, I know I am going to be thinking of their beautiful open serene home that overlooked Moloaa Bay until we return. The space itself is simple, clean, private and quiet on the beginning of Kauai's beautiful North Shore. Anthony was a wonderful host, very relaxed, warm and generous and an obviously talented artist having built and designed the space. An unparalleled place to stay- We definitely left feeling a sense of beauty and awe.
Amazing on every level. Wonderful people to work with and just incredibly welcoming. Anthony is a prince. The place was so much more than we expected. It truly it has everything you may need for a quiet and connected trip to this amazing island (our first time on Kauai). The location is central to everything you would want to do on the north shore and the intimacy and beauty of the property is hard to describe. We will definitely return and have already begun to look at our schedules for our next trip to Kauai and to this beautiful place. Thank you!
I knew within minutes of arriving that I was going to love this place, and after staying 10 days it continued to exceed my expectations. Anthony has built a magical place that I hope to return to often. Hami and Anthony's delightful mother Lee also made me feel at home. The fruit trees and pile of coconuts (with machete if you dare to try and crack them) were fun to stroll through in the morning. The open air house was a pleasure to sleep in (but bring ear plugs because the rooster symphony begins around 3am), and mosquitos were not a problem at all.
