About This Listing
Private bedroom with security lock in a student house with shared common areas is an ideal place for a short stay!
Welcome to Lake Hopatcong, a restful lake community in the gateway to the Skylands, in northwestern New Jersey. I'm an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, and this house is generally used for foreign students who want to improve their English through total cultural immersion. However, when there is space, it is also open to AirBnB'ers.
Please see our other listing, "Private Bedroom, ESL Student House," for a photo of the 2nd bedroom with a full-sized bed.
I'll leave continental breakfast foods in the mini-fridge for you if you are a short-term guest. Just tell me what you like to eat.
Due to the nature of this listing, please write and tell me about yourself and how you will use the space. References are required, either from AirB&B or other sources.
This listing is for one bedroom, which has a keyed security lock. The common areas are: a kitchenette, bathroom, living room, laundry area and spacious indoor porch. There is a back yard, which is nice for sitting outside or BBQ in summer. Free off-street parking is available. Laundry facilities are on site.
There is a small movie, music and book library for first-time visitors to the USA, internet, and cable TV.
Interaction with Guests
You are welcome to join us in the evenings at the main house (5 minutes' walk) to socialize. Lunch and dinner meal plans are available.
There is a house manager who lives on the lower floor.
Any extra transportation, sightseeing, or English lessons would have to be arranged in advance at an additional cost.
We also do tour services to NYC and the surrounding area. Inquire about pricing.
This is a country place, and you will need comfortable walking shoes. Restaurants, bars and shopping are all within 12 minutes' drive or 15-30 minutes' walk. The Hopatcong State Park offers picnic areas, walking trails, and a swimming and boat launching area in summer. In winter you can go ice skating or ice fishing, and ski areas are within 40 minutes from here.
The train station is 3 miles away, and I can pick you up at the Lake Hopatcong station if you don't have a car. We will also transport you locally by special arrangement.
IMPORTANT: The train does not run all the way to Lake Hopatcong on weekends. If you are coming by public transport, you will need to go to Dover station. I can pick you up there for a modest surcharge.
Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM when you are sharing the house with students or other guests. No smoking in the house. If you cook anything with strong smells, please open the windows. Check in after 4 PM or before 10 PM unless special arrangements are made well in advance. You are expected to keep the house neat and clean. If you need cleaning supplies, let us know. If any of these rules are violated, $150 will be deducted from your security deposit.

About the Host, Mercedes
I'm an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher/professor at the Culture Palette School, who also does a variety of creative activities, like acting, singing, photography and filmmaking. I like to travel and I like to host travelers and visiting students. If you are new to AirBnB and have no references, please write me a detailed message about why you'd want to stay with me and what you want to do while you are here. Hope to see you soon! SPECIAL TRIBUTE: My partner, Roger, passed away on January 23, 2015. He was an amusing, wonderful man who will be missed by all our guests, and especially, by me.
