The space

BnB - not self-catering.

The bungalow itself is in a stunning location close to the sea. The room is small but perfectly formed and you can have you breakfast overlooking the sea and see horses cantering along the beach. It is not luxurious, it was built in 1925 and is quirky in a pre war sort of way.
Self catering is not offered, but you are welcome to help yourselves to tea and coffee, bring in a takeaway or use the micro wave. There are however, plenty of restaurants in Filey which is only a walk away across the beach or ten minutes in the car, and there is the nearby Primrose Valley Diner ( in season) for a cooked breakfast if you prefer that to the cereals and toast that I am happy to provide.

Although it is a bungalow it is not very suitable for people with a mobility problem. the shower is over the bath, and there are steps down to the nearby beach. Some people have struggled with that. The bungalow belongs to my brother and I, and inevitably we go there whenever we can, so one of us is likely to be around. We do try to be part of the background.

There is plenty of parking and there is WiFi . I am not an expert on North Yorkshire but I can tell you some of the places of interest and how to get there. There are some lovely walks around the area and Filey itself marks the end of Cleveland Way, which is a beautiful long walk across North Yorkshire .
The locality is also good for birdwatchers;the Bempton bird sanctuary is very close, and one of the photographs is of the brooding Bempton Cliffs. From April to July ,puffins can be seen there, as well as many other sea birds.
There is an excellent theatre in Scarborough , as well as concerts and films, so plenty to entertain you, even though Primrose Valley itself is very quiet. Once you settle in for the night, there is only the sound of the sea for company.
As you will gather there are actually two rooms available in the bungalow and so if you want to bring children they are is safe and I have a collection of buckets and spades for general use.

Guest access

There is plenty of parking, free WiFi and TV available.
there is also a small smoking area outside with an ashtray for your cigarette ends please.

Interaction with guests

If guests would like help and advice with anything I will do my best.I am around most of the time as it is my home.

The neighborhood

The neighbourhood is really quite quiet and not well developed at all, however if your objective is to get a bit of peace and tranquility back into your life then this is the place to be. Further up the cliff there is a caravan park and they do have many facilities and attractions . Down near the bungalow, however, you cannot hear these attractions at all.

Getting around

There is no public transport during the winter season that brings you close to the house. Getting to and from Filey would always mean a walk across the beach or a taxi ( cost £6). In the summer season when there are buses ,the last one back from Filey is 7.30pm.

Other things to note

During the winter season, the public transport is not good. Your own transport would be a big advantage.

I loved Josephine's cottage, a comfortable and relaxing space and with unbelievable views. My morning walks were tranquil and uplifting. Josephine was very kind and lovely and we had some interesting chats. My breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed in the conservatory overlooking the sea, what more could I ask for! Wow! Thank you.

Fantastic location with gorgeous views and easy access to the beach. Josephine sent clear directions in advance and was very hospitable throughout my stay. The bed was comfortable and the wifi worked perfectly. The road down the cliff was steep (as Josephine warned), but only for a few seconds. She served a lovely breakfast of cereal with fruit and yoghurt and juice with that magical view. I had a great stay and would definitely stay again.

Amazing view from the house, the beach walk is a beautiful one regardless of the time of day and Josephine is a wonderful host! Stayed with her over Christmas and she invited me to her Christmas dinner, which was lovely. Filey Brigg is a nice walk away and the view from there is amazing (though I did lose a kite due to my own carelessness). All in all, a wonderful experience and I can't recommend staying here enough.

As a new user of this sight, I was a little apprehensive to be staying in someones else's home for a holiday. However Josephine was a lovely, thoughtful, and helpful host. She helped me to feel welcome and at ease throughout my stay, which enabled me to relax and enjoy my reminiscent holiday in Filey by the ocean. I will certainly be using this sight again. Thank you Josephine for sharing your beautiful home by the sea, and for all your efforts in helping to ensure my stay was comfortable, relaxed, and enjoyable.

We stayed in Josephine's bungalow and we had a wonderful time living a true 1950's summer! The location is great and we enjoyed taking breakfast looking at the vast sea views, even spotted the odd seal popping up for a breather! The beach is lovely and safe for children and easily accessible. A 15 min walk into Filey along the beach and first stop is the ice cream parlour! The rooms are very comfortable and we slept very well. It's the perfect place to explore the coast and the moors.

I am a bit of an ageing hippy and I like living in this beauttful quiet place next to the sea. I am also very sociable however and I like to have guests.
My bungalow was built in 1925 and still retains some of its quirkiness. that means that it is not full of modern technology but I do have WiFi so I can keep in touch with all my friends, and you can do that too. When I am here I lead a relatively simple life, and if you want a restful few days away from the hurley burley then this would suit you. It is within easy reach of Scarborough,Bridlington or York for that matter, so nowhere is too far way. I have books and I have music so you need not be bored. I do like pets although at the moment I don't have any. Dogs like it here, as they too can go for walks on the beach or take a dip in the sea.
If you are a birdwatcher,Bempton Cliffs are visible from the house and it is possible to see puffins there at the right time of the year. the photograph shows the view of Bempton cliffs from my front porch. Even the winters here have their charm so there is something for everyone all the year round.
