BnB - not self-catering.
The bungalow itself is in a stunning location right next to the sea. The rooms available are small but perfectly formed and you can have you breakfast overlooking the sea and see horses cantering along the beach. It is not luxurious, it was built in 1925 and is quirky in a pre war sort of way. It is clean and comfortable however, and very quiet. There is a room with twin beds and another with a double. They are not ensuite but the bathroom is right next door to the bedroom.
Nor can we offer self catering , but you are welcome to help yourselves to tea and coffee, bring in a takeaway or use the micro wave. There are however, plenty of restaurants in Filey which is only a walk away across the beach or ten minutes in the car, and there is the nearby Primrose Valley Diner for a cooked breakfast if you prefer that to the cereals and toast that I am happy to provide.
Although it is a bungalow it is not very suitable for people with a mobility problem. the shower is over the bath, and there are steps down to the nearby beach. Some people have struggled with that. The bungalow belongs to my brother and I, and inevitably we go there whenever we can, so one of us is likely to be around. We do try to be part of the background.
There is plenty of parking and there is WiFi . I am not an expert on North Yorkshire but I can tell you some of the places of interest and how to get there. There are some lovely walks around the area and Filey itself marks the end of Cleveland Way, which is a beautiful long walk across North Yorkshire .
The locality is also good for birdwatchers;the Bempton bird sanctuary is very close, and one of the photographs is of the brooding Bempton Cliffs. From April to July ,puffins can be seen there, as well as many other sea birds.
There is an excellent theatre in Scarborough , as well as concerts and films, so plenty to entertain you, even though Primrose Valley itself is very quiet. Once you settle in for the night, there is only the sound of the sea for company.
Children are welcome, it is safe and I have a collection of buckets and spades for general use.
Loved staying in Josephine's Bungalow. The view is spectacular and she was a most gracious host. I would loved to have stayed longer, curled up by her fireplace and sharing stories. Her home is cozy and comfortable and she went out of her way to make us feel comfortable.
I can't recommend Jo's place enough!
Beautiful beaches right on the doorstep surrounded by dramatic (website hidden)'s is a cosy bungalow in a great location; handy for Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, etc. We were very well looked after, with great breakfasts overlooking the beach.
We even got lucky with the weather (a sunny day in November!)
Staying with Josephine in her amazing bungalow by the sea has been one of our highlights so far. We loved the beautiful view and enjoyed being able to run a long the beach in the morning before breakfast. Josephine was very helpful, friendly and considerate. She kindly allowed us to do our washing and even brought it in off the line when it started raining. She gave us great advice on things to do and places to see in the area.
Breakfast was yummy and we enjoyed trying out the handmade honeys and jams and looking out at the waves of the ocean whilst relaxing with a pot of tea.
We would highly recommend staying with Josephine. It is a great place to relax and unwind!
absolutely great location, reminded me of holidays with family by the seaside when I was a young boy,( quite a while ago). jo was a fabulous host who could not do enough for us ,,,would recommend a stay to everyone. greg and prue
We only had a short overnight stay as arrived late and were off again before breakfast but Josephine made us feel very welcome in her home.
We would recommend the Bungalow by the Sea to anyone wanting a relaxed place to explore the North Yorks. coast. Apparently the are wonderful view from the sun room but we were only there in the dark!
Perfect! If you get a chance to stay in Jo's bungalow by the sea, take it. Not only is the bungalow situated in the right place for the best view, but her beds are comfy and Jo is the crowning jewel to this cliff-side beauty. Treat yourself to a few days by the sea.
I stayed at Jo's bungalow by the sea (North Sea) for eight days and was sad to be leaving. The 1925-built bungalow allows for timeless contentment. The sunny observatory with lovely wooden table was my spot of choice to watch the sun come up on the sea, take part in the daily ritual of tides and wind down in the (website hidden) is a host that allows her guests to feel at home from the moment you walk in. WIFI, cereals & toast with homemade jams, comfy sweaters for when it's chilly and the best was the hot water bottle for the two nights when I was so tired and ready to collapse.
I can't say enough about the openness of Jo and her home. I hope to return again soon. Thanks for everything, Jo.......
Jo was a lovely host, the bungalow is really nice and the location couldn't be better. The view from the porch at the back of Jo's home really made me appreciate the beauty of the Yorkshire coast, the beach just a stones throw from her back door is truly amazing. I would definitely stay again, I was gutted that I did only get to stay for a few nights.
I highly recommend a stay at Jo's delightful bungalow by the sea, incredible views, friendly host and lovely neighbours.
We had a great stay, everything was perfect from my early morning strolls on the beach, great days out and the tranquility of the sound of the waves from my evenings spent in the sun room.
A great location within easy reach of Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington and Filey. Don't miss the excellent Carboot on Sundays.
We will definitely be returning again soon :)
Had a fantastic time at Jo's bungalow, the weather was hot and Jo was the perfect host. Took my sister in law from London and she loved (website hidden) made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. The location couldn't have been more perfect with the views over the sea. Lovely pleasant walk along the beach to Filey took about 20 minutes. Would highly recommend Jo's place and especially if you are looking to just chill out. I have told Jo her place will now be my bolt hole and she will have me as a visitor again and again.
