The Space

BnB - not self-catering.

The bungalow itself is in a stunning location close to the sea. The room is small but perfectly formed and you can have you breakfast overlooking the sea and see horses cantering along the beach. It is not luxurious, it was built in 1925 and is quirky in a pre war sort of way.
Self catering is not offered, but you are welcome to help yourselves to tea and coffee, bring in a takeaway or use the micro wave. There are however, plenty of restaurants in Filey which is only a walk away across the beach or ten minutes in the car, and there is the nearby Primrose Valley Diner for a cooked breakfast if you prefer that to the cereals and toast that I am happy to provide.

Although it is a bungalow it is not very suitable for people with a mobility problem. the shower is over the bath, and there are steps down to the nearby beach. Some people have struggled with that. The bungalow belongs to my brother and I, and inevitably we go there whenever we can, so one of us is likely to be around. We do try to be part of the background.

There is plenty of parking and there is WiFi . I am not an expert on North Yorkshire but I can tell you some of the places of interest and how to get there. There are some lovely walks around the area and Filey itself marks the end of Cleveland Way, which is a beautiful long walk across North Yorkshire .
The locality is also good for birdwatchers;the Bempton bird sanctuary is very close, and one of the photographs is of the brooding Bempton Cliffs. From April to July ,puffins can be seen there, as well as many other sea birds.
There is an excellent theatre in Scarborough , as well as concerts and films, so plenty to entertain you, even though Primrose Valley itself is very quiet. Once you settle in for the night, there is only the sound of the sea for company.
As you will gather there are actually two rooms available in the bungalow and so if you want to bring children they are (website hidden) is safe and I have a collection of buckets and spades for general use.

Guest Access

There is plenty of parking, free WiFi and TV available.
there is also a small smoking area outside with an ashtray for your cigarette ends please.

Interaction with Guests

If guests would like help and advice with anything I will do my best.I am around most of the time.

The Neighborhood

The neighbourhood is really quite quiet and not well developed at all, however if your objective is to get a bit of peace and tranquility back into your life then this is the place to be. Further up the cliff there is a caravan park and they do have many facilities and attractions . Down near the bungalow, however, you cannot hear these attractions at all.

  • I stayed in Jo's bungalow with my mother for three nights and we had a wonderful time. The location is great and we sat having breakfast looking at the amazing sea view. The beach is lovely and easily accessible. The rooms are very comfortable and Jo was great - really helpful and friendly. It's the perfect place to explore the coast and the moors. Thanks Jo!

  • We really loved our time in Primrose Valley. The bungalow is perfectly situated with the most beautiful views across the bay. Josephine was a wonderful host, and made us feel like part of the family for our short stay. Thoroughly recommended, thank you for making our stay so special. We would love to visit again and would welcome you to our home in London anytime.

  • Josephine's bungalow over the sea was lovely with nice sea views. It was cozy and relaxing. A bit of a trek from the station and had to line up with the tides to get there via the beach but worth it in the end! She also kindly sent up my gloves and hat which I left behind.

  • Loved staying in Josephine's Bungalow. The view is spectacular and she was a most gracious host. I would loved to have stayed longer, curled up by her fireplace and sharing stories. Her home is cozy and comfortable and she went out of her way to make us feel comfortable.

  • I can't recommend Jo's place enough!
Beautiful beaches right on the doorstep surrounded by dramatic (website hidden)'s is a cosy bungalow in a great location; handy for Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, etc. We were very well looked after, with great breakfasts overlooking the beach.

We even got lucky with the weather (a sunny day in November!)

    Thanks, Jo!

  • Staying with Josephine in her amazing bungalow by the sea has been one of our highlights so far. We loved the beautiful view and enjoyed being able to run a long the beach in the morning before breakfast. Josephine was very helpful, friendly and considerate. She kindly allowed us to do our washing and even brought it in off the line when it started raining. She gave us great advice on things to do and places to see in the area.
Breakfast was yummy and we enjoyed trying out the handmade honeys and jams and looking out at the waves of the ocean whilst relaxing with a pot of tea.
We would highly recommend staying with Josephine. It is a great place to relax and unwind!

    Response from Josephine:

Thankyou for your lovely comments. I still wish that I could have organised better weather for you though, instead of all that fog. I hope that the rest of the trip is going to plan.
    All good wishes

  • We only had a short overnight stay as arrived late and were off again before breakfast but Josephine made us feel very welcome in her home.

We would recommend the Bungalow by the Sea to anyone wanting a relaxed place to explore the North Yorks. coast. Apparently the are wonderful view from the sun room but we were only there in the dark!

About
I am a bit of an ageing hippy and I like living in this beauttful quiet place next to the sea. I am also very sociable however and I like to have guests. My bungalow was built in 1925 and still retains some of its quirkiness. that means that it is not full of modern technology but I do have WiFi so I can keep in touch with all my friends, and you can do that too. When I am here I lead a relatively simple life, and if you want a restful few days away from the hurley burley then this would suit you. It is within easy reach of Scarborough,Bridlington or York for that matter, so nowhere is too far way. I have books and I have music so you need not be bored. I do like pets although at the moment I don't have any. Dogs like it here, as they too can go for walks on the beach or take a dip in the sea. If you are a birdwatcher,Bempton Cliffs are visible from the house and it is possible to see puffins there at the right time of the year. the photograph shows the view of Bempton cliffs from my front porch. Even the winters here have their charm so there is something for everyone all the year round.
