We are Adela and Manuel:
Manuel is 66 years old, retired, and I have 57 years, we are almost all day at home. We have five years of experience hosting tourists.
We have two children, but do not live with us. We are very quiet people, we like to chat with friends, watch movies, play sports. We love having housed, share our culture, as is the food and that people feel at ease, as in your own home. Accommodation includes burglar alarm and keys for each room.
We have hot water 24 hours a day. There are also filter water to drink. There washing machine to wash your clothes-housed. You can use the kitchen to prepare food. From our house you can see the city with a great view of the three volcanoes, Misti, Chachani y Pichupichu.
If the room indicates "busy" we have three ads where you can book. The room size is 9 square meters.
It is possible to provide dinner for a fee of $ 3.00.
We help to stay orienting on what you need. Very near the house there are shops, restaurants, cinemas and shopping center.
Arequipa is a beautiful city with a beautiful and sunny weather most of the year, the climate is dry and mild, sunny day and cold at night, with an average temperature of 20 ° C.
There are many tourist spots in the city, and other cities as the Colca Canyon. The people are very welcoming to tourists. The property is located in the city center, a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas.
The Cottage Residential neighborhood is Cabaña María. You can walk to the main square in 20 minutes. If you want you can also go by bus or taxi (the fee of taxi is 5 soles). Public transport is 50 meters away from the house.
We wait for you!
When I arrived to Arequipa I was originally in a hostel though I found it hard to practice my Spanish and get a good feel of the city. Through my Spanish school the prices of home stays seemed a bit steep and I found this to be the best option available. I am glad I made the move to stay with Adela and Manual as the place is within a 15 minute walk to Plaza de Armas or you can take a local bus that runs close to the house. The bed was comfortable and the pillow was absolutely heavenly. The place is clean, the showers are warm, the food is good and they are extremely nice and easy to talk to; what more could you ask for?! I highly recommend staying with them as you will be sure to enjoy your stay in Arequipa.
Adele and Manuel were wonderful hosts. They were extremely friendly and accomodating. We arrived very early in the morning and they made breakfast for us even though we had not paid for the previous evening. They also gave us great recommendations on tours and places to go in the city. Even though we were only there for two nights I really did feel like family. I highly recommend this home stay.
Great host and some very helpful long-term guests... thank you!
Adela and Manuel are amazing. They are extremely kind and welcoming people who go out of their to make you feel at home. We had a night bus to Cusco on our check out day and they allowed us to leave our bags the entire day. The room was great and exactly what we needed. Their house is fairly close to the city center and major attractions. Thank you so much for allowing us to practice Spanish with you! We would definitely recommend it.
Wonderful stay.....Very nice house halfway between bus station and downtown....We liked walking to the center as ;part of our sightseeing but Adela & Fernando are super helpful about getting you a taxi or even accompanying you. They are really attentive and helpful and we had such a nice stay in their home.
Visita perfecta...gente amable y autentica y la casa es preciosa y bien situada no lejos de la estacion de los autobuses ni lejos del centro. Adela y Fernando son gente amable y carinosa.
My husband and I loved our stay at Adela's home. They had blazing fast wifi, a comfortable bed and lovely fresh breakfasts. Adela gave us a great walking tour of Arequipa when we arrived, and showed us some of the sights downtown. I'd definitely stay there again if I was to pass through Arequipa.
After my fifth night here I must say I am pleased with my experience. Adela and Manuel are super nice people, very laid back and down to earth, and they are willing to help with any questions asked. The room here is cozy and comfortable and the house is clean and nice with a great functioning (hot water) shower. A plus if you have experienced the contraire. The central plaza is about a 20 minute walk or a 4-5 sol taxi drive from the house. I teach online and as of now I haven't had problems teaching classes using the wifi, videos are also fast to load. I recommend this stay for the long termer or the one who passes by. From my experience, I am more than satisfied. Also, the carrot mermelade es muy delicioso.
My husband and I had a great stay with Adela and Manuel. They were so nice and accommodating, even with our limited Spanish! They both walked us into town on the first day we were there, which was very helpful. They also served a great breakfast every morning and let us stay until 7 pm on the day we left as we had a night bus. Definitely stay with them if you can!
We returned to Arequipa to stay at this “Accommodation” on September 17th 2013 after three days trekking in Colca Canyon. When making this booking in July we knew accommodation in Arequipa was scarce due to 75,000 additional visitors attending the towns “Mining Convention” . We saw the Pictures and great reviews of the property on the AirBnB website and booked. HOWEVER - THE ACCOMMODATION ALLOCATED, BORE NO RESEMBLANCE - To the photographs or reviews - BUT - I have taken many photographs to back up my complaint and show the reality. -
Three words describe this squalid place - DIS GUS TING.
Unfortunately, we arrived late, tired and dirty from trekking, and planned to leave early the following day, PLUS due to the conference there was no other alternative accommodation available. So we had no other option but to stay here.
In the “BEDROOM” - The paint was flaking off the ceiling - The white light switches were almost black with grime. - The ancient wall paper was shabby, peeling, grubby and stained. - The windows were streaked with so much dirt it was difficult to see through them. - The curtains were threadbare and dirty with mould. - Below the window the walls were damp, covered in mould and the wall paper was, peeling, stained and filthy with mould. - The sliding door to the “Wardrobe” should have been white but was stained black and brown and was rotting in the corner near the wall. It had White (er) patches where old pictures had been – emphasising how dirty it was.
THE BATHROOM, was obscene and revolting almost beyond words :- THE SHOWER had broken tiles, broken taps, other tiles were stained the brown colour of excrement, there was foul looking fungus in between the tiles. THE HAND BASIN nor the tiles surrounding it had not been cleaned and had a thick layer of slimy scum, there were hairs in the basin and the stench from the plug hole was putrid. The junction between the sink and stained tiles was full of mould and fungus. The taps were covered in what appeared to be toothpaste which had been spat out and not cleaned off . And one of the taps was taped up with grimy sellotape to prevent its use . But worst and most gross of all – in the soap dish was a sponge that was liberally covered in ( human) hairs. As was the half used bar of soap, - THE TOILET – had not been cleaned and was stained black / Brown.
I can only conclude, two possibilities:- We were dumped into a normally unused part of the house to maximise income during the conference. - Or that the owners are deliberately lying and misleading guests with false advertising.
For the price we paid, we did not expect “The Ritz” I have no problem with basic (clean) accommodation but this place was a feculent hovel that I would not have accommodated my dog in.
Adela and Manuel were extremely nice hosts. We stayed two days in their house and learned a lot from them. They gave us all necessary information, made us great breakfast and Manuel walked with us and showed us the center of Arequipa. Overall everything was perfect!
