Interaction with Guests
I travel to and from Mindo two to three times per year. We also have a chocolate making business in Michigan and I am often there. I am sorry if I don't get to meet you. Jose is there more often and Leslie manages the business in Mindo. She speaks both English and Spanish perfectly and she can help you with anything that you need. We also have other staff members who speak English and can help with any of your needs. ~Barbara
Our address is 9 de Octubre. Mindo. Although few people in Mindo know the names of the streets and there are no street signs. Anyone you ask (not tourists, but locals) will know where El Quetzal Chocolate Factory is. We are just two blocks from the main square in town and you can also follow signs or directions to Casa de Cecilia. There are a few information stations on the main drag in Mindo where people speak some English. We are walking distance to most things in Mindo.
The Kennedy bus line goes into Mindo from Quito or Guayaquil. Any bus to Los Bancos will pass Mindo, where you can get off and take a taxi down into Mindo. Take a taxi for $70-$100 from Quito, depending on where you are coming from. When you arrive in Mindo most things are walking distance from El Quetzal. There are plenty of taxis in town to get to the waterfalls, frog concert, butterfly gardens that are a little farther away.
We can call a taxi for you if you like, just let us know.
Other Things to Note

We only expect that you are quiet and respectful of others. We want you and other guests to have as pleasant of a stay as possible. We have not had any problems with any of our airbnb guests at all and don't expect any.
El Quetzam de Mindo was a great place to relax with delicious food and of course chocolate. There were no artesenal beers which was a little drag but not a problem. The chocolate tour was fascinatingly interesting and the staff had a wealth of knowledge to help on the treks I took around mindo
From the moment we arrived, the staff at the chocolate factory made us feel welcome. The room's view was fantastic, we slept well enjoying the sounds of the forest and little outside human noise. The food was delicious and we liked it so much that we actually had multiple meals there. Everyone really bent over backwards to help us find our way and to insure that our stay was a good one. I can't recommend this place enough!
I had a very pleasant stay at El Quetzal. This visit was more of a working retreat than a holiday. I needed a comfortable space and pleasant surroundings and that is exactly what I got. My hostess and the staff at El Quetzal couldn't have been more considerate, friendly and helpful.
The room was very tidy, with two comfortable beds (a double and a single) and plenty of storage space. The bathroom was well equipped with an endless supply of hot water. Soap and shampoo were replaced as needed.
Situated above El Quetzal's café, the room is located within five minutes of everything in Mindo. The café itself is spacious and very nicely appointed. It has very good internet (which extends to the room) and is a great place to either dine or work away on a laptop while enjoying the local coffee and tasty offerings. The food options were varied, and everything was fresh and well presented. The chocolate and cacao products were out of this world. Everyone should do the informative and yummy chocolate tour.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
This room was really nice. Good bed, good bathroom, cool balcony with hamac. The breakfast in the morning was great ! We had a very nice time.
My wife and I had an amazing time at El Quetzal. Even though we went during the wet season for our honeymoon, there was still so much to see. The chocolate factory tour was amazing!!! I never knew that chocolate starts off as a sweet fruit.
The room was perfect with a hammock on our balcony. Although most people like to vacation with their eyes, I like to vacation with my ears too. To lay in the hammock and just listen to the sounds of the Mindo Forest puts you at ease.
The food was GREAT! There's chocolate ingredients in and handful of their meals which was a new twist. Almost everyone at the El Quetzal speaks English, so no language barrier here if you haven't brushed up on your Spanish.
My wife overall enjoyed our time there seeing all the species of birds, butterflies and orchards. We highly recommend staying at El Quetzal!!!
