Interaction with Guests
I travel to and from Mindo two to three times per year. We also have a chocolate making business in Michigan and I am often there. I am sorry if I don't get to meet you. Jose is there more often and Leslie manages the business in Mindo. She speaks both English and Spanish perfectly and she can help you with anything that you need. We also have other staff members who speak English and can help with any of your needs. ~Barbara
Our address is 9 de Octubre. Mindo. Although few people in Mindo know the names of the streets and there are no street signs. Anyone you ask (not tourists, but locals) will know where El Quetzal Chocolate Factory is. We are just two blocks from the main square in town and you can also follow signs or directions to Casa de Cecilia. There are a few information stations on the main drag in Mindo where people speak some English. We are walking distance to most things in Mindo.
The Kennedy bus line goes into Mindo from Quito or Guayaquil. Any bus to Los Bancos will pass Mindo, where you can get off and take a taxi down into Mindo. Take a taxi for $70-$100 from Quito, depending on where you are coming from. When you arrive in Mindo most things are walking distance from El Quetzal. There are plenty of taxis in town to get to the waterfalls, frog concert, butterfly gardens that are a little farther away.
We can call a taxi for you if you like, just let us know.
Other Things to Note

We only expect that you are quiet and respectful of others. We want you and other guests to have as pleasant of a stay as possible. We have not had any problems with any of our airbnb guests at all and don't expect any.
Lovely place - friendly welcome, charming room with great views and comfy hammock on balcony from which to watch birds, people and the pretty views!
Distilled water on tap, great food and the free tour was interesting, entertaining and informative!
Great and would definitely stay again
Stay a few night in Mindo and I especially recommend stay at el quetzal! It's a lovely hotel. The rooms are clean and has everything you need (towels, shampoo, soap).
Well Mindo is a small town so restaurant and travel agencies are in walking distance from the hotel. Also the staff give you good advices about activities in and around Mindo.
At least the best the food!! The breakfast is incredible. I would say the best I had in Ecuador.
Oho and don't miss the chocolate tour, very informative and the brownie at the end is delicious.
Thanks Barbara and the friendly team for the nice stay a had at you place.
Communication was great and room was as expected & pictured. The room was above the restaurant and next to several others. It can be a bit loud when others are moving about outside the room, but that is not unusual in Ecuador.
The free breakfast was one of several choices from the menu and that was nice. The chocolate tour was indeed free and was interesting.
We loved staying at El Quetzal! Barbara and Jose were wonderful hosts, and made us feel very welcome. The helped us plan activities to do, such as a great bird watching tour. The room was very comfortable, the food was great and we really enjoyed the chocolate tour!
We were made feel welcomed from the very beginning. The entire staff was pleasant and cordial.
My friend and I had a fantastic time at el Quetzal and I've already recommended it to anyone who mentions going to Mindo. The town is absolutely beautiful and el Quetzal is a gem within it. Check in was easy and quick, the room was as described, and the treats (lava brownie) and drinks (brownie milkshake) were rich and amazing. The chocolate tour was fun, tasty, and informative as they're able to show the entire process.
Barbara accommodated our personal request for the room with the hammock, which was great for sitting outside to watch the clouds roll through the mountains. We had big plans to start exploring right away, but couldn't tear ourselves away and spent the first hour of our stay swinging, taking pictures, and soaking up the beautiful view.
