The upper story of our carriage house, The Springfield, is a home we created for ourselves while we renovated the main house on the property. It is sophisticated yet warm and cozy at the same time. You will enjoy your privacy inside or on the deck, and can look out at the beautiful trees which surround the property. It will be your oasis in which to relax from the outside world, yet only a 5 minute walk (on level ground) to the center of Mill Valley. If you feel more adventurous, you can explore the majestic nature of Cascade Canyon or Mt. Tam which begins just down the block.
The apartment is composed of a living room, open kitchen, bedroom, bathroom with glass-tiled European shower which is beautifully lit by a diffused glass window in the shower, and a deck off the bedroom. The bedroom has a queen size bed, feathertop mattress, and the linens are "second to none". It is outfitted with wireless internet and a modern AV system which includes digital cable, flat screen tv, and dvd/cd player. The kitchen has a gas stove and large refrigerator. Parking is always available right in front of the house.
We can direct you to local shops and restaurants in Mill Valley, Sausalito and beyond if you would like to explore. The opportunities for incredible dining experiences in the Bay Area are probably too numerous for your short stay, but you might want to explore some if you have time.
From the moment you arrive at our carriage house you will know that you've found a gem property with comfortable and tasteful furnishings, 5 star amenities, and the prime location in the heart of Mill Valley.
If you prefer a shorter stay (less than 3 night minimum), we can accomodate you with a supplemental cleaning fee.
We absolutely loved this charming cottage in Mill Valley. The setting was peaceful and serene but only a short easy walk to get to Sweetwater or the theatre in the middle of Mill Valley. We also walked up the Cascade Falls trail which is a short couple blocks away - though amazing giant redwoods. We also appreciated the treats our hosts had left for use in the kitchen! No need to run to the store that first night. Oh, the cottage includes a fabulous patio deck that was the perfect spot for coffee in the morning.
This backyard cottage is delightful and Joel, the host, is attentive who cares about your needs II suggested more updated kitchen things for cooking andI also thought the TV would be better in the living room rather than the bedroom. These suggestions in no way detracts from the great experience at this restful place. The neighborhood , a splendid walk to town and throughout the beautiful Redwood tree lined streets is spectacular. . It's peaceful, quiet and truly a refuge. It sits above the garage with 15 steps. Not a problem at all, Just to let you know in case stairs are not easy to negotiate. Many thanks to Joel, a truly wonderful host.
We had a wonderful stay at Joel and Jane's carriage house in Mill Valley. It was clean, cozy and comfortable, very well equipped, nicely decorated, and very peaceful. The location combined being near the redwoods and nice neighborhood and nature walks and also very close to town. The hosts are lovely, friendly people and very helpful with advice while also leaving us feel as alone as we wanted. I expect we'll be staying there again in the future. Their garden was exceptionally beautiful. Thank you to Jane and Joel.
Jane and Joel's place is lovely, and he was a pleasure to deal with. Will definitely rent his place again in the future.
I'm a frequent visitor to Mill Valley and Norcal and have stayed at a dozen places (from aibnb to top hotels) and it's pretty simple: if you're looking for a "steal" on lodging in the Bay Area, you should start your trip by booking Jane and Joel's place immediately.
Aside from being the sweetest hosts imaginable, you'll get one of the best values and coolest locations in Mill Valley....
The pictures truly don't do the place justice - the apartment is cozy and bright, thoughtfully decorated and perfectly maintained; the bathroom was spotless and of hotel caliber; the kitchen was tidy, compact, and had everything needed to make coffee or a full meal; linens were clean and like new; heat/AC worked (website hidden)/Satellite/Internet gear all up-to-date and fast. And the quiet location was a luxury of its own.
Other perks? The center of Mill Valley - boutiques, coffee, a market, restaurants, movie theater - is a super short walk down the street - or through the Redwoods. Parking is easy. San Francisco is only 15-20 minutes away and Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, and hiking are right out your door or a short drive. The location and home are the perfect launching point for exploring the Bay Area or even day tripping to wine country.
I could go on with the superlatives but I want to be able to book it on my next trip...highly recommended!
I had a great stay with Joel and Jane. Jane and Joel were very friendly but also respected my space (I only saw them a few times over the weekend). I mainly interacted with Joel and he was very responsive to all my requests. The cottage is well decorated and it is clear that the owners put a lot of thought and care in maintaining it. There were a number of nice small touches like stocking the kitchen with misc things (butter, olive oil, fruit, etc). The bed was very comfortable (I am picky about beds and often don’t sleep well in hotel beds). It is amazing located. Once I arrived I didn't need to get back into my car until it was time to leave. You are short walk into town for food or entertainment and only a block from Cascade road which leads to a number of hiking trails. I hope I get a chance to stay here again. Thank you Joel and Jane!
One note, I have AT&T wireless and the coverage in the cottage was very spotty. There were a number of places where I couldn't make calls. I was ok with that but could imagine it being a problem for others.
I was the guest of the Rosenbergs for 8 wonderful nights. They were most gracious and hospitable hosts - I couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome and attention to my needs throughout my stay. Their little apt. is charming, to say the least, and very comfortable. They've paid a lot of attention to details in their very attractively decorated apt. - it's a gem! I only hope that my glowing review, and I'm sure those of others to follow, won't make this special place too hard to book in the future!

We've lived on both coasts (NY and CA) and have been back in the San Francisco area for quite some time now. Mill Valley is a treasure but we love to travel (Europe, Asia and South America) to take in different cultures, meet people, and experience the local food, music, art, architecture and nature. This is a special location from which to explore the trails of Marin County or to drive a short distance to San Francisco, Berkeley or Napa Valley...and if you need suggestions don't hesitate to ask. We are just 100 meters from the Mill Valley Library, Old Mill Park and less than a 5 minute walk to Mill Valley Beer Works (check out the (email hidden) review), Peets, the Depot and entertainment (142 Throckmorton and The Sweetwater).
