  • Wonderful Fourth of July stay in Upcountry Maui. The Makai Cottage was well appointed with everything we needed. Nice bedding and towels. Enjoyed a BBQ on the lawn with the neighbors and watched the most spectacular sunset for the Fourth - Maui's own "fireworks". Perfect location far enough away on the mountain for relaxation away from crowds but close to a country store for wine and food, a farm stand, a cafe, a bistro, and a short drive to Pukalani, Makawao, Paia and Hookipa Beach. We will definitely be returning for another visit!

  • After beach stays in the past, we decided to try a month in Kula (at around 3,000 ft up Haleakala) to give ourselves a respite from heat/humidity of sea level. It worked! Perfect spot from which to access all points on the island and perfect place to end each day with the music of bird life, eye-popping views (bi-coastal and west island mountain views with city lights galore), very comfortable, cooler, way less humid nights (haven't slept like that in a long time), fresh breezes, and outdoor/umbrella/view breakfasts and dinners. We really nailed it. And hostess Anne did, too; the cottage is charming, with LOTS of windows in every room (including large bathroom) and lovely decks. Everything you could need for excursions is there (umbrella, beach chairs, beach towels, etc.). The cottage is very private, on a very large lawn where there is an umbrella table and bench for view enjoyment. Delightful stay and meeting the San Diego folks in the other cottage (a deliberate stroll away from the Tudor cottage) was an added bonus. Everyone on the property is happy there...a kind of home-away-from home commaraderie, if you want it (privacy is guaranteed if that is your choice; the Tudor cottage is situated to achieve that solitude). Additionally, we really enjoyed walking into "town" (about 3/4 of a mile along the road) to the general store and Kula Bistro (try their crab cakes eggs benedict!!!) We saw Anne 3-4 times when she checked in with everyone to make sure everything was OK and also corresponded with her when we needed ideas re: "secret" places to explore. Thank you, Anne! And big hugs to your beautiful girl, Queensland Heeler Spanky!

  • We enjoyed our stay in Kula on this gorgeous property for a month. We loved waking up to the sound of birds, and sometimes just silence. The property has beautiful views of both coastlines, the mountains, and Central Valley, and one feels totally relaxed in this environment. The cottage was well-equipped and very comfortable, particularly the beds. Nice to have a washer and dryer and a clothesline for hanging out wet swimsuits. Anne, our host, was very friendly and accommodating. She was available to take care of any needs that came up. We'll likely be back soon. Nancy and Richard

  • We loved the cottage in Kula. It is a beautiful drive down to Kahului or Kihei and Kula has it's own amenities if you don't want to drive. You have to eat at Kula Bistro - fabulous ! The cottage had everything we needed, the sheets were so gorgeous and the flowers and welcome basket were such a nice touch. Having a washer / dryer was a big plus. The views are great, the privacy was awesome ! Anne was terrific, always had suggestions and information for us. She's a terrific lady and it was a pleasure to meet her.

  • This cottage is AT LEAST as gorgeous as the photos. It does exactly what it says on the tin: a beautifully decorated and well appointed house, quiet and private, with a SPECTACULAR view from the bedroom, bathroom and huge lanai. It's a great location, well placed for everything you could need: a short walk to local shops and bistros and a short drive to just about everything else. Anne really pulled out all the stops to have the place sparkling and ready for us on our arrival on Christmas Day, which was so good of her. She even laid on stunning fresh flowers and a welcome basket of local treats and wine, and even some lovely christmas decorations! Our stay was just magical: waking up every morning to a view of rainbows over both coasts of Maui, having Kona coffee on the lanai and listening to the exotic bird calls in the trees. Sigh. I'd still be there if I could!

  • Just a great Upcountry cottage. We were looking for a cooler getaway from our base in Lahaina and this worked out great for us. Excellent location walking distance to the great Kula Bistro and Kula Country Farms, short drive to Kula Lodge and Grandma's Coffee House, and a short drive up to Poli Poli Springs State Park for forest hiking at 6000+ feet elevation as well as to Haleakala. And great access to the Winery and Ulupalakua ranch. Also close enough to Kahului for us to drive down to catch Los Lobos at the MACC.

Quiet location. Grounds were wonderful - nice to walk out your door and not into a resort complex. 2 full bathrooms to go along with the 2 bedrooms was also really nice if you're sharing, plus the 2 lanai's with great views.

Having washer/dryer was great as well (its around the corner on the lower level lanai). No dishwasher, but we ate out a lot anyway.

Wish we could have spent a week.

  • We stayed six nights at the cottage. Communication with Anne was easy and very friendly.
The house itself is charming and surrounded by a spacy garden. The view is spectacular. The interior is complete but not really new. In particular, the fridge is quiet noisy.
The location of the cottage is generally great being close to Heleakala and some hiking trails. We did some mountainbiking and for that purpose the position is ideal.
The only downside is the proximity of the house to the highway. Although there is quiet a lot of distance between highway and the cottage we heard every single passing car. Traffic starts about 6:00 am, so you should be prepared to get up early.
Thanks to Anne for the welcoming basket and the help provided.

  • The Tudor Cottage in Kula is at LEAST as great looking as in the photos... Not sure the photos show what a spectacular panoramic distant view of the ocean view you have there, and the pheasants on the property. Anne, the owner, has taken care of every sensitive detail and appointment in the cottage, and provided us with great hospitaity and advice on where to go to enjoy all. The house and area are peaceful and there is much toexperience upcountry. We are now combining this uniqure experience of Hawaii with a beachfront stay. Do yourself a fvor, and rent at Anne's place!!!! Stefani and Don from NY

  • We spent 4 nights in this lovely, quiet cottage. The cottage was charming and contained all that we might need. Our friendly hostess, Anne, joined us during our visit for a lovely afternoon's drink. Together we enjoyed the excellent bottle of red wine she had bestowed on us. We were also greeted with fresh flowers, fresh fruit and a gorgeous view all the way down the mountainside to the double shoreline linking eastern and western Maui. We would recommend this place to fellow travelers who prefer to drive a little further for a unique venue. Sincerely, Sharon and Hickory

  • Wow! The Tudor Cottage is amazing! Really, really gorgeous, lovely and comfortable antiques throughout, not a single detail missed in the restoration. There are so many pluses to this property it's hard to remember them all, but here's a start. It has a ton of extra's (ice chest, beach mats, laundry soap, fully stocked bathroom including soap, Qtips, hair dryer, fully stocked kitchen including fresh coffee beans and a grinder, some condiments, coffee filters, sugar, etc. it just goes on.) In addition there were some beautiful fresh tropical flowers on the table and a basket with wine and local treats (really?!? who does this?!) It has two movable radiator heaters to take the chill off the mornings (it is up in the hills) which makes it all very cozy. Super quiet on lots of private acerage. Fantastic view, fireplace, amazing stone work and wood everywhere. Grab this property if you can, we loved it! We will definately be back next trip to Maui.
