Please come to our secluded island home on beautiful Great Keppel Island – we have a tropical island home inside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in Queensland. We are at Svendsen's Beach on the quiet side of Great Keppel Island.

The space

This place is nothing at all like a motel, being wonderfully “islandish”, so there are a few things that guests need to bring.

Svendsen’s Beach Information for Guests.
If you miss the only daily ferry to the island or if the ferry times do not suit you, and you would like a really special experience, you might like to contact Shane Swanson, Pilot Heli-Central (EMAIL HIDDEN) (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN), to discuss getting a helicopter transfer, which costs $270 for 2 people from Emu Park on the mainland to here. (If you factor in a night’s motel accommodation and the ferry transfers and the cost of transfers to our place once on the island – it can work out cheaper, depending on the cost of the motel! plus an exciting way to arrive and depart! And may be more convenient for your onward travel arrangements. It’s worth inquiring about!)

I will meet you at the ferry and transfer you to our place if you come by ferry. The boat transfer from the ferry beach to our place takes about 50 minutes.

The transfer costs are a very reasonable $15 each way per person with luggage. If you wish to walk the 1.5 hour (6 km) walk over to our place, then I can collect your luggage and only charge you for the luggage transfer at $7.50 each way per person. If you walk or boat here, with your own luggage, there is no transfer fee!

There is every kind of holiday available here, from totally active to
totally quiet and relaxing - and every kind in between. There is lovely
walking, swimming and pristine beaches.

Please check all times with the ferry, as there can sometimes be changes.

The price includes bed linen. (Please bring your own towels). I meet the
ferry on the main beach and bring guests to our place. We have limited space in our small pickup vehicle or boat, so ask that guests only bring the necessities.

No large eskies please! We can’t lift them or fit them into our boat.

Also included in the price is all cooking equipment and gas, fridge
facilities and a truly lovely location. The tent bungalows have timber decks and furniture. The house has a large deck overlooking two bays.

Please bring a bit of cash - we have no electronic banking out here. We hire out snorkel gear for $10 per day or $20 per stay, irrespective of length of stay. We also hire out wetsuits for $10 per day or $20 per stay, and kayaks can be used if you pay the $20 per person safety gear surcharge, which covers replacement of life jackets, paddles, maintenance etc.

Here is some food and other info - I know that you may already know all this and lots beside, but I just send it to everyone so that they don't get here and say "Whoops! We forgot sunscreen", or milk or whatever.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you how to plan a food order for a few days,
but it is a bit like a yacht trip, because there is absolutely NOTHING
available here on the island except good potable drinking water.

So, Hot drinks - tea, coffee, milk, sugar, Milo or anything else that you
like. Just get small amounts out of your home supply and put them in plastic bags to save you buying and carrying unnecessary groceries.

Breakfasts - porridge? cereal? eggs, bacon, toast, bread - marmalade?
Lunches - sandwich ingredients?
Dinners - You can cook in pots and pans (supplied) on top of the gas top
stove or you can BBQ - so can make spaghetti Bolognese, or curry and rice,
or Thai Laksa-type dinners, or you can bring sausages, chops, steaks, etc. A cooked or smoked chook makes the basis for a good meal or two. You'll need a splash of olive oil to stop vegies sticking to foil or pan. Also, a roll of paper towels can be useful. And a plastic container for leftovers.

A torch and spare batteries.

Any medications, asthma puffers, a couple of bandaids and a bit of pain
relief. (antihistamines if you are allergic to bees or insects)

Sunscreen and insect repellent - (Mozzies and sandies not too bad at present but this can change quickly with a rain shower) Mozzie coils.

Clothing; - good walking shoes, flip-flops/thongs are great for slipping on and off, socks, shorts, tee-shirts, long sleeved shirts, track suit pants and top,HAT, bathers, something warm for nights. Rain jackets or umbrella - just in case.

Towels, - bring beach towel and shower towel.

Eco-friendly dishwashing liquid, small quantity.

Water - we have enough, if we are all sensible, to survive on happily. We
have both rain water for drinking and showering in, and a teeny bit of damwater for toilet. (we budget 42 litres per person per day of rainwater. It is really enough!) But of course, it isn't really enough for our guests to
do laundry.

So if you can bring a couple of tea-shirts, so that you don't have to wash
clothes when here, that will also help.

Please do not bring huge eskies or 4WD fridges - we have a fridge here which is more than adequate for up to a 7 night stay, and don't have the capacity to transport your large esky or fridge around to our side of the island.

Don't forget to bring a book or a couple of magazines to read in bed!

If you could send me a quick confirmation that you've received this - just a sentence, that would be great! Cheers.

Until soon,
(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) – Svenden’s Beach, please feel free to friend and check out photos etc.
