About This Listing
This is a private studio apartment and not just a room. It has a complete kitchen, full bath, sitting/dining area, A/C, TV, WiFi and a shared swimming pool. There is a queen size bed and we add a single bed when there is a third guest.
Our property sits on a hillside overlooking a lush green valley and the beautiful Pacific ocean below. It is very private and secure with a gated entrance and is still less than a 10 minute walk to town.
If El Rancho isn't available for your specific dates, please view our other 4 apartments that are spread out on the property. Simply click on our photograph and than look on the lower left side of the new page to see them.
This beautiful large 1 room efficiency is located over the open patio below, allowing it to catch refreshing ocean breezes and give you some of the most amazing sunsets ever!! It is very spacious and comfortable with a queen size bed, sofa, chairs and it's own bathroom and kitchenette. You also have your own private balcony, where you can relax and watch the boats move in and out of the harbor. For those rare days when the breezes and ceiling fan aren't enough just kick back and turn on the air conditioning, or go downstairs with your favorite tropical drink and cool off in our refreshing pool, or just doze off in the hammock.
When you do pull yourself away from our wonderful location, it's only a 10 minuet walk to downtown Quepos. There you will find restaurants, gift shops, clothing stores, pharmacy's, live music and more. You will also find taxi's and buses readily available. You can also visit our local farmers market on Friday and Saturday, where you can purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods and more. They set up right along the ocean's edge, only a 5 minute walk from our property .
We have many beautiful beaches in the area, including our world famous Manuel Antonio National Park. There are many other activities here such as, white water rafting, sunset cruises, surfing, horseback riding on the beach, world famous sport fishing and much more. We will be glad to help arrange your tours in sunny Costa Rica!!! We can also arrange transportation to and from San Jose for you.
Douglas and I live on the property as well and we are always available to help in any way to make your vacation a memorable one.

This Airbnb stay could have been better. I've stayed at other places on Airbnb and have had great experiences, however this was an exception. Marta was welcoming and the proximity of the jungle to our front door was incredibly enjoyable. There were a few things that were discomforting about this stay. The TREK to the location is horrendous. It is an uphill mountain climb. We didn't have much in terms of luggage but we were covered in sweat by the time we reached the location. Marta should be honest about that mountain climb to those visiting. You cannot walk up the mountain without getting winded and becoming a sweaty mess. In addition, the directions to the place aren't entirely helpful, nor are they accurate. We only found the location because of helpful neighbors who probably pitied us. The other thing I was unimpressed with was the housekeeping. The room was entered by "staff" only to shut off the air conditioning. Our towels were hung outside to air-dry. If "staff" wants to enter the room to shut off the air conditioning don't pretend to be cleaning the room. Just tell us you will be shutting the air off. Also, it wouldn't hurt to put a few water bottles in the fridge for guests considering the monstrous hike up the hill to arrive at the location. If I was to visit the city again I would probably stay at the Best Western. Marta also states that guests have the ability to make free calls to the U.S., this is only if you want to BORROW her cell phone. How would I find her at 10:00 PM to do such a thing? I don't think she should state she offers this feature if you can't do it from your own room; it's just midleading. The Internet moves at a snail's pace, I couldn't even use it while I was there. I would NOT stay here again.
I stayed at "El Rancho" with my girlfriend for 4 nights, and it was wonderful. Marta was very friendly and always available when we needed her. It was also nice that every taxi we took knew the house by its name (Casa Pargo). If you are on a serious budget and are planning on cooking most of your meals, I would look elsewhere as the kitchen wasn't sufficient for preparing full meals (You _could_ but it would be a challenge). However, the refrigerator was very spacious and held leftovers from the various, inexpensive, restaurants nearby :-) The sound of monkeys on the balcony woke us up a few times, but that is a good thing in my opinion. If a monkey waking you up makes you mad, you have no soul and should vacation elsewhere. It seemed to be a very authentic Costa Rican experience, and overall, the place was amazing and I would absolutely stay there again.
We only had the pleasure of staying at Marta and Douglas' amazing place for one day due to the Turriabla volcano cancelling our initial flight. Marta put us in touch with someone in San Jose where we were able to get a reasonably priced place to stay so we didn't have to drive to Quepos at 2am after a long day of traveling. Marta was there when we arrived and was very welcoming. The apartment was perfect with a great view over the marina from the balcony. The only thing I would change is if we could have stayed a few more days!
Our stay at El Rancho apartment was incredible. Martha was very attentive from the moment we arrived.
The property overlooks the Quepos marina, providing spectacular sunsets and views. El Rancho especially has a great view of the marina and offers a lot of privacy making it great for a couple. There is also a self serve bar and pool on the property, which we really enjoyed during one of the days. Oh, and there are cute squirrel monkeys that hang out in the surrounding trees, which was a great way to be welcomed to Costa Rica.
The property is on a steep hill and we drove a mid-size car which made it a bit tricky getting up the hill, but Martha provided us a map with directions that helped.
I would highly recommend this spot and would book it again in a heartbeat.
Marta greeted us at her lovely place after we'd tackled the steep slope up to it. We had a car, but if you don't, the $3 for a taxi up to the house will be money well spent!
A lovely warm welcome was given, with lots of information about the place (they rent out a few apartments there), and the surrounding area. Marta was really helpful throughout the stay with any questions we had, and made us feel really welcome.
The room was basic, cosy, with a small kitchen attached, as well as a balcony, which gave amazing views out over the Pacific. The bathroom is quite small, so if you're claustrophobic, maybe choose somewhere else! But if not, this is a lovely place at a great price to put your head down, as well as being within easy reach of the wonders of Manuel Antonio National Park.
The added benefit of a small pool and a little bar makes it a great place to relax tired legs after long days!
Great location, a short walk from the main street/town center. Marta and Doug bent over backwards to make sure that we had no trouble finding their property. Marta was always available when we had questions. The room was very clean, and even though we were only there for 3 nights, they came and cleaned the room and changed the sheets when we were out. Would highly recommend staying with Marta and Doug!

About the Host, Marta And Douglas
I have a very outgoing personality and love to dance, cook and laugh. I enjoy meeting and helping people. I love to travel throughout my country and other countries as well. My husband Douglas and I have been married for 25 years and have two daughters, Bianca 23 and Sandy 18. Both girls attend the university in San Jose. Both Douglas and I were born and raised in Quepos and we think that with all of the lovely areas in Costa Rica, that the Quepos/Manuel Antonio are is the most beautiful.
I like to dance and cook as well. Although I am not as outgoing as my wife, I do enjoy meeting other people. I have worked for the national electric company "ICE for 27 years as a maintenance supervisor. I like to travel and enjoy seeing other areas of our beautiful country. We slowly built on our property over the years and enjoy sharing it with others. Now with the pool and rancho completed I think we are finally finished.
