The Space

Greetings! Brandi and Greg here - New Orleans and Minneapolis natives, respectively - we are both owners of our unique house we purchased two months before Katrina when it was a 50 person boarding house.

We open up our space as we enjoy meeting like-minded people, and, honestly, as a way to keep our beloved (albeit, very large) home and continue the ongoing restoration of it while our culturally rich city blossoms and morphs around us.

We hope to attract easy going, like-minded people who want to experience the artistic grandeur of our home we've restored.

The reviews of the house say a lot. But I'll tell you a little bit about us...

This Private Suite is available for a few months this Fall. It has a private entrance, if desired. Originally it was three bedrooms (two have desks and can be offices, living rooms etc.)

It is a charming, private space on the second floor in our restored 1880's Victorian home ...
12' Ceilings,
Wood Floors,
Private Antique Clawfoot Tub/shower,
Queen Pillow Top bed
great light from Floor-to-Ceiling Windows

It also has full kitchen and luxurious bath.

The bedroom accommodates guests well -
a flat screen tv (w/cable) and Wifi.

Although the house was not flooded, the house was restored by its two on-site owners shortly after Hurricane Katrina as a cooperative house of artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, photographers and designers. Since then everyone has moved into houses of their own, etc. and Airbnb now enables us to keep - and continue to share - our beloved home.

Our goal was to restore the house back to its original grandeur with its gorgeous 3 foot wide gold leaf medallion on the bedroom ceiling and hand-carved mantle.

It is a large home with a rich history as being at one time the New Orleans Maternity Home for Unwed Mothers.

There is a large wrap around porch in the front and a tropical courtyard with a pond in the back. We have three friendly dogs – two white, one brown – and an outdoor cat. You might not get to meet all of them as they travel with us.

We welcome like-minded people who want to enjoy our cultural city! So, stay with us in our piece of New Orleans history!

Guest Access

You will have access to common areas of the house, a phonograph, as well as laundry facilities and a full kitchen.

You will also have a private bathroom and a private kitchenette - your own private suite.

You can enjoy the wrap around porch to watch the carriages clippity-clop by on their way to the Quarter, or perhaps lazily swing in the hammock by the pond under the bougainvillea in the tropical courtyard.

There are many wondrous spots in our home, so you will have access to much more than the Private Suite.

Interaction with Guests

My partner will be in town to answer any questions. I will provide a list of my favorite things to do in the city, which may help since there is so much to do in Nola...

The Neighborhood

I love the Lower Garden District's proximity to both Uptown and Downtown. And the diversity is amazing. It retains the charm that we love about New Orleans.
We are *centrally* located in New Orleans, just off the Mississippi River, blocks from Coliseum Square Park. It is 4 blocks from historic St. Charles Avenue and Mardi Gras Parades as well as 10 minute walk to the Convention Center and a short 15 minute walk through the Warehouse District to the French Quarter.

Many *Restaurants, Bars and Coffee Shops* are just blocks away, such as Annunciation, Cochon, Butcher, Emeril's Delmonico, Emeril's, Eleven Seventy-Nine, American Sector, Maya Latin Cuisine, Miyako Sushi & Hibachi, Irish House, Surrey's, Blue Plate Cafe, Mojo Coffee, Bridge Lounge, Circle Bar, Avenue Pub, Juan's Flying Burrito, Appoline and Slice Pizza among many others.

Museums: The WWII Museum, Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Contemporary Art Center are a close 5 minute walk as is the gallery rich, Julia Street Arts District.

Live Music: Howlin' Wolf, the Republic, Tipitina's and the Rusty Nail are easy access to live music and Frenchman St. is just on the other side of the French Quarter (Spotted Cat, DBA, Three Muses).

The Superdome (Saints) and New Orleans Arena (Hornets) are a 20 minute walk from our front door.

Shopping is convenient with the Shops at Canal Place, Riverwalk, and Magazine Street all within short walking distance.

Getting around

Bikes are a great way to see the city; I may have one you can use. Inquire when you book.

The St. Charles *Streetcar* line (a few blocks away) can take you Uptown to the Garden District, Carrollton, Tulane and Loyola Universities, and the Audubon Zoo and connects on Canal Street to the Marigny, City Park and the City Park cemeteries.
Cruise Ship terminals are a minute away (you use to see them from the window!). We're only 20 minutes from the airport.

The Bus Stop is on the corner and street parking is available.

Cabs are a'plenty.

Other Things to Note

We have ample street parking, if you need it.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Brandi was highly responsive and helpful, while being completely non intrusive. She invites her guests into her home and readily makes them feel at home. This was really an ideal stay for me-- the house was very eclectic, funky and interesting, and it was only a short walk to the Convention Center. Ready access to many other fun parts of the city. I absolutely would stay here again on a future visit to NOLA. I highly recommend this listing!

  • I would highly recommend staying at Brandi's. She's a generous, kind and thoughtful host. The house is also wonderful, charming and perfect for experiencing New Orleans. It's only a 10-15 minute walk to the French Quarter and if you get the taxi back at night it's only 5-6 dollars. Highly recommend it!

  • We definitely recommend staying at this absolutely beautiful home! It's completely picturesque and in a very convenient location. We were in town for the Jazz Fest and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The bedroom, bathroom, and other rooms in the house are covered in stunning art and decorative items. It's obvious that Brandi has poured a lot of love and work into her home. The house is within walking distance of many of the Garden District hot spots and is safely walkable to the downtown area during the day (but just a quick cab ride away at night). We didn't have much of a chance to spend time with Brandi, but she answered all of our questions and provided helpful tips when we did see her. It was a very stress-free, comfortable stay. Definitely don't miss out on staying here if you're visiting New Orleans!

  • My wife and I had a very nice time at this unique Victorian. Brandi and Greg are welcoming and knowledgeable hosts. We had tea in the garden in the morning and slept like babies in the comfortable bed at night. Brandi creates some really fantastic jewelry and "found object" art that is on display throughout the house. Another resident displays some of her killer photography. Had a great stay.

  • An excellent home base when in town for conferences.

    Response from Brandi:

Actually, we have TWO A/C units - one for each floor.

In New Orleans it hasn't been this cold this late in the year since 1955. It is the beginning of April and there are 30 degree temps. in the North with snow storms which delayed a guest last night from Minneapolis.

I asked if everything was ok and if you were comfortable. I would have hoped you would have said something. And the down comforter is there only because I like the weight of it.

I did put the A/C on but the windows were open in the room and since you were so private, and seemed to be fine, I did not go in to close them.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Oh, and we have two units for heat, too, and a brand new compressor for this floor.

  • Easiest five stars I've ever given! Brandi's pace, a beautiful, artsy home in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans, was a perfect fit for us during our road trip. The bedroom and bathroom were charming, elegant and comfortable. We had all of the quiet, calm, and privacy we could have wanted.

Brandi was a warm and welcoming host. Friendly, helpful, and mindful of our needs. She let us lock our bikes in her private backyard canopy, too. We loved the easy ride into the French Quarter - made it perfect for exploring the energy/excitement of New Orleans and then retreating to our own private, luxurious space.

Five stars all the way! Would recommend this to anyone.

  • First of all, Brandi was extremely helpful and friendly throughout the whole process! She and her housemates were very welcoming during Noah's stay. Brandi even alerted us right away when the city of New Orleans had some trouble with the water lines.

The house was unique, Noah says "funky and artsy" and he loved it! You're lucky to find a place that's got all the beauty of Victorian architecture, but all the cleanliness and convenience of a modern home.

Brandi's home would definitely be my first choice if I need to arrange travel to New Orleans again, and I hope I get the opportunity to stay there myself sometime!

  • Great stay here! The place is really charming and the people are extremely friendly. It is SO close to the convention center and was very convient. I highly recommend this place.

  • Brandi was an absolute gem! She kept me informed and helped me with where to go by giving me some websites before arrival. I was a bit skeptical at first because it was my first air bnb experience. But upon arrival I felt comforted and by the end of trip didn't want to leave! She left a note and some snacks when we got there so I immediately felt welcome! The house was gorgeous, breathtaking in fact. It is surrounded by beautiful art everywhere you turn! The bed was so comfortable I'm surprised I even got out! Now, I made it my goal to mention all the tid bits I was looking for when I researched where to stay! 1.) It is a walkable distance to the French quarter, about 15 minutes. Along the way you pass a few bars, restaurants, landmarks, and pretty scenery. 2.) If you want to get a taxi from Bourbon or Harrahs it's only 7-10 bucks!! 3.) I felt safe walking to and from Brandi's wherever I went (which was usually the French quarter). 4.) They're normal people! Very trustworthy and sweet. Their dogs/cat are adorable too! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I already miss it!! :)

Awe! You guys are the sweetest. It was great to have you! And I'm so glad your stay was what you were looking for, plus cheap crawfish and a Hornets game! Yea! You guys take care. B

  • My boyfriend and I stayed with Brandi while in town for a conference. The house is ideally situated near the convention center and also happens to be near some really excellent food (esp. Cochon & Cochon's Butcher). Brandi is a sweetheart who was a thoughtful host throughout our stay, always making sure the temperature in the room was just right and she even dropped off some earplugs for us to wear to sleep during the construction currently going on all hours of the night nearby in preparation for the upcoming superbowl festivities. Her housemates, whom we met briefly during our stay, were also welcoming and friendly, and the system set up for picking up/dropping off keys was simple and helped make our stay as smooth as possible. We highly recommend staying at Brandi's!

Greg, my business partner, and I own and live in an artistic Victorian home in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans - a neighborhood with great diversity. We are positioned conveniently between Uptown and Downtown living. If you want to do a little research on what to do in the city ahead of time, I suggest going to searching gambitweekly and noladefender. Oh and Nola dot....(they hide sites) We have a grand old house, complete with a relaxing parlor (with vinyl records), front porch, courtyard, pond, raised gardens, hammock... We are walking distance to the Art District, French Quarter, Street Car Line, Convention Center, Cruise Ships, Uptown and beyond. I love meeting new people with an artistic or cultural passion and I adore the city from which I hail (and want you to, too!). I have my art studio here and my business partner is a graphic designer and musician. We restored the home from an almost blighted state to showcase its grand architectural details - uncovering 13 foot coved ceilings and original plaster medallions. We both split our time living here and travelling with our beloved pups. I work as an artist greatly inspired by New Orleans. If you are interested, you can find more about my work and house by looking up The Waregarden Studio. I love traveling; I have been to Europe several times and can't wait to carry the adventures further. I have lived between Nola, Houston and New York. I adore classic films and art, in its many forms. Oh - they ask for a motto. Well, I guess it is have a well-meaning heart and treat others as you would like to be (email hidden)d maybe follow the rabbit hole if that's what calls to you! Ciao for now! Brandi
