Private, Downtown & River Arts

House - Private room · Choctaw St, Asheville, NC 28801, United States

The Space

Simple, clean and comfy w/ FULL-sized bed, private bath, good shower, fridge, coffee-maker, micro-wave & wireless internet. You'll have your own private entrance and there is plenty of parking. Breakfast is on your own, but why eat in your room when Foodtopia awaits you?

We are LGBTQ and straight friendly.

Our home is an urban micro-farm-in-the-making. We are an easy walk or bike to the River Arts District (less than 1/2 mile) and Downtown (less than a mile). You can bike to West Asheville (less than 2 miles) or UNCA (about 3 miles). We're also really close to Biltmore Village and the entrance to the Biltmore Estate (less than 2 miles).

Pet friendly for dogs with well-behaved humans**. We do ask that you bring some sort of Crate or Cage if the dog will be left alone. We also ask for a 10.00 per day pet/cleaning fee.

We love Asheville & love to help others love it too. We're happy to offer guidance and suggestions or to leave you to have your own experience. Check out our guidebook for this listing.

Don't be surprised to hear lovely mandolin music while you're here -- maybe some fiddle and guitar too. Bobby is a professional musician. But we're quiet in the morning!

This room is not air-conditioned. It has a ceiling fan and a regular fan. It maintains a relatively constant cool temp because it is in our finished (and mildew-free) basement.

Our place is simple and affordable but with the added bonus of a private bath and private entrance. You will be welcome and comfortable here.

(**A note for visitors with dogs: We love dogs. Absolutely love 'em. When you arrive there will likely be a moment of excitement when your dog meets our dog, Minnie. Expect barking and sniffing. It's a good idea to let your dog have a walk across the street after traveling and the excitement of meeting another dog in a new place. If your dog has never stayed in a crate before this won't be a good place to get him or her used to it. Try it at home first. Thanks!

Interaction with Guests

You'll be pretty self-sufficient and welcome to make your self at home in your space. Text us if you need anything or just knock on the front door.

  • I had an enjoyable 2 night stay with Michelle & Bobby in Asheville. The hosts were welcoming and respectful but I only met them twice during my stay since I was sightseeing for much of my stay. Michelle was welcoming when I arrived with advice on where to go and eat and provided travel information in the guest room. The compact guest room is clean and located in the basement of the home with its own private entrance and the home is a conveient mile or so from a main street in downtown Asheville with restaurants & bars. A private bathroom is just outside the guest room which has a table and a mni fridge to store beverages. On the evening of my 2d night, Bobby was jamming upstairs so I herard the pleasant strains of mandolin music which was neat. I would definitely recommend that friends and family consider staying with Michelle & Bobby if they want an experience of living in the area when visitng Asheville.

  • When leisure travel is planned I want a clean comfortable room that is in close proximity to the things I want to do and see. Michelle & Bobby's room fits that bill perfectly. You can easily be downtown, in the middle of the River Arts District, or The Biltmore in less than a 5 minute drive.

Bobby is a professional musician so as he handed me the key and welcomed me he was loading his instruments into he car and heading to Columbia, SC. Michelle is an artist and her work hangs in the room and bath they provide.

The bed is comfy, the bathroom clean and functional. They provide plenty of towels and linens and the closet space in adequate for two. The mini fridge, coffee pot, and microwave were clean and ready to go. Michelle provides a few utensils, cloth napkins and coffee mugs. Asheville is full of natural and coop groceries so stop by one your way in for coffee, creamer, and a few snacks you might need. They are just a few blocks from great cafes and coffee shops and also close to McCormick Field, The Gray Eagle Music hall. If beer is your fancy, Green Man and Burial breweries are close by with French Broad Chocolate Factory and tasting room between those two great beer halls.

This is a great stay for a price that is fair for the room provided. Michelle and Bobby will see me again!

  • This crash pad was perfect for my one-night stopover in Asheville. The room has a separate, private entrance and its own bathroom and is located off the homeowner's basement laundry room, so privacy is excellent. Michelle was welcoming and friendly, but gave me my space, which was what I wanted. Coming and going was simple, I had my own key. The location was very practical, proximal both to downtown Asheville and to Biltmore Estate. I had my own fridge and coffeemaker; I would have been comfortable staying here for several days if that had been the case.

  • Loved our stay in Asheville with Michelle and her husband. They were very welcoming and definitely wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

  • The room is nice sized and clean. The bed comfortable and the private entrance was great. I was able to come and go without feeling like was intruding. The hosts provided me with a space heater to take the chill off, which it did, but the outlets were a bit shaky. The outlet sparked, when trying to get the plug for the heater and my cell phone charger to stay in place. If you like banjo music, you might be lulled to sleep by the sound of it coming from upstairs.. I liked it!!

  • Great little spot in a perfect location to get around Asheville. Our stay was short but overall it was just what we needed to apartment hunt in Asheville. Michelle and Bobby are very nice and even though we didn't get to interact much, they seemed very willing to help with any questions.

  • Michelle was very friendly and gave good advice on restaurants and parts of the city to explore. The room was tidy and comfortable, and the direct access via a separate door was a nice bonus.

  • Fantastic location, really lovely private suite, and best of all, Michelle and Bobby are friendly and know Asheville inside and out. Calling this place our home for the week really made our vacation.

About
Bobby and Michelle enjoy a a large and wonderful community. We live with our super-cute dog, Minnie. (Pearl, the lab you see in our picture, passed away a couple of years ago.) Bobby is a musician who plays mandolin, fiddle, guitar. You can check out his music by Googling Virginia Dare Devils. (The website won't appear in this listing if you haven't reserved the space) You can also usually catch him live at the Monday night jam at the Emerald Lounge or the Thursday night bluegrass jam at Jack of the Wood. Michelle has two businesses. She's a Celebrant and a Consultant for social profit businesses. A Celebrant is a ceremony specialist. She's also an ordained Inter-faith Minister. ( So if you want to get married while you're here, She can help you out with that too! Find out more about that and the other types of ceremonies I help people create by googling Asheville Celebrant. My other business is Social Profit Strategies, which supports social enterprise businesses and non-profit organizations with development, fund-raising, capacity building and marketing and promotions. Michelle is passionate about urban sustainability and she's creating an urban micro-farm and food forest here at our home. Spring is here so we've starting planting and amending the soil. We love to hike and swim, be with our friends and neighbors. Bobby likes to play tennis. Michelle enjoys sewing and yoga. We love our town so we're happy to give you tips and directions or just leave you to your own devices. Look forward to meeting you in person! Happy Day! Bobby and Michelle
