We are LGBTQ and straight friendly.
Our home is an urban micro-farm-in-the-making and a land partner in Patchwork Urban Farms. We are an easy walk or bike to the River Arts District (less than 1/2 mile) and Downtown (less than a mile). You can bike to West Asheville (less than 2 miles) or UNCA (about 3 miles). We're also really close to Biltmore Village and the entrance to the Biltmore Estate (less than 2 miles).
Pet friendly for dogs with well-behaved humans (**see notes below re: dogs). We do ask that you be prepared to to take your dog with you when you go out. We also ask for a 10.00 per day pet/cleaning fee.
We love Asheville & love to help others love it too. We're happy to offer guidance and suggestions or to leave you to have your own experience. Check out our guidebook for this listing.
This room is not air-conditioned. It has a ceiling fan and an oscillating fan. It maintains a relatively constant cool temp because it is in our finished (and mildew-free) basement. People say they sleep very comfortably.
Our place is simple and affordable but with the added bonus of a private bath and private entrance. You will be welcome and comfortable here.
(**A note for visitors with dogs: I love dogs. Absolutely love 'em. When you arrive there will likely be a moment of excitement when your dog meets our dog, Minnie. Expect barking and sniffing. It's a good idea to let your dog have a walk across the street after traveling and the excitement of meeting another dog in a new place. If your dog has never stayed in a crate before this won't be a good place to get him or her used to it. Try it at home first. I prefer you not leave your dog here while you're gone. They tend to feel stressed in a strange place, hearing strange noises. Thanks!
You'll have your own private entrance and there is plenty of parking right out front. I usually greet guests but if for some reason I can't be at home when you need to check in, I can tell you where I keep the key.
Interaction with Guests
You'll be pretty self-sufficient and welcome to make your self at home in your space. Text me if you need anything or just knock on the front door.
The South-side neighborhood is on the south-west fringes of downtown so it's easy to get most anywhere in Asheville. I love the urban stream right across the street, the proximity to the river and how it's perfectly situated to be a leading area for urban sustainability and urban agriculture.
I have to admit that public transportation is not amazing in Asheville. It exists and you can get around on it but it's nothing to brag about yet.
However, we are becoming a very bicycle-friendly town. Green ways are being developed in the the whole city and county for walking and biking.
Please park on the street. There's a street light right at the mailbox. I've never had any problems with cars parked on the street though you should, of course, lock your car.
I don't provide breakfast but there is a coffee maker and fridge so you can feel at home. You can walk to coffee at Clingman Cafe in about 10 minutes. One of my favorite breakfast places is Over Easy on Broadway. Green Sage, also on Broadway, is great too.
There is a hair-dryer but you should bring your own toiletries.
If you bring your pet please be prepared to take him or her with you when you go out. And please don't let your pet on the bed in consideration of the guests who will come after you.
And, of course, no smoking in the house.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing you!
Michelle and Minnie
Private lodgings, in a culturally diverse neighborhood close to downtown and river arts district. Cold filtered waiting in the fridge when we arrived. Comfortable bed. Michelle was a fantastic host. We had a thoroughly engaging conversation on urban renewal, and she shared with us her experience and knowledge of the changes Asheville has gone through. Highly recommend.
I never met Michelle but the stay at her airbnb couldn't have been more perfect. The room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. We appreciated the separate side entrance so we could come and go as we pleased. There was a binder full of recommendations for places to eat which was very useful. Thanks for a great experience!
We had a wonderful stay in Michelle's place, which was a quick 15-minute walk to the River Arts district. We were not able to meet Michelle, but she made everything easy and checked in by telephone and message over our weekend stay. The space was clean, pleasant and on-street parking was very easy and right in front of the house. We would stay here again.
Very nice room with everything you need! We were only there for one night so we didn't spend much time in the room. It's great that it has a separate entrance. Michelle was very nice and helpful and introduced us to the new ducks:)
