Description

The space

Simple, clean and comfy w/ queen-sized bed, private bath, good shower, fridge, microwave, coffee-maker, & wireless internet. Breakfast is on your own, but why eat in your room when Foodtopia awaits you?

We are LGBTQ and straight friendly. People of Color and white people are welcome.

Our home is an urban micro-farm in the making and a land partner in Patchwork Urban Farms. We are an easy walk or bike to the River Arts District (less than 1/2 mile) and Downtown (1/2 mile to Southslope, then another few blocks to Pritchard Park). It's downhill all the way home from downtown :) You can bike to West Asheville (less than 2 miles) or UNCA (about 3 miles). We're also really close to Biltmore Village and the entrance to the Biltmore Estate (less than 2 miles).

Pet friendly for dogs with well-behaved humans (**see notes below re: dogs). We do ask that you be prepared to to take your dog with you when you go out. We also ask for a 10.00 per day pet/cleaning fee.

We love Asheville & love to help others love it too. We're happy to offer guidance and suggestions or to leave you to have your own experience. Check out our guidebook for this listing.

Our place is simple and affordable but with the added bonus of a private bath and private entrance. You will be welcome and comfortable here.

(**A note for visitors with dogs: I love dogs. Absolutely love 'em. I don't provide a crate, and your dog cannot be on the bed. Yes, I will know. If your dog has never stayed in a crate before this won't be a good place to get him or her used to it. Try it at home first. I prefer you not leave your dog here while you're gone. They tend to feel stressed in a strange place, hearing strange noises. When you arrive there will likely be a moment of excitement when your dog meets our dog, Minnie. Expect barking and sniffing. It's a good idea to let your dog have a walk across the street after traveling and the excitement of meeting another dog in a new place. Asheville is a very dog-friendly town. Lot's of places with outdoor seating and a few that allow dogs inside. Thanks!)

Guest access

You'll have your own private entrance and there is plenty of parking right out front. I usually greet guests but if for some reason I can't be at home when you need to check in, I'll leave the keys for you.

Please observe quiet hours between 10pm and 9am.

Interaction with guests

You'll be pretty self-sufficient and welcome to make your self at home in your space. Text me if you need anything or just knock on the front door.

Both the laundry room and my housemate's room are downstairs but these spaces are separate from the guest space.

The neighborhood

The South French Broad neighborhood is on the south-west fringes of downtown so it's easy to get most anywhere in Asheville. I love the urban stream right across the street, the proximity to the river and how it's perfectly situated to be a leading area for urban sustainability and urban agriculture.

Getting around

Walking around is safe and easy. Minnie and I walk all the time, even after dark.

I have to admit that public transportation is not amazing in Asheville. It exists and you can get around on it but it's nothing to brag about yet.

However, we are becoming a very bicycle-friendly town. Green ways are being developed in the whole city and county for walking and biking.

I think the best deal for parking downtown is in the parking decks. City decks are usually free for the first hour then $1/hour after that. Sometimes special event parking raises the price. Parking is free in RAD and West Asheville.

Other things to note

Please observe quiet hours between 10pm and 9am.

I have a lovely housemate named Wendy. Her room is also downstairs on the other side. You might hear her go up and down the stairs or meet her in passing.

House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
May not be safe or suitable for children (2-12 years)
Check-in is after 4PM

Welcome!
Please park on the street. There's a street light right at the mailbox. I've never had any problems with cars parked on the street though you should, of course, lock your car.

Please observe quiet hours between 10pm and 9am.

I don't provide breakfast but there is coffee, tea, a French press and fridge so you can feel at home. You can walk to breakfast at Biscuit Head in about 5 minutes, Penny Cup Coffee Roaster in about 5 minutes and Ultra Café in 15 minutes. One of my favorite breakfast places downtown is Over Easy on Broadway. Green Sage, also on Broadway, is great too. King Daddy's Chicken & Waffles is amaze-balls in West Asheville (even gluten-free!)

There is a hair-dryer but you should bring your own toiletries.

If you bring your dog please be prepared to take him or her with you when you go out. And please don't let your pet on the bed in consideration of the guests who will come after you.

And, of course, no smoking in the house.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing you!

I enjoy a a large and wonderful community here in Western NC. I live with my super-cute dog, Minnie and a flock of ducks.

I have two social enterprise businesses. I'm a Celebrant and a Consultant for social profit businesses. A Celebrant is a ceremony specialist. I'm also an ordained Inter-faith Minister. ( So if you want to get married while you're here, I can help you out with that too! Find out more about that and the other types of ceremonies I help people create by googling Asheville Celebrant. My other business is Social Profit Strategies, which supports social enterprise businesses and non-profit organizations with development, fund-raising, capacity building and marketing and promotions.

I am passionate about urban sustainability and I'm a land-owner partner in Patchwork Urban Farms.

I love to hike and swim. I enjoy, sewing, yoga and spending time with my friends and neighbors.

I love my town so I'm happy to give you tips and directions or just leave you to your own devices. Look forward to meeting you in person!

Happy Day!
Michelle
