Our home is an urban micro-farm-in-the-making and a land partner in Patchwork Urban Farms. We are an easy walk or bike to the River Arts District (less than 1/2 mile) and Downtown (less than a mile). You can bike to West Asheville (less than 2 miles) or UNCA (about 3 miles). We're also really close to Biltmore Village and the entrance to the Biltmore Estate (less than 2 miles).
Pet friendly for dogs with well-behaved humans**. We do ask that you be prepared to to take your dog with you when you go out. We also ask for a 10.00 per day pet/cleaning fee.
We love Asheville & love to help others love it too. We're happy to offer guidance and suggestions or to leave you to have your own experience. Check out our guidebook for this listing.
This room is not air-conditioned. It has a ceiling fan and an oscillating fan. It maintains a relatively constant cool temp because it is in our finished (and mildew-free) basement. People say they sleep very comfortably.
Our place is simple and affordable but with the added bonus of a private bath and private entrance. You will be welcome and comfortable here.
(**A note for visitors with dogs: I love dogs. Absolutely love 'em. When you arrive there will likely be a moment of excitement when your dog meets our dog, Minnie. Expect barking and sniffing. It's a good idea to let your dog have a walk across the street after traveling and the excitement of meeting another dog in a new place. If your dog has never stayed in a crate before this won't be a good place to get him or her used to it. Try it at home first. I prefer you not leave your dog here while you're gone. They tend to feel stressed in a strange place, hearing strange noises. But we can talk about it. Thanks!
You'll have your own private entrance and there is plenty of parking right out front. I usually greet guests but if for some reason I can't be at home when you need to check in, I can tell you where I keep the key.
Interaction with Guests
You'll be pretty self-sufficient and welcome to make your self at home in your space. Text me if you need anything or just knock on the front door.
The South-side neighborhood is on the south-west fringes of downtown so it's easy to get most anywhere in Asheville. I love the urban stream right across the street, the proximity to the river and how it's perfectly situated to be a leading area for urban sustainability and urban agriculture.
I have to admit that public transportation is not amazing in Asheville. It exists and you can get around on it but it's nothing to brag about yet.
However, we are becoming a very bicycle-friendly town. Green ways are being developed in the the whole city and county for walking and biking.
Please park on the street. There's a street light right at the mailbox. I've never had any problems with cars parked on the street though you should, of course, lock your car.
I don't provide breakfast but there is a coffee maker and fridge so you can feel at home. You can walk to coffee at Clingman Cafe in about 10 minutes. One of my favorite breakfast places is Over Easy on Broadway. Green Sage, also on Broadway, is great too.
There is a hair-dryer but you should bring your own toiletries.
If you bring your pet please be prepared to take him or her with you when you go out. And please don't let your pet on the bed in consideration of the guests who will come after you.
And, of course, no smoking in the house.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing you!
Michelle and Minnie
Michelle was very accommodating of our late night arrival. She left the light on and the door unlocked for us. The room was comfortable and clean. Downtown was very close, a mere 5 minute drive. We had to hit the road the next morning otherwise I would've loved to have walked into town.
Michelle was super welcoming and provided us with all of the information we needed to get around Asheville, including some maps of the best walking routes around West Asheville and downtown Asheville. Her binder of restaurant recommendations and collection of hiking maps were both really useful, and came in handy for navigating the Blue Ridge Mountains & finding good places to eat and drink. We appreciated the very clean bedroom and bathroom, and the privacy of the separate entrance to the room. Thank you Michelle, we really enjoyed our stay :)
Michelle was a warm host and the space was comfortable and a good value. Recommended.
Michelle was a wonderful host. She knows so much about Asheville, and was a great resource on a variety of topics. Her unit was a little bit cold in the winter and is better for walking to downtown in the summer months, but it was still quite nice to be so close to the heart of Asheville, and was considerably more affordable than other Airbnb locations that were the same relative distance away.
Our experience at Michelle's house was great! We got in to town early and she told us to come on over. Our room was very nice and very comfortable and worked perfectly for us. I am glad our first AirBNB experience was with someone as awesome as Michelle. It makes me excited to travel more and have other great experiences! Thank you again for your hospitality!
Staying with Michelle was perfectly lovely. There was a lot of information about things to do in Asheville and the room was very comfortable. The mini fridge in the closet was useful for all the delicious leftovers we had from food places in Asheville!!
I enjoy a a large and wonderful community here in Western NC. I live with my super-cute dog, Minnie and a flock of ducks.
