YOUR ROOM: THE MUIR WOODS ROOM
14 1/2 ft x 12 1/2 ft (181 square feet)
This is a large, nature-themed room with a comfortable queen-sized bed, two desks and chairs, a dresser for your clothes, end tables and lamps, a closet with hangers and hamper, your own iron and ironing board, and extra blankets for those cool nights. It also has a futon chair which opens into a single bed, so the room can sleep up to 3 people, such as a couple with a child.
The Muir Woods Room pays homage to Muir Woods National Monument, established in 1908 when President Roosevelt signed legislation to protect the land. The trees there range in age from 400 to 800 years, and their height is up to 250 feet.
CLEAN AND GREEN
We provide green living supports (recycling, composting, chemical-free bath products, etc.). Each person cleans up after themselves after meals and other activities in common areas. Your host provides deep cleaning of the entire house and changes your linens and towels between every guest. Cleaning products are chemical-free and unscented (Seventh Generation and Dr. Bronners), so you'll smell only the fresh air.
When you rent a room in Derby Creek Guesthouse, you have access to the large, well-equipped kitchen where you can cook and store your food; the comfortable and beautifully furnished living room with antique Victorian sofas, cable TV, and books; the porch and its patio seating to socialize; and the pretty garden which has a teak table and chairs and a new charcoal barbecue grill.
I will meet you at our pre-arranged check-in time to show you around, deliver your keys, and answer any questions. I'm also happy to make restaurant, transportation, and sightseeing recommendations at that time.
During your stay, your host will not enter your room unless you request optional cleaning services.
I'm available by phone, email, or text if you need anything during your stay or if you have any questions or problems that need to be addressed.
I will meet you again on the day of your departure to collect the house keys, discuss any breakage or problems that may have arisen during your stay, hear any feedback you'd like to offer (suggestions welcome), and wish you a safe journey.
I enjoy meeting travelers who are sociable, and am open to more interaction, when the timing is right for all concerned, but I respect your privacy and will go about my own doings unless you reach out to me.
The house is located approximately 1/2 mile south of University of California, Berkeley between the Southside and Elmwood neighborhoods. Public transportation, shops and restaurants, and Zipcars are abundant nearby. San Francisco is just 10 miles away and easily accessible by BART train or by car.
The neighborhood has excellent public transportation, plentiful Zipcars, and easy walks to shops and restaurants. A bus stops 450 ft from the house (a 2-minute walk). A rapid transit station (BART) is 1 mile from the house.

If you prefer to stow your car, you can park at the nearby Ashby BART station all day for $2.
GETTING HERE FROM THE AIRPORT: There is a BART station directly inside SFO airport, which you can take to the Downtown Berkeley BART station. From there, you can take a cab the one mile to the house.
If you prefer a taxi, you can catch one at the ground transportation level of the airport, Taxi cabs wait at the BART station in a cue, so you take the one at the front of the line. Fares and rules are available on the SFO website.
If you are traveling with several people and a lot of luggage, it's better to arrange a shared ride or exclusive van. They should be reserved at least 24-hours in advance. You can find their phone numbers on the SFO website.
In some cases, I may be able to pick you up at the airport for a fee that's comparable to the taxi or van ride.

I stayed in Amy's house for almost one month while I was looking for an apartment to rent in Berkeley. It is just awesome, clean, confortable and very well decorated. The rooms are spacious and cosy. The kitchen is very well equipped with all utensils and condiments. Great Location, only 5 min walk from Elmwoods restaurants, and 10 min from UC Berkeley campus. Amy was a great hosts, very welcoming and friendly. Overall a good place to stay, definitely recommended.
Amy is a wonderful host and her house is just amazing! The house was clean and the room was big! The standard on the room was very good. We will recommend the place!
My 2 grown-up children and I enjoyed an absolutely wonderful stay at Amy's B&B. The accommodation is immaculate, Amy always has a beautiful smile & is always happy to assist where necessary.
The beds are super comfy, the kitchen is well equipped and the breakfast options are just what the doctor ordered.
Staying here was particularly pleasant. The bed was extremely comfortable, all the floors very clean and the entire house calm and quiet. All the details are there - from the extra towels to the ironing set and everything in the kitchen. The location is very nice, and ideally close to the bus stop.
We stayed at Amy's Derby Creek Guesthouse, and will definitley be staying there again the next time we are in the Berkeley area. Her house was everything she described and more. Fresh organic fruit every morning, clean facilities, great location, warm, inviting, and tasteful. It is a charming well appointed house, and she knows how to make people feel at home. We have a little boy just under two, and not only did she accomodate us with a bed for him, but she had a big toy basket and childrens books for him too. Dr. Seuss The Lorax and the stuffed animal bunny made his trip. Thanks so much Amy.
TOTALLY LUCKED OUT WITH AMY'S BED AND BREAKFAST!!!
First experience with airbnb at suggestion of my daughter. Not sure how I'd like the experience having only ever stayed in a hotel or motel. All hotels were full, far away or very expensive for weekend of general UC Berkeley graduation. IT ALL COULD NOT HAVE GONE BETTER!! Quaint, clean, charming, comfortable, quiet, considerate host and guests!! Very close and walkable to daughter's apt, UC campus, restaurants and shopping! Shared full home with other lovely, friendly, graduates' parents and family. Very helpful bathroom/shower schedule. Pleasantly surprised by huge assortment of organic, yummy breakfast options - cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, milk, juice, coffee, teas. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Susan, I'm so glad you were thrilled with your stay! Thank you for your feedback on the shower schedule, since we had never used or needed one before, but thought it prudent with the house full to capacity with graduates' families. It was excellent to hear from everyone that there was easy bathroom access in spite of the unusually full house that weekend. You were a great guest to host and I'd love to see you back again someday. Congrats, again, on your daughter's graduation. Amy
The guesthouse and neighborhood was charming and Amy - a gracious host - she provided excellent accommodations, was very thoughtful to keep an abundance of great breakfast and snack food on hand, and she kept guests informed and updated.
Beautiful home, great location, helpful host - what more could you ask for? The house, room, and bathroom were all very clean and we never had any issues with noise, waiting in line for the bathroom, messiness, etc (all things I was worried about). We LOVED the breakfast Amy put out for the mornings - organic and healthy breads, spreads, fruits, yogurts, etc. I would HIGHLY recommend this to a friend and if I am ever in Berkeley again, I will be staying here.
Also, this truly is a wonderful location - quaint neighborhood and a 10 minute walk from campus.
Translation to English from French: "This guest house is extremely comfortable and very clean. The shared bathroom is spacious, each room has its own color of towel, so guests can leave them hanging in the bathroom without fear of others using them. The bed is perfect, mellow, welcoming. The house is well heated. The kitchen is very well equipped. A hearty breakfast is provided. A real pleasure! Amy, the owner is attentive to the needs of her guests.Tissues on the nightstand, small ribbons around towels, welcome chocolates ... I recommend! A great place to feel like home."
I visited my daughters who attend Cal. The house was within walking distance of their place and so much more. I was able to cook a home cooked meal for them at Amy's place! It was wonderful just to hangout and have a beautiful evening in. The house is lovely, exceptionally clean, quiet and beautiful.
