About this listing
PLEASE MESSAGE HOST BEFORE BOOKING. The MUIR WOODS ROOM is a large (14 ft x 12 ft), private guest room in Derby Creek Guesthouse. Run like a traditional B&B by an Airbnb Superhost who delivers a hassle-free experience based on hospitality best practices. Cleaning is by professionals. Supplies are well stocked. Simple systems keep things tidy & organized. Bathrooms are clean. Nights are quiet. Breakfast is organic. Guest rooms are private, with keyed locks. Guests are mostly UC Berkeley scholars.
THE MUIR WOODS ROOM has a comfortable queen-sized bed and a twin-sized futon (for reading or sleeping). It also has a desk and chair, a dresser for your clothes, end tables and lamps, a closet with hangers, your own iron and ironing board, an in-room landline phone, and extra blankets for those cool nights. The room can sleep up to 3 people. For guest-count purposes, each person counts as a guest, regardless of their age.
Derby Creek Guesthouse is operated by a PROFESSIONAL AIRBNB SUPERHOST who has been hosting for more than SIX YEARS. My reviews show my devotion to creating a seamless, comfortable, and hassle-free visit for you. I have diligently applied guest feedback and researched hospitality best practices to make my place 100% supportive of a short term stay. Nothing is left to chance. As so many of my reviews report, a stay at Derby Creek Guesthouse is a traditional Bed & Breakfast experience at an unbelievably low price.
Guests share a spacious, clean, green/non-toxic, organized, and beautifully decorated house, with two spacious, clean bathrooms.
Access to the kitchen is privilege-based: as long as you tidy up after yourself and respect kitchen access hours, you're welcome to store your food in my fridge/cabinets and cook to your heart's content. Kitchen hours are 6 am - 9 pm.
There's no laundry access, but we supply a wheeled cart and laundry bag, which you can take to the coin operated laundromat just one block away.
Interaction with guests
For everyone's comfort, safety, and peace of mind, we meet new guests for check-in, by appointment, on their first visit. Return guests can let themselves in. When I'm home, I use the kitchen and living areas alongside guests. I enjoy getting to know travelers who are sociable and respect the privacy of those who are not.
Other things to note
WE EMBRACE DIVERSITY. People of all races, nationalities, religious or non-religious affiliation, gender identity, and sexual orientation are welcome and appreciated here.
ETIQUETTE: IT'S A HOME, NOT A HOTEL
You're being invited into your host's private home, not a hotel, so please behave accordingly. You'll be expected to tidy up after yourself, respect quiet hours, don't steal or handle my things roughly, be polite to the neighbors, and treat your host and other guests considerately. Tell me about yourself before requesting a booking, so I know who I'm inviting into my home. Let's follow the neighborly principle of reciprocity: if you seek a discount or other special accommodation, offer a trade or a helping hand.
Airbnb will email you a Booking Confirmation/Itinerary with the House Guide. It includes the address, directions, parking details, host contact info, house rules, wi-fi password, restaurant recommendations, and other important and helpful info. I invested a lot of time in preparing this guide to help you. Please review it, bring it along with you, and consult it first when you need help.
CLEAN AND GREEN: House is professionally cleaned, and all bedding laundered between guests, using organic, fragrance-free cleaning supplies. Each guest cleans up after themselves (no maid). Green living supports are provided: recycling, composting, chemical-free bath products, etc. Furnishings are natural materials (no particle board or other off-gassing materials).
PETS. The upstairs (where all of the bedrooms are located) is a NO PETS ZONE (for the sake of allergy-sufferers). Two cats live with me in my separate, downstairs suite. There's a HEPA air filter outside my door, and we sweep daily and mop weekly.
NOT A PARTY or NIGHT OWL HOUSE: I consider a good nights' sleep a sacred commitment to my guests. If you tend to be a night owl, please choose another Airbnb. Sleep is valued and protected here.

I'm both a host and a traveler on Airbnb.
I'm a writer and advocacy professional making a career change to psychology. I'm intellectually inclined, politically informed, and culturally sensitive. I love science (from microbes to galaxies), animals (wild and domestic), gardening, outdoor adventures, philosophy, writing, and the mysteries of "life, the universe, and everything."
As a HOST, I truly enjoy sharing my comfy, warm, and welcoming home with good people from all over the world. To me, a stranger is just a friend I haven't met. Sometimes a visiting family member or friend stays here, too, and participates in welcoming visitors or helping with projects around the house.
As a TRAVELER, alone or with friends, I'm self-sufficient, quiet, upbeat, and respectful of the homes and privacy of my hosts. I read and follow the house rules ahead of time, and research public transit, etc., so I'm easy to host. My travel style is to relax and plan in the early morning, explore all day, and come back at a reasonable hour so I can get a good night's sleep and have energy for the next day's adventures.
Looking forward to meeting you!
