The room can sleep up to 3 people if one includes a child (but not three single adults, please).

Interaction with Guests
For the comfort and security of all of our guests, we meet all of our guests for check-in, by advance appointment, on their first visit. With a week's notice, we can usually arrange your check-in anytime between 4 pm and 10 pm. After your first stay, we are happy to allow a self-check-in at your leisure. Please schedule your first check-in a week ahead so we can best meet your preferred arrival time. At check-in, we will orient you to the home (where to find the things you'll need), review the house rules and the City of Berkeley's noise ordinance, and give you keys to the house and your room.
We use the kitchen and living areas, alongside our guests. When we all have time, we enjoy getting to know travelers who are sociable. But to respect your privacy, we will greet you when we see you, but will go about our own business unless you reach out.
The house is located 1/2 mile south of University of California, Berkeley and one mile from downtown Berkeley and Berkeley BART. The neighborhood is a quaint, walkable, safe residential area. It includes the popular Telegraph Ave district and the Elmwood district business and shopping areas. San Francisco is just 10 miles away and easily accessible by BART train or by car. We respect our neighbors and the neighborhood quiet hours (10 pm - 7 am), so please only book a stay here if you and any companions who join you can do the same.
BUS STOP: An AC Transit bus stop is just one block away (400 feet), at Derby & Benvenue, with Bus 51 B taking you to campus in 5-7 minutes and to the Downtown Berkeley BART station in 10-12 mins. If you stay on Bus 51B past the BART station and up University Ave, you can use it to visit the Berkeley Marina (very pretty).
BART: Two BART stations are exactly one mile away - Ashby BART and Downtown Berkeley BART. A third BART station (with plentiful parking) is 1.7 miles away: Rockridge BART.
CAR: You'll find an Enterprise Rent-a-Car just a few blocks away. You can also easily get rides from Uber or Lyft most anywhere in the Bay Area.
FREEWAYS: It's an easy jaunt from here to I-80/I-580, via California 13 (Ashby Ave). Ashby Ave intersects with our street just 4 blocks south.
PARKING is limited and regulated, so avoid bringing a car if you can. If you must bring a car, you can park on the street in my neighborhood overnight and for up to two hours during the day (8 am - 7 pm) without a permit. If you wish to park your car all day, you have three options: 1) park it at the nearest BART station for around $2/day; 2) park it in a nearby public parking garage for around $15-20/day; or purchase a street parking permit from me for $10/'day (as available, by advance request, supplies are limited). I'm not responsible for securing or managing your parking or for guest's parking tickets. If your plan is to park your car all day, you will be much better off without one in Berkeley, since public transit is convenient, taxis are easy to find, Zipcars, Lyft cars, Ubers are plentiful, and parking is expensive and hard to find.
Other Things to Note
USE THE BOOKING CONFIRMATION/ITINERARY: After you book, Airbnb will email you a booking confirmation/itinerary. It contains the address, directions, house rules, wi-fi passcode, and other important info. I invested a lot of time and care into preparing it to make your life easier. Please make both our lives easier, in return, by reading it and using it, instead of urgently asking for information that's already provided in the document. Best idea: print it out as soon as you book your stay, and take it with you in case you can't access the Airbnb website, or your smart phone battery had died, while you're traveling. We do expect our guests to know and observe the house rules outlined in that document. If you have lost the email, use your email's search function with "Airbnb" or log into your Airbnb account, where you can easily find it under "Your Trips." Once you find it, print, download, bookmark, or save it (or all of the above).
ODD HOURS ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES: This is a group house shared with others who need their sleep as much as you do. Due to the unavoidable noise of arrivals and departures, I no longer accommodate travelers whose flights land after 8 pm or depart before 8 am. I will ask you for your flight info before booking your stay. If you haven't arranged your flights at the time of booking, please be considerate of this when you do. $50 odd hours fee applies.
CLEAN AND GREEN: We provide green living supports (recycling, composting, chemical-free bath products, etc.). Each person cleans up after themselves immediately after meals. Before you check-in, we have the entire house professionally cleaned, including laundering all of the linens, towels, pillows, and blankets. We also clean the common areas of the house at least twice weekly during your stay. For stays of more than a week, we will replace your linens and towels, and dust and vacuum your room weekly. Cleaning products are chemical-free and unscented (Seventh Generation and Dr. Bronner's), so you'll smell only the fresh air. We ask you to preserve our indoor air quality and other guests' health & comfort by not bringing bleach or other toxic products into the home and by storing perfumes only inside the bathroom drawers (not inside guest rooms).
PETS. The main house is pet-free (for the sake of allergy-sufferers). But two cats live with me in my separate suite and do not enter the house. There's an electric Hepa air filter on each side of the door to my suite to trap any kitty hair that might enter the threshold from my comings and goings between the house & suite. My suite is on the first floor; all of the guest rooms are on the second floor.
LAUNDRY: We don't have on site laundry facilities for guests, but there's a coin operated laundry just 200 feet from the house (a 1 minute walk), and we provide laundry bags, eco-friendly laundry soap, and a wheeled basket to get you there easily.
VACATION RENTAL: When the individual rooms are not already booked, the whole house is sometimes available for family reunions or other group getaways. House listing: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/662523
OPTIONAL SERVICES: Whether you're renting the house or individual rooms, we also offer (with 1 week advance notice and extra fee):
- laundry service
- daily maid service
- camping gear
- bike rentals
- baby gear
NOT A PARTY HOUSE: If you're looking for a house where you can hold parties or stay up through the night, this is not the place for you. Night owls should stay elsewhere, since normal household sounds (doors closing, footsteps, shuffling around) travel easily in houses with wooden floors. I consider a good nights' sleep a sacred commitment to my guests and if you're disruptive at night, you'll be asked to quiet down or leave.
AVAILABILITY: The calendar is always up-to-date, so the step of asking if it's available and waiting for a reply isn't necessary. If the calendar shows dates as available, they are, and you can go ahead and book them.
APPROVING YOUR RESERVATION: Understand that Airbnb hosts are allowing total strangers into their homes and this merits a certain level of care and caution. Airbnb is a community of trust, and your profile and verifications make that trust possible. If your profile is not complete, please include in your inquiry your name and address, place of employment, and the reason for your stay in the Bay Area. If your booking is for a family member, friend, or employee, include their info when you reach out. I won't accept anonymous bookings. Best approach: take a moment to complete your profile.
QUESTIONS?: Ask away! Or ask for my complete Q&A.

Amy is an incredible host. I stayed with her for 8 days, switching from the Private Suite to the Muir Woods Room when it became available. A friend recommended the house to me, and I am happily recommending it to others.
The place is as lovely as the description and the pictures. The living areas, patio and deck were inviting, and the bathrooms were clean and spacious. Location is perfect -- close to the Berkeley campus, a bus stop around the corner, lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Check in was smooth and Amy was very flexible when I called to say I was running late. She was also very helpful at check out when I had to make arrangements while moving my daughter into Cal Berkeley.
You are spoiled for choice for breakfast -- a large selection of yoghurt, cereal, bread, muffins, bagels, eggs, milk, and fruit. Coffee and tea were available all day. Amy also lets you use the kitchen to cook if you want to.
As a host, Amy will give you privacy if you need it, but is also around to chat if you want to. For me, it was fun to get to know her and trade stories -- we laughed a lot!
5 stars for this listing!
TRANSLATION TO ENGLISH. We stayed 7 nights in a room of this historic house, which was very cozy and all the interior was wonderful. I think sincerely that we would like to live in such a house. In the neighborhood, we felt entirely safe, and were able to take pleasant walks. Bathrooms are located on both the first and second floors, and were easily accessible without waiting. The breakfast breads and fruit, cereal, yogurt, and all the other plentiful breakfast foods helped save time in the morning. In the living and dining room, we had the opportunity to talk with other guests, and I thought it was a real thrill how different this was from staying in a hotel. Amy is kind, warm, and helpful in answering questions, and it was really appreciated.
Amy's place is nicely maintained as always, everything is clean and pretty, and Amy has to be one of the best hosts on airbnb! I stayed with my boyfriend this time and we both enjoyed it a lot. Definitely recommend and would come back.
Amy is the best host ever. My dad and I really enjoyed stay in her house, and we would definitely visit her house again. The room is large and clean, with a quite comfortable living environment. We found the kitchen appliances very comprehensive since she even prepared electric cookery and sushi rice before we checked in. Besides, my dad and I are pretty thankful for Amy and her friend that they took us to the supermarket when we arrived. Also, I was very happy to find a good friend in her guest. The most unforgettable experience ever. I recommend everyone choose her house.
Thank you Jiaying. It was truly delightful to meet you and get to know you. From the brief experience I had getting to know you, I believe any new friend of yours is lucky to have you in their lives. And I could say the same for Samantha. It was nice to see such a promising friendship born here. Thank you for being such conscientious and open-hearted visitors. I hope to see you again in the future!
Amy was a great host, very welcoming and very hospitable. The house was immaculate despite hosting numerous people at once, but still felt cosy enough to kick your feet up and relax in. Amy provided everything you needed from fresh towels to breakfast supplies to a medi-kit if needed. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking to tour around the Berkeley and San Francisco area (took us just over 30 mins drive into San Fran)
It has been a great experience staying with Amy! She has prepared a great home for her guests. Everything is really nice and super clean. Her house is located in a pretty and save neighborhood and you can walk from her house to UC Berkeley in 15 Minutes and to the BART station in 20 minutes. Amy is a super nice host who makes you feel very welcome at her home and responds to all messages and questions very quickly. The check-in and check-out process is managed really well, too. Amy lives Airbnb as its best and I can only recommend staying with her to anyone who wants to spend a few days or weeks in Berkeley.
For someone who was staying in an Airbnb home for the first time....Amy s home was like home itself! There is attention to details in each and every aspect....like the jackets the host keeps for the guests in case they are not carrying them for a visit to San Francisco and the facility of a printer for taking out a printout or two....say a boarding pass for the next flight.Very thoughtful hospitality indeed!
The freedom to use the kitchen and the free breakfast coupled with the use of the dining area and the drawing room plus the beautiful location takes this listing right to the top out of the San Francisco s options.
And the credit of it all goes to the host.Amy deserves to be there in the Very Superhost Category if Airbnb makes one. The arrangement like the one provided by her and her thoughtful care for her guests makes it an icing on the cake.
I think,it is hosts like Amy who set the bar high up for all the Airbnb hosts to follow and it is easier said than done.
So if you need to experience the class act when in San Francisco..... Send in a request to Amy....You will be lucky if she takes you in!!

About the Host, Amy
I'm both a host and a traveler on Airbnb. I'm a writer and advocacy professional making a career change to psychology. I'm intellectually inclined, politically informed, and culturally sensitive. I love science (from microbes to galaxies), animals (wild and domestic), gardening, outdoor adventures, philosophy, writing, and the mysteries of "life, the universe, and everything."
As a HOST, I truly enjoy sharing my comfy, warm, and welcoming home with good people from all over the world. To me, a stranger is just a friend I haven't met. Sometimes a visiting family member or friend stays here, too, and participates in welcoming visitors or helping with projects around the house. Since we're entrusting you with our home & things, we do need to know about you before accepting a booking: full legal name, current address, and place of employment. Taking a moment to complete your profile with this information will speed things up.
As a TRAVELER, alone or with friends, I'm self-sufficient, quiet, upbeat, and respectful of the homes and privacy of my hosts. I read and follow the house rules ahead of time, and research public transit, etc., so I'm easy to host. My travel style is to relax and plan in the early morning, explore all day, and come back at a reasonable hour so I can get a good night's sleep and have energy for the next day's adventures.
Looking forward to meeting you!
