Aloha and welcome to Hale Honomu!
We are located amidst several beach parks on the pristine Hamakua Coast in the picturesque town of Honomu, home to the famous Akaka Falls waterfall. Just 15 minutes from downtown Hilo, an hour and a half from Kona side beaches and resorts, and 45 minutes from Waimea, Volcano, and the Mauna Kea Visitor Station, our Hale is the perfect springboard for all of your Big Island adventures!
Our plantation style second floor apartment is newly renovated with a brand new Beautyrest pillow top mattress and stunning views of Mauna Kea. It also includes a full kitchen, full bath, pull-out futon, WiFi and cable television. Just next door you can find fresh, local 100% Hawaiian coffee, smoothies, breakfast, and lunch sandwiches in our coffee shop, Hilo Shark's Coffee. Mr. Ed's bakery, Skyline Eco Adventures Zip Line, and several small gift shops are also just a short walk from Hale Honomu.
We'd love to have you as our next guest here at the Hale Honomu. We look forward to meeting you!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask :)
Please take your shoes off at the bottom of the stairs! Thanks so much!
Ms. Chiodo's space is an exceptional value at $109 per night. It is immaculately clean, spacious, and newly renovated. It is located about 12 miles from downtown Hilo, which does not pose a problem as the island is small, and you need a rental car to get around anyway. The space is much better than just about any hotel room for a fraction of the cost. I have stayed in some really crappy hotels on the Banyan Tree Lane before, and they cost a lot more than what Ms. Chiodo is charging. The only negative I can report is that the place should be retrofitted with light-blocking shades in order to make it darker at night.
When I do an airbnb transaction, I prefer to meet and interact with the host. I gathered that Ms. Chiodo was way too busy to make herself available. The entire transaction and stay was completed without ever once meeting her. If you prefer to interact with the host (as I do), then this could be seen as a negative. If you prefer to never see the host (and don't want the host to bother you), then Ms. Chiodo is the perfect host for you.
The apartment was located in a small town near the Akaka Falls. It was nice and clean. We did not meet Kim during our stay but she gave us helpful information via text messages. Her staff at the coffee shop was very helpful and friendly. The coffee shop is right below the apartment and a nice place to have breakfast. We would definitely choose it again.
The listing description was accurate. Kim was not available during my stay. However, she owns Hilo Sharks Coffee below the apt, and invited me to ask the baristas for assistance if I needed it. They were very helpful, friendly people! Kim gave me one free breakfast in the coffee shop, too.
Everything was great. No hassles at all in terms of getting in/out, the apartment was as described.
My husband had gone to Hilo with his family on vacation a few years back. He mentioned that the resort hotel he went to was a turn-off, so we decided to book our stay with Airbnb. We are glad we used this listing since the apartment was spacious and in a small town. It is a clean apartment so we could do our cooking and relaxing. We felt right at home. Kim was available if we needed anything but she was great about giving us our privacy. The coffee shop below the apt was very convenient and we were given a $6 breakfast voucher for breakfast which was super cool. We would definitely come back.
Bright, clean, and easy to find, plus the coffee shop below made great breakfast. Apartment had everything we needed. It's a quiet neighbourhood with a short drive to both Akaka Falls and Hilo and we were always able to park on the street right outside our door. You can hear the music from the coffee shop below when it opens up in the morning (8am) but we were always up already and the music was good so we didn't mind. All in all we had a great stay!
Kim's apartment was spacious and beautiful. When looking for a rental, the word 'quaint' is often used for a place that is so-so. Not this place! The location was conveniently located but it also provided a tremendous amount of privacy. Kim was always so quick to respond professionally and with warmth. We wholeheartedly recommend this amazing place to anyone interested in staying near the Hilo/Hamakua Coast area. Actually, you should consider yourself very fortunate should you find and stay at this lovely apartment.
I found the Big Island five years ago while traveling and decided then and there to make it my home! I love living in Hawaii and enjoying island life. When I'm not working in our adjoining coffee shop, I love dancing, spending time at the beach, hiking, and camping.
