The Space

This listing is for one furnished room called the "Garden Room" due to its' Martha Stewart green paint color. The apartment is approximately 900 square feet and the single room available is approx 200 SF with a queen bed and small desk.
There is one shared bath with a shower; all towels are provided for your stay.

The flat is located just 3 blocks from the Chicago beach front and walking distance to downtown (a WalkScore of 95!). Built in 1871, this historic flat is located in the only section of Chicago to survive the Great Chicago Fire, yet is fully renovated with all modern amenities.

The living room features 12 foot ceilings and full dining room table for meals, to spread out your travel maps, or simply great for work. There is a 36 inch flat screen TV with cable and DVD player. The flat is Wi-Fi wired (password will be provided.) The moderns kitchen includes a coffee maker, an espresso maker, microwave, stove, and access to all dishware and pots and pans.

The famous Green City Farmers Market is directly across the street from our house and open every Wednesday and Saturday morning between May and October. Stroll over and enjoy some crepes, fresh-squeezed juices, bread from the famous Bennsingers Bakery, or baked goods from Hoosier Mama!

We are also a 5-minute stroll to the famous North Avenue Beach.
There are over 10 miles of lakefront paths to enjoy, venturing north or south. The beach by our flat hosts volleyball, sand tennis, stand up paddle boarding, an outdoor restaurant, and (of course!) ice cream. There is bike rental right at the beach, making it easy to rent (and return) bikes and be 5 minutes from home.

Also within walking distance (5 minutes) is The Lincoln Park Zoo, The Chicago Historical Society, and both the Brown Line and Red Line to downtown.

As hosts, we offer 20+ years of knowledge of places to see and go that the normal tourist would not be aware of. Our neighborhood is called Old Town, and it is filled with little boutiques, restaurants, and quaint coffee shops.

Check In
  • I had a great time staying at Kelly's. Her apartment is beautiful and just as listed in her description. Even though Kelly was very busy during my stay, she still made herself available to greet me, answer questions, respond to texts and give me some great ideas of things to do around town. The apartment is in a great location as it is very close to the zoo, lake and a number of restaurants/bars. I would definitely recommend this listing for those looking to stay in the north side of Chicago.

  • Kelly and her family were incredibly warm and welcoming. They made me feel right at home. Plus, the dog is very snuggly. Her communication was inviting and thoughtful from the minute I inquired about the room. Her house manual is thorough and she was more than willing to share her insider information on the neighborhood and things I was interested in. The house isn't super close to public transit (usually a 5ish minute walk or more), but the neighborhood is very safe and the location makes it great for walking around. Kelly has a great eye for art and design, her home is very beautiful. The vast majority of my stay was very pleasant and positive, the only thing that was disappointing was that my room wasn't totally clean and the bathroom (the shower especially) was quite noticeably dirty. All in all, it was truly a great stay with the exception of the cleanliness.

  • I traveled to Chicago for a two day conference. Kelly made herself easily available by email and phone from our initial correspondence to my departure from Chicago. I contacted her upon arrival at the airport for last minute directions about the blue line stop closest to Old Town and she provided very clear instructions. Her neighborhood is beautiful - a short walk to the lake and filled with local shops and restaurants. Kelly's place is also lovely and as a host Kelly is welcoming and engaging. She gave me an orientation upon arrival which helped me to get my bearings and encouraged me to make myself comfortable - store food in the fridge, make coffee, etc. My room was very nice - closet space, tall ceiling, large window, very clean, cheerfully decorated, and a big comfortable bed. Kelly provided me with everything I needed for a great first trip to Chicago and I would definitely try and stay with Kelly again if I have an opportunity to return to Chicago.

  • Kelly's place is gorgeous! It is located is a very cool and lovely neighborhood in Old Town Chicago just a few blocks from the beach. I walked around the neighborhood enjoying the local food, shopping and had a delicious (email hidden). Overall it was a great stay. Also, Kelly herself was a gracious and accommodating host. The best thing about using Airbnb is the opportunity to stay in homes like Kelly’s. Where you get to see neighborhoods and areas that are not touristy but are instead a glimpse into life in a new area. I would recommend this for sure and hope to return on my next trip to Chicago.

  • This is a terrific location in Old Town, very quiet at night with interesting houses in the neighborhood, and lots of bars and restaurants a stones throw down the street. Kelly was very nice and helpful with suggestions for places to eat in the neighborhood. Milo is a big teddy bear and if you are a dog lover you have to meet him!

I am a fashion-based graphic designer who lives and works in Chicago. I am also the mother of 2 amazing kids, a boy and a girl. My oldest (son) is heading off to Boston College and my youngest (girl) is just entering high school here in the city. We are a fun and active family. We bike all over town, we frequent the MCA, and we paddleboard in Lake Michigan! We speak French and German pretty fluently, and my daughter is now studying Spanish. Oh yeah - and we (email hidden) great dane named Milo!
