The Space

Private house on amazingly beautiful 7 acres ocean front cliff property. Sit on your own balcony overlooking the lower part of the property and the ocean.
See and hear whales during whale season. Watch the moon or rainbows on the water. Go on hikes to secluded pools or the ocean shore. Guided horseback tours, Palapala Ho'omau Church (burial place of Charles Lindbergh), and Seven Sacred Pools within easy walking distance.
Our Ocean Front House contains a kitchenette, bathroom, dining area, living room, queen bed alcove, and balcony.
We are in Kipahulu, a mere 30 minute drive from Hana, in East Maui. Our property is on an ocean front cliff with 2 levels of ornamental garden and native jungle. All of our structures were designed to blend into the existing nature to create a harmonious unity. The property operates on solar power and water catchment. While resource conservation is strongly encouraged, we do feature 120V electricity, gas stoves, hot water showers, and triple-filtered drinking water.
Our Uma (Hawaiian for ancient mountain goddess who mediates between heaven & earth) serves as a yoga/dance/meditation studio and, with the exception of special events, is open to our guests. If you're looking to get away from it all, to take a break and recharge yourself, look no further. You won't find a more serenely beautiful, contemplative and relaxed setting anywhere on the island.

  • We stayed in the oceanfront house for 2 nights and really did not want to leave. This place suited us (we don't stay in surgical resorts or do spoon-fed travel..). Halemano is a secluded, eclectic, relaxing oasis where one can re-tune and breathe. Great to sleep with the sound of the ocean on the cliff below, the chirp of geckos and rain on the leaves.... Our hosts were truly fantastic, helpful and engaging.

If you want a place to stop, stay, relax and breathe then this is that place. If you don't have time to stop, stay, relax and breathe, than maybe you DO need to stay! :)

  • We had a really great time out in the jungle. People miss out a lot by only trying to do East Maui in a day...

  • We don't really want to write a review for fear that everyone will want to come to this magical place on Maui. By far one of the most beautiful places one could ever hope to find a bed, nestled in the carved out grounds of the jungle. If you don't like bugs or the elements or cooking your own meals, this ain't the place for you. But for those who want a meditative, sublime natural lodging, close to the seven sacred ponds and some insanely beautiful earth, stay.

    Response from Halemano:

Sorry you felt picked on but we did let you use the upper fridge until the last night when we had 6 more people coming in and needed the space. We can never predict how much food anyone will bring especially when coming for 2-3 nights. Sometimes you just need to trust the guidance given and graciously follow. Thanks for the glowing review, we appreciate it. All the best!

  • We spent three days at Halemano in the Ocean Front House. This is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Halemano is a cliff top sanctuary with majestic views and meandering gardens. It's like spending time in the company of an artist who has nature as her soul mate. The gardens are mesmerizing, with sculptures artfully placed throughout. The Ocean Front House is particularly beautiful, but be forewarned that the bed alcove could be a bit difficult for someone who is physically impaired. (We liked it, and we are not young in age.) We hiked the Pipiwai trail, and visited Lindbergh's grave. The hosts, including Sue, Hamid, Siddho and Miro are very thoughtful and welcoming.

  • Halemano is a rare delight- the house is beautifully constructed and fits so well with the climate and the environment. The gardens are lush and the view is amazing. There are trails and beaches within easy reach. The hosts were very responsive and welcoming. What more could you ask for. Would love to come back.

  • My Wife and I had a great stay at Halemano. We're the type of people that didn't want to share a kitchen and bathroom with others so renting the house for our 3 day stay worked great for us. Although it's only a mini kitchenette and their are a lot of bugs, that's what we expected and it really didn't bother us. The grounds were beautful, filled with artistic personal touches and we loved the openness of the house (most walls are screens or windows). Also, it's a 0.7 mile walk to the Haleakela National Park for great hikes. Would definitely stay here again if coming to Hana and looking for a unique, rustic place to stay but still want creature comforts.

  • A beautiful location, quite, out of the way, in the jungle over looking the (email hidden) to stay after the Road to Hana.
We stayed in the house, which was a bit big for us, but would be perfect for a family or two couples travelling together.

We didn't have hot water, but our host worked super hard to try and get it back on and when he couldn't made adequate changes to our fee to make up for it, which was a great solution.

If you want to get off the beaten path - find your way here.
