The Feathered Nest is a tranquil hideaway on Peaks Island, Maine. There is a hot tub on the deck, abundant bird life, and a view of Diamond Passage. The beautiful, long Centennial Beach is just around the block. It's an 8-minute walk from the village with stores, cafe, and ferry. ("See the Neighborhood" section below the reviews).
Priority is given to guests from Maine, NH, VT, NY, NJ, CT. Other guests must have a negative covid-19 test or quarantine for 2 weeks (We know a personal shopper).

The space
The décor is comfy, not too rustic, not too precious. Furnishings are mostly sturdy antiques and durable oriental rugs.

The living room with wood stove is cozy. Sofa is mattress quality.

The newly renovated L-shaped kitchen is well-equipped (we love to cook!) including a convection oven ...plus, there's a Weber grill on the porch. Also a dishwasher. Who wants to wash dishes on vacation?! The passageway has a second, Mexican ceramic sink and mahogany counter, convenient for serving the dining room.

The upstairs master bedroom is spacious, with 4 big windows, great views, and a comfortable antique queen size bed with high-quality mattress. There is space for a pack 'n' play or inflatable bed. The washer and dryer are in this area.

The smaller, cheerful guest bedroom adjoins (caution, the walls are thin) and gets morning light. It has an antique brass double bed with high-quality mattress.

The sumptuous upstairs bathroom has a double shower to die for! Like the kitchen backsplash, it's made of beautiful hand-painted Talavera tile from Mexico (Allison's own design). And, for those chilly mornings, the tiled floor has built-in heat!

Stairs to the 2nd floor are a bit steep. There's a convenient half bath on the main floor.

Guest access
The entire cottage will be at your disposal. Before your arrival I will send information about how to access the key.

Other things to note
AirBnB collects the 9% State of Maine lodging tax.

The minimum stay during July and August is 6 nights, beginning on a Saturday or Sunday.

*COVID-19 update:
Travelers from outside of Maine New Hampshire or Vermont must either (1) test negative for coronavirus within 72 hours before arrival or (2) self-quarantine for 2 weeks (and bring all necessary provisions to do so).

The new $100 cleaning fee allows us to enhance cleaning and disinfecting per CDC standards.

Enjoy exploring the island, its shores and its intricate maze of inland pathways.
- Just around the block is the beautiful, long Centennial Beach.
- For children, the elementary school playground is right across the street.
- Walking the back shore is a favorite pass-time. Certain beaches are especially popular for constructing cairns from the well-worn stones.

There are several restaurant choices on Peaks. In addition, whether you're a devout "foodie" or just like to eat, the Old Port area of Portland, just a 17-minute ferry ride away, is an epicurian epi-center, boasting many of Maine's top restaurants within walking distance of the ferry terminal. My husband and I are retired travelers who enjoy equally the pleasures of Maine and Mexico. We prefer staying in a home rather than a hotel. In our home we try to surround our selves with beautifully crafted objects by local artists. We are also very practical, and especially love to cook! It gives us added pleasure to share our homes with others when we are not there ourselves.
