A castle in the Tuscan countryside. The ideal place for a relaxing holiday, culture and good wine.

The space

The Castle is divided into 4 apartments: La Limonaia, La Loggia, I Veroni and Il Cantuccio
The apartment is located on the first floor of the Castle.
It is composed of a bright living room, double bedroom, kitchen and bathroom with shower. From the Gothic window features you can admire the panorama of the gentle Tuscan hills and the ancient towers of San Gimignano on the horizon.

A bit of history.....

The first known date in the history of the castle is July 25, 998, when the Marquis Ugo of Tuscany gave the church a wish to save the soul from the endless end of the year 1000. It was a very Benedictine monastery Important, rich and powerful on the ancient route of Via Francigena, a compulsory stage for pilgrimages to Rome.
Because of its militarily strategic position, it was destroyed in the 15th century by the war between Florence and Siena and later rebuilt in Neo-Gothic style in 1886.
Though after the rebuilding of the ancient structure is nothing but the cloister of the 11th century, still today the walls, the walkways, the belvedere and the crenellated towers keep the atmosphere and fascination of the Middle Ages unchanged.

Guest access

Within a few steps, crossing the ancient cloister, you can reach the garden and the swimming pool (17x7) immersed in olive groves and dominated by the entrance tower.

We stayed in a CASTLE!!! Nicola's place is everything you would expect to find in a castle and more! The bell on the bell tower even chimes! The drive up to the castle, the entrance across the draw bridge (pull your mirrors in), the warm greeting complete with a bottle of wine from the Hosts's own vineyard and the artwork/chapel/tower are just amazing! Nicola is a great host with lots of suggestions and tips on things to do, places to go and food to eat in the area! We will definitely be back!

Great location, we managed day trips to Siena, Florence and San Gimignano all via the Poggibonsi bus links. The castle itself was amazing, with fantastic views over the town, vineyard and Tuscan countryside. Nicola was a great host and recommended a great walk through the vineyard and the local fortress. Would highly recommend Nicola's castle as a base to explore the surrounding cities. We rented a car to get between the castle and the airport, it came in really handy for getting up and down the big hill that the castle sits on.

Outstanding experience. There’s nothing quite like looking out over the Tuscan countryside from your very own castle room window. Nicola could not have been a finer host. He picked us up and dropped us off at the train station. He was always available if we needed anything, and he presented us with a bottle of his very own wine. We spent our stay relaxing around the castle, walking through the grape vines and lounging by the pool. The town of Poggibonsi, a 5 minute walk from Castello di Badia, is full of life. There are several quaint and delicious restaurants, and we even stumbled on to a little flea market in the town square. Thanks again to Nicola for the experience of a lifetime!

The castle is beautiful and located at the top of a tall hill, up a long winding rock covered drive. It's a large structure and the entrance door is not obvious. At the top wind your way around to the left, locate and walk over the draw bridge and ring the bell for entry through the automatic swinging wooden doors. Nicola is a great host and resource for local information. He was great checking in and helping with luggage. Even provided a bottle of wine produced at the castle's own vineyard (very good!). Accommodations were as described, comfortable and beautiful. A/C worked well, nice shower with plenty of hot water, nice kitchen. Only appliance addition I would suggest is a drip coffee maker. Very convenient to the wonderful small town of Poggobonsi which has a charming central area with great restaurants and atmosphere. We enjoyed the central location for exploring Tuscany on day trips with our rental car. All in all a wonderful host and experience - would certainly enjoy a return visit.

Our extended stay at castello di badia was a absoluty amazing experience, having the opportunity to live in a historical castle for few days. The accommodation was as picturesque as described by the host. Nicola greeted us with a bottle of his own wine, he was very friendly and provided us with multiple tips of things to do during our stay. We especially enjoy the time spend at the refreshing pool. In conclusion an awesome few days. Ciao André&Laura

The castle is a magical place -- I can't recommend staying there highly enough. It is even more beautiful than on the fotos, our room was very spacious, and the views overlooking the tuscan landscape so beautiful. Nicola was a fantastic host. He was very accommodating for requests, responded immediately to emails, and he even offered to pick us up from the train station. Oh and he greeted us with a bottle of wine from his own vineyard! I'm hoping to be back at some point in the future.
