You will never forget your stay in this luxuriously appointed, utterly charming and vintage "jewel box" of a house in the Zilker Park neighborhood. The charm of our Zilker Cottage is exceeded only by its perfect location. The 5 star reviews of the Enchanting Zilker Cottage confirms how fantastic it really is and at a great value!!
This is an original vintage (approximately 650 square feet) 1940's Zilker Cottage in the very BEST location within 1/2 mile from DOWNTOWN AUSTIN with a cozy bedroom, bathroom, living room, dining room, huge kitchen, and vine covered front porch. Street parking is available (for free) directly in front of the house about 25 feet from the front door. You can look forward to staying so close to downtown but in a safe, upscale, and cool Zilker residence. Best of both worlds.
The Enchanting Zilker Cottage (pictured above) is located in front and is completely private and all yours to enjoy! It has a covered front porch/seating area and a front yard area (not fenced) exclusively for you. There are 2 other residences on the property towards the south end of the property accessible through the side backyard gate entrance. The following are some details about your Enchanting Zilker Cottage...
Enjoy this private bedroom with it's original hard wood floors and gorgeous antique door knobs, flat screen TV including cable, WiFi internet, Sealy Posturepedic Sotherby PLUSH queen sized mattress, fluffy topper, GOOSE down comforter with 100% cotton duvet cover, Egyptian cotton linens, Egyptian cotton pillow cases, and sturdy/elegant Eddie Bauer bed frame. The room is small measuring 12 x 12 with the majority of space taken by the huge bed for sleeping comfort. Closet includes wind-up alarm clock, ironing board, iron, plenty of room to hang clothes, many shelves for storing belongings, and two huge maps of Austin. The bathroom has hard wood floors, a full bathtub/shower (if you're tall...not a problem...high ceiling), Bath and Body antibacterial hand soap, lotion, shower gel, Yardley soap, shower cap, and comfy all cotton towels also provided. (We recommend you bring beach towels for off site use). The sink and tub are both original to the house (cast iron) and restored. I did, however, replace the white surround tile around the bathtub...I couldn't salvage the old tile :( All bathroom appliances (faucets, toilet, etc) are new, as well.
The kitchen is gorgeous with an antique chandelier, gas stove, microwave, refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee maker, ceramic teapot, kettle, blender, pots/pans, FILTERED water system, and tons of dishes in the event you would like to cook and dine in. On occasion, you can see my chickens drinking water from the bird bath from your kitchen sink window (they live in the backyard on the far south side of the property).
Living room ~
I have a beautiful saddle leather sofa, huge coffee table, with lots of Austin and Texas themed books and magazines on hand to read, as well.
Dining room ~
There's a fantastic mango wood dining room table (bar height) which comfortably sits four people...this is also a great place to get comfortable with lap tops, read newspaper, etc. as there is plenty of table space. It's also ideal for a great meal with friends and family!
This house is in Zilker, a residential neighborhood in south-downtown Austin that adjoins Zilker Park, 351 acres on the Colorado River. Within the park is Barton Springs, a large, naturally fed swimming pool. The nearest commercial corridor, South Lamar Boulevard, is one block away, and has many restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. About a mile away, there’s South Congress Avenue, a strip lined with restaurants, bars, vintage shops and stores like Allens Boots, which carries over 4,000 pairs of cowboy boots, along with hats and pearl-button shirts.
If you book a stay here (I can't emphasize this enough) please consider walking/running/biking this area as it offers incredible homes to admire, the famous Hike and Bike Trail on Town Lake, Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, Umlauf Sculpture Gardens, Botanical Gardens, restaurants galore (including the famous "Uchi" sushi restaurant 1 block down the street), Alamo Drafthouse, etc, etc, etc. This is a very cool and historical area of town and I encourage you to take advantage of this location. If you are bringing your bike(s), please feel free to leave them inside your house :)
Plentiful outside the house on the street. There is a private driveway that I use for a personal car only but we have unlimited street parking right in front of the house for your convenience (located about 20 feet directly in front of the front door/porch)
There is also public transportation with the nearest bus stop less than a block away on Lamar Boulevard/Treadwell Avenue in Austin, Texas 78704. The bus can take you to 6th Street (downtown), the Warehouse district (downtown), the 22 acres of the Texas Capitol (downtown), the University of Texas campus; or the Austin Convention Center to name a few destinations. Cab fare is about $5 to downtown - it's only 1/4 mile away.

Sovay's cottage was lovely! It was the perfect place to stay -- near the park, in a beautiful neighborhood, and a stone's throw away from the many cool parts of Austin. We had a great time. Thanks Sovay!
A really great place, perfectly located for being out and about in Austin's great music venues [You can walk the Saxon Pub and drive anywhere else in minutes]. Easy to park. Quiet neighborhood setting. A real treat to see the chickens outside of the kitchen window in the morning, while enjoying the fresh roast coffee.
This was my first experience with airbnb, and it was exactly what I had hoped for. I was visiting Austin under unfortunate circumstances -- my mother is in an assisted living facility and is quite ill -- so I needed a quiet place where I could work in the mornings, with easy access to the facility and within walking distance to restaurants/coffee houses/ food markets. This place was perfect...and SO cute! I promise you that everything you could possibly need is provided -- just bring your clothing and buy your own food. Sovay even provides delicious coffee (half & half and sugar/sweeteners provided too), and her father, William, will give you fresh eggs from the chickens in the back yard. And the bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Someone mentioned in an earlier review that the wifi only worked in the dining room, but I had no problem with connectivity in any of the rooms.
The neighborhood is one of the best in Austin. It was less than a 10 minute walk to Austin Java and to Thom's Market. I was hoping to take advantage of the proximity to Zilker Park and Barton Springs, but my schedule wouldn't permit it (and the weather was unusually bad). There is some construction going on right up the street towards Lamar, but I couldn't hear it at all with the doors closed.
I'll be visiting Austin frequently in the future, and I can only hope that this lovely cottage is available when I do. Thank you Sovay!
We had a very nice stay at Sovay's Enchanting Zilker Cottage! Very cute, unique place and we LOVED the yard eggs Sovay's Dad, William, brought us! I've already recommended the cottage to another friend. Thanks Sovay and William!!
This place is BEYOND cute! Zilker Cottage is situated in the Zilker Park area; which is a very active and unique section of town close to downtown Austin with awesome restaurants and several hiking trails (near Barton Springs). Our stay at the Zilker Cottage could not have been any better!! Sovay is an incredibly thoughtful and accommodating host that seems to love Austin and wants others to enjoy it as much as possible. Without question, I would definitely stay here again!
Shannon, I just received your message last night about Dad:
"We really enjoyed your dad, he is an amazing human. If it weren't for him we wouldn't have experienced Barton Springs. Thanks again! Shannon" I'm so glad you had a nice visit here and really got to experience the heart of Austin! Come again :)
This was a very sweet cottage in a good neighborhood. The street had construction crews working on utilities while I was there, but the owner worked out the parking so it was no problem at all. I would stay there again.
My wife and I stayed at Sovay's cozy & charming cottage for 3 nights. Overall we found it to be a good place to rest our heads during a fun long weekend in Austin. Sovay was very easy to deal with during booking and checking in/out. Though we had no specific purpose on our visit (besides maybe eating tacos for every meal of the day), I can see this being an especially great place to stay during Austin City Limits festival, as it is walking distance to Zilker Park.
We had some bad luck with ongoing construction during our stay. They were replacing sewer lines in the street right across from the home, and it was quite noisy for our first afternoon & following morning. After that, though, it was quiet, and I imagine this was a one time setback.
There is a good deal of construction going on closer to South Lamar Boulevard. You don't hear it when you are in the home, but it does make it less inviting to walk to businesses located on South Lamar, even ones that seem like a reasonable walk based on viewing a map. (Having said that, Uchi is an amazing restaurant less than a half-mile from the cottage and it's definitely worth the walk if you can make a reservation.)
I would highly recommend renting a car if you wish to visit other parts of town (East Austin, South Congress, anything near UT campus). Taxis were extremely unreliable and hard to get in contact with. You can catch a city bus a short walk from the place, but unless you are traveling Downtown, you will need to make one or two transfers to get where you are going.
In conclusion, cute place and good service from the host. If you don't mind driving (or taking buses) to get to other parts of town, I'd definitely recommend.
Hey Eric! Thanks for being such a wonderful guest and I am very sorry about all the construction. The Zilker Park/South Lamar area is fast becoming an extension of downtown, hence, tons of construction and growth...argh :(
I have to agree with your comments on Uchi (located down the street). It is by far the best and most popular sushi restaurant in all of Austin and now we also have Barlota within walking distance, too. Yummy :)
You did mention taxis being a little less reliable in Austin than your neck of the woods (New Jersey) and you are definitely right. We do, however, have Car2Go vehicles parked right on our street that rent by the hour so thank goodness that is also a nice transportation option. Austin has a way to go before they catch up with the East Coast when it comes to transportation options...we desperately need a real rail system and soon!
Thanks, again, for choosing the Enchanting Zilker Cottage as your landing place during your stay in Austin and hope we see you for ACL. It was an absolute pleasure hosting you!
Beautiful home in a great location. Found it to be very convenient, stocked with all the necessities, and super cute. We were kinda bummed that the antique piano in the photos wasn't there, but other than that, we enjoyed our stay greatly. William, the caretaker, was extremely nice and full of all the need-to-know Austin info. Wish we had longer to stay!
Hi, Jennifer. I'm so glad you had fun and enjoyed the Cottage!
That's a great point about the piano...my dad, William, took his antique piano back to his Bungalow a couple of weeks ago so he could play on it night and day :) I will definitely take that photo down.
Please come back and stay with us anytime...we would love to host you!
lovely, clean, great location! - we had a fantastic time! thanx!
