If the room you are requesting doesn't appear available, try the other. If you need space for 3 or 4 guests or if 2 guests each want a private room, please book "Casa Abierta Rm#1 & 2". If any room does not appear available on the dates requested, contact us as we may be able to accommodate you.

Casa Abierta is well organized and clean, but relaxed, warm and meant to be enjoyed. Great conversation and daily breakfast are included. Laundry services are available upon request.

The home is a bit more than 205 square meters (2200 square feet). The first floor consists of a great room (living room and dining room with an adjoining interior garden and patio), guest bath, large modern kitchen with all appliances and utensils, pantry, laundry room and a guest room and bath. Upstairs there is a den/library, large master suite and two guest rooms, each with a queen bed and direct access to an adjoining bath.

The downstairs floors are covered with a rich terra cotta tile while the upstairs floors and built-ins are all of fine Costa Rican hardwoods. Our home is decorated in rich earth tones and features hand carved woods, mimbre, wrought iron, fine fabrics and carpets and a collection of multi-cultural art. Almost all of the furniture was handmade in either Honduras or Costa Rica. There is wireless internet service throughout the home, a wide screen HD television, a music system and a large eclectic selection of music.

  • Darrylle has a beautiful home and is a fabulous host! I absolutely loved our room, and greatly appreciated the chance to get to know him. He offered tea and cookies upon our arrival and told us to feel at home. His home is in a very safe neighborhood. I just wish we had been able to stay longer. I can't recommend Casa Abierta enough! I will return!

  • Darrylle was an exceptionally wonderful host, who took a personal interest in getting to know us and share his life story as well. Staying with him and meeting his friends were like being houseguests of an old friend. It was our first AirBnB experience and was very enjoyable and memorable. Also, the neighborhood is conveniently located near a modern indoor mall (which had two banks for currency exchange), a convenience store, and a football field. This is very nice, especially when you don't have the energy to explore farther into the city.

  • Darrylle is a wonderful host and his home is absolutely gorgeous. My girlfriend stayed here only one night, but felt at home from the moment we walked in. We had wonderful conversation, tea and cookies. And the breakfast is amazing, just like everyone said it would be. The house is pristinely clean without feeling like a museum. The back porch is perfect for sitting and drinking a glass of wine at night or coffee in the morning. The neighborhood was wonderful as well. Highest possible recommendation. You will love staying here.

  • Casa Abierta has a very nice welcoming energy, very clean, and very good central location. Breakfast was very good and held me though lunch.
The Host was very helpful and welling to help in any way that they could. A joy to talk with and no regrets for a new found friendship.

  • Casa Abierta was absolutely fantastic! It was everything one could hope for in a bed and breakfast - clean, bright and comfortable. Darrylle was the perfect host and went above and beyond by staying up late when we were held up during our long drive. I slept like a baby in the large, comfortable bed and loved the hot shower and spacious bathroom. I truly enjoyed getting to know Darrylle who joined us for breakfast in the morning, which was delicious! This is the perfect place for a short or extended stay in San Jose. The location is also very safe.

  • Casa Abierta was wonderful - Daryl was a terrific host, and all things are as former posters have stated - comfortable room, beautiful furnishings, nice location to be close enough for walking to restaurants, etc. and a great breakfast. What makes this special is the hospitality - certainly more than just a B&B. If Daryl's there and you're up for talking about things that make the human experience a true experience, you're in for a treat.

  • I could not have imagined a better beginning and end to my time in Costa Rica. Darrylle was a marvelous host, and his house was clean and comfortable. He is a joy to talk to and really makes sure his guests feel at home. The neighborhood is beautiful and safe - a 5 minute walk from the local shopping mall, 20 minute walk to downtown, and there were lots of restaurants in the area for dinner or lunch. I hope to come back soon!

  • What can I say? When you are traveling to another country it's always special when a place feels like home. This is the ambience of Casa Abierta.
Our host, Darrylle, was most gracious. He keeps a tidy, organized B&B with healthy breakfasts, good conversation and a comfortable setting. Situated in a secure setting in San Pedro, near downtown San Jose, Casa Abierta is a tranquil respite from the city. There is a small, peaceful garden & fountain and a spacious living area on the first floor.
Rooms are sufficient size, sharing a contemporary designer bathroom. Beds are extremely comfortable and it's nice to crack the window for a breeze. Darrylle will pick up guests and deliver them to Casa Abierta for $50. Well worth it since most streets in Costa Rica are organized haphazardly and many taxi drivers are just guessing as to where they are going. Plus, you can avoid the mob of taxi drivers hounding you at the airport, marching confidently past them to meet your host.
All in all, a good stay with a good host. If you staying in the capital, this is the best B&B in San Jose, Costa Rica.

  • A warm and welcoming oasis in the heart of San Jose. A charming little B & B where you will feel at home right away. Darrylle is a gracious host who opens his home up to guests.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the conversation is fantastic. We would highly recommend this spot.

  • Extremely accommodating! We were back for our second time this trip, this time just spending the night before an early flight out of San Jose. One of our connecting flights got canceled, but Daryl was gracious enough to let me use his (website hidden) account to make some calls and drive us the next morning at 03:45 AM! Mary even made us a care package of breakfast! Amazing!
