Why stay in the suburbs of Santa Ana and Escazu, far from cultural activities and requiring expensive taxis through heavy traffic to get you where you want to go.

At the end of our street is a lovely park that runs along a creek for several blocks.

My husband and I spent a few very enjoyable days staying with Darrylle. He is a charming and interesting host, willing to help with recommendations, etc. We were made to feel very welcome. The breakfasts were wonderful and the bedroom and bathroom very clean. We even accompanied Darrylle and Maria to an amazing food market, which we would not have been able to find by ourselves. We hope to stay with Darrylle again one day.
My stay was amazing! The house was really nice and very comfortable! I rested well. More importantly,Darryl is really awesome! We spend a lot of time chatting. I highly recommend Casa Abierta to anyone visiting San Jose!
Highly recommended property!!
An unbeatable host who is highly sociable and humourous.
Darryle is generous with his knowledge of Costa Rican culture and development.
His location in San Jose has nearby cafes and restaurants, and lovely fresh cool breezes...no A. C. required! Beautifully furnished and delicious homemade muffins baked by Maria. Try to arrange a stay here , we would absolutely return next time.

Casa Abierta is one of the great finds of San Jose! Darrylle was an incredible host ( warm, fascinating, helpful, open minded, generous...the list goes on) , the food was delicious, and the accommodations were beautiful, clean and comfortable. We ended up staying an entire day just relaxing in the house and garden for a personal day of R&R to unwind from our high pressure work world before commencing our adventures in Costa Rica!
Wonderful local food and fruit and coffee for breakfast. And AMAZINGLY cookies and other tasty snacks
Set us up with local tours of area and great advice on where to spend our time in Costa Rica
Easy to come and go as needed
Central and safe location
Lots of laughter, stories and a perfect example of la Pura Vida!
Husband brought a stomach bug from the USA and Darrylle hooked us up with medicine at 4:00 in the morning !!! Wow !!!!
All in all we felt that we had found a new home away from home in Costa Rica and we are already planning our return.
Sehr warme, herzliche Begrüssung, Hilfsbereitschaft und Freundlichkeit waren hervorragend. Wir können diese Unterkunft nur wärmstens empfehlen.
Casa Abierta is a great tranquil oasis in a calm and beautiful area of San José. Our room as well as the bathroom were spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated, as is the rest of the house. We slept so well in this comfortable bed and we liked to be wakened up by the neighbour's singing cockaktoo. Darrylle has been a great host all over. He and his housemaid served such a good breakfast, it will be hard to find anywhere else in Costa Rica. Also they took us to a really beautiful farmer's market, which we can highly recommend if you are in town at the weekend. We had great conversations with Darrylle and even when our tour didn't work as planned he cheered us up with warm cookies and tea. A great place to feel home, when you're actually quite far away.
It was a fantastic stay at Darrylle's. The rooms are full of flowers and extremely tidy. The bathroom has everything one would need and bed is so fantastically comfortable! The location is also very nice. With just 3 blocks away from the 33st street with all the wonderful restaurants and only 15-20 minutes walk to the downtown.
And one has to specially mention the famous breakfast that is not only the time when you will not be able to stop from eating those tasty things, but also you can listen to many interesting stories, get tips and learn important tricks :D
It was a really interesting and important experience for me and my partner to get to know those interesting and open-hearted people.

Our simple faith is in love and compassion with no need for complicated philosophy, doctrine, or dogma. Our own heart, our own mind, is the temple. Love for others and respect for their rights and dignity, no matter who or what they are - these are ultimately all we need.
