Why stay in the suburbs of Santa Ana and Escazu, far from cultural activities and requiring expensive taxis through heavy traffic to get you where you want to go.
We are located in one of the best neighborhoods in the heart of the city – centrally located, safe, quiet and within walking distance to the University of Costa Rica, galleries, museums, parks, theaters, cinemas, fine restaurants, shopping areas and excellent public transportation. At the end of our street is a lovely park that runs along a creek for several blocks.
Easy access to all forms of public transportation. We provide safe, comfortable and efficient airport transfers for $60 and can book other tours and transportation needs.

We had a lovely time at Casa Abierta. The location is convenient (walking distance to the center of San Jose). The entire house is beautiful and very clean. The garden is especially pleasant for relaxing with a cup of tea and some conversation with a charming host. Darrylle was very helpful in recommending restaurants and entertainment options in the area. He also let us come along on his weekly trip to the market, which was a really interesting and unique experience. We highly recommend Casa Abierta if you are looking for a relaxing place to stay in San Jose.
Casa Abierta was a nice bed and breakfast for our one night stay before leaving Costa Rica. Very secured location with guard. Beautiful little garden where my husband and I sat and drank coffee when we arrived from eating. Our host was great! We chatted over breakfast oh and the breakfast was delicious! Maria prepares a wonderful bread and gallo pinto.
Casa Abierta is a wonderful oasis and Darrylle, a generous host. He warmly welcomes you into his home, which is located in one of the nicer neighbourhoods of San Jose.
The location is an easy walk into town, a nearby shopping mall and plenty of restaurants and bars. (Try out Praia near the mall)
As Darrylle describes in his description; he can provide great conversation. He has traveled broadly and had a very interesting life. We really enjoyed our discussion with him.
His two bedrooms are lovely and large, sharing a clean and modern bathroom. The breakfast is a feast (and we declined anything cooked). An array of fresh fruits, banana bread, cereal and yoghurt. And great coffee!
I highly recommend staying at Casa Abierta.
My husband and I spent a few very enjoyable days staying with Darrylle. He is a charming and interesting host, willing to help with recommendations, etc. We were made to feel very welcome. The breakfasts were wonderful and the bedroom and bathroom very clean. We even accompanied Darrylle and Maria to an amazing food market, which we would not have been able to find by ourselves. We hope to stay with Darrylle again one day.
Highly recommended property!!
An unbeatable host who is highly sociable and humourous.
Darryle is generous with his knowledge of Costa Rican culture and development.
His location in San Jose has nearby cafes and restaurants, and lovely fresh cool breezes...no A. C. required! Beautifully furnished and delicious homemade muffins baked by Maria. Try to arrange a stay here , we would absolutely return next time.
