Upstairs there is a den/library, large master suite and two guest rooms, each with a queen bed and direct access to an adjoining bath.

The downstairs floors are covered with a rich terra cotta tile while the upstairs floors and built-ins are all of fine Costa Rican hardwoods. Almost all of the furniture was handmade in either Honduras or Costa Rica. • Casa Abierta has a very nice welcoming energy, very clean, and very good central location. Breakfast was very good and held me though lunch.
The Host was very helpful and welling to help in any way that they could. A joy to talk with and no regrets for a new found friendship.

  • Casa Abierta was absolutely fantastic! It was everything one could hope for in a bed and breakfast - clean, bright and comfortable. Darrylle was the perfect host and went above and beyond by staying up late when we were held up during our long drive. I slept like a baby in the large, comfortable bed and loved the hot shower and spacious bathroom. I truly enjoyed getting to know Darrylle who joined us for breakfast in the morning, which was delicious! This is the perfect place for a short or extended stay in San Jose. The location is also very safe.

  • I could not have imagined a better beginning and end to my time in Costa Rica. Darrylle was a marvelous host, and his house was clean and comfortable. He is a joy to talk to and really makes sure his guests feel at home. The neighborhood is beautiful and safe - a 5 minute walk from the local shopping mall, 20 minute walk to downtown, and there were lots of restaurants in the area for dinner or lunch. I hope to come back soon!

  • A warm and welcoming oasis in the heart of San Jose. A charming little B & B where you will feel at home right away. Darrylle is a gracious host who opens his home up to guests.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the conversation is fantastic. We would highly recommend this spot.

  • Extremely accommodating! We were back for our second time this trip, this time just spending the night before an early flight out of San Jose. One of our connecting flights got canceled, but Daryl was gracious enough to let me use his (website hidden) account to make some calls and drive us the next morning at 03:45 AM! Mary even made us a care package of breakfast! Amazing!

  • We had a lovely time at Casa Abierta. Friendly and helpful hosts, beautiful home, and absolutely the best breakfast you will get in Costa Rica (thanks Maria!). We visited just as Darryl returned from a trip to India, and got to hear about some of his adventures and philanthropic work (be sure to ask). In all, highly recommended!

  • My girlfriend and I stayed at Casa Abierta the first night we landed in Costa Rica. This was a brief stopover for us. Our flight got in late and we had to leave very early the next morning in order to make our bus to Monteverde, so we did not have much time to enjoy the wonderful accommodations at Casa Abierta, but we were very impressed in the short time we had. Mary was a wonderful host, staying up late to greet us and make sure we had a pleasant arrival and waking up early to see us off and be sure we made our bus on time. Leaving at 5:30 am we certainly did not expect breakfast would be prepared for us and yet Mary served us a wonderful, delicious breakfast with rice and beans, yogurt, fresh fruit, eggs, plantains, and coffee. It was a wonderful way to start off the morning before our second day of traveling and much more than we expected given the early hour of our departure. The room we stayed in was cozy and comfortable. If we find ourselves in San Jose again for a longer period of time this will be the first place we look to stay. Thank you Mary, for a wonderful stay.
