**LAST MINUTE CANCELLATION! **
**WEEK OF 15TH MARCH NOW AVAILABLE! **

Our garden apartment is situated on the lower floor in a chalet located in the heart of Les Houches village.

Just a stone's throw away is a selection of French and English restaurants, a creperie, a pizza restaurant, even an indian restaurant, a bank and cash machine, a post office, local museum and Carrefour supermarket.

It is only a few minutes walk to the first local ski lift, the 'Bellevue' telecabine and 20 mins to the 'Prarion' cable-car.

Plus it is only a 10 minute drive, or a bus or train journey to the heart of Chamonix and it's ski slopes, as well as the gondola up to the Aiguille de Midi, Mont Blanc and the mountain train to the Mer de Glace.

The Apartment
The apartment sleeps 4 adults and 2 children with a double bedroom, a children's sized bunk bed just outside the bedroom (a coin montagne), and a comfy double sofa bed in the lounge.

As you pass through your private entrance you enter directly into the lounge.
The decor is clean and neutral with hints of warm purple running through the room.
The soft purple sofa opens up to become a comfy full size double bed for older children or a second couple.
The lounge has central heating but there is also an electric fire with flame lighting to give you that real fire feeling.
The lounge has a feature Crystal Rock Wall built by the original owner, who enjoyed hiking around the local mountains, and collecting these beautiful stones along his way.
With two large windows in the lounge and french doors on to a garden terrace this large room is light and airy.

The terrace is lined with pine trees and in the winter you have an open view of the valley and viaduct below. A great space for making snowmen and playing in the snow. For warmer days and evenings there is a barbecue available for dining alfresco!

Off from the Lounge is an internal storage cupboard for coats and shoes, and your skis and boots, keeping them warm over night.

The Kitchen

It is kitted out with everything you may need while you are here:

Skiing
Les Houches sits at the foot of Mont Blanc, and from the summit of the ski area you will be thrilled by a 360° view of the surrounding area

The ski area of Les Houches extends from an altitude of 950m to 1900m.
From the summit one has a spectacular 360° view of the Mont-Blanc massive, and with 55 km of slopes meandering through the forests, you will discover the real pleasures of skiing.

The international reputation of Les Houches is built on the World Cup downhill piste "la Verte", but the resort is also an ideal terrain for learners, particularly with the new beginners' area, at the top of Prarion. The forest trails are a delight for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
There is also a beginners area in the village for the little ones.

When needed, artificial snow coverage is assured by more than 120 snow maker machines, positioned throughout the pistes of Les Houches.

As well as down hill skiing and snowboarding, there are Nordic Ski paths where you can discover winter nature in all it's beauty, on cross-country pistes 'Ski de Fond' and snowshoe paths 'raquettes'. Les Houches offers 2 Nordic Ski trails: Les Chavants offers free access to cross country skiers combining snow fields and forests, and the trails of the Prarion require a lift pass as they are at high altitude.

For more winter fun you can find:
Snow Shoeing (with or without guided walks);

Ski de Fond (cross country ski-ing);

Ice Skating;

Dog Sledging;

Bowling;

And in the summer:

Indoor and outdoor climbing walls

Golf course in Argentiere.

Thermal spas and swimming lakes are just a short drive away.

  • We stayed here 14/15th march for a long weekend, with out friends and daughter aged 21 months. Its a great place to stay with close proximity of les houches ski lifts and a supermarket across the road! And luge close by for our daughter.

    Apartment has everything you would need and a bit more.

    We would thoroughly recommend! Mel was the perfect host and very accommodating.

  • We spent one week holidays in February with our two little kids.

    The appartment is well located in Les Houches, close to all amenities (Tourism office, bakery, supermarket, 10 min walk to the ski lifts, 2 min. from the bus stop to the ski slopes).

    The appartement is very well equiped and it is very convenient for a family with kids. We could borrow a baby cot, baby chair, and all what was necessary for our little kids. We could even borrow toys and DVD's. The appartement is nicely decorated and a special mention is for the bathroom (very spacious, hair dryer, nice shower products)

    Melanie and Warren are great hosts.

    After a night of snow Melanie even cleaned the parking space in order to allow us to drive our car.

    It was a pleasure to have you here and thanks again for teh croissane :-)

  • My girlfriend and I spent a long week-end at Melanie's apartment this February.

    The appartment itself is incredibly well situated: you are bang in the middle of les Houches, 1 minute walk to the boulangerie, grocery shop, ESF (ski school), restaurants, brand new tourist office. The ski lifts are a mere 5mn walk. We could park right in front of the house (despite it being on a relatively busy street). The appartment itself is very well equipped: I have been to the Alps every year for 20 years and I have rarely seen such a range of equipments, from the kitchen to the TV/DVD/Xbox... Special mention to the bathroom which is nice and spacious. On the minus side, it is a basement thus do not expect great views nor a lot of daylight. Additionally, the double bed is a bit tiny for a couple (but that might be because we are used to our super-king size bed at home :) ).

    Melanie is a great host, and she proved extremely accomodative and helpful. First, she allowed us to check in early and check out quite late (our return flight was at 9:30pm in Geneva), which was great as we could shower after our last day of ski. Second, we had the pleasant suprise to find chocolates, bread, milk, etc... and many other food items already stocked in the kitchen when we arrived. Last but not least, we had the unfortunate experience of having the heating breaking down for 24 hours during our stay. Melanie was not only very proactive in updating us on the status of repairs, but also gave us a spare heater (at the expense of her family that did not have any heating either!), and proposed to rent another nearby studio simply for us to shower (where again her family had to go to the pool to shower!). The heating was promptly repaired and Melanie graciously compensated us for the inconvenience.

    In summary, if you want a top equipped, central appartment in the Chamonix valley, and an amazing host, Melanie's place is the right one for you!

  • Mel was a wonderful host and has a truly lovely spot- I highly recommend staying there. She made it super easy to check in and out, offered her help in every way, and the place was just perfect. We felt very at home and really enjoyed our stay!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Melanie's apartment. It was very spacious, beautifully decorated, and clean. The location was perfect and a short walk to the outdoor ice skating ring and sledding hill. Our 3 little ones loved all the toys in the apartment and were entertained for hours. Wonderful winter vacation, highly recommend! A++

  • One of the best places we've stayed at in the area. The apartment is spotless, beautifully decorated, functional, extremely well located and cosy.
    We (family of 4 + dog) stayed there for the weekend and had the best time. There were toys and books which the kids discovered with joy.
    Melanie is a gem, super friendly and easy going, great host.
    We would have stayed there more if we had had the opportunity and we hope to go back as soon as possible.

    Ah, we hope to see you again soon - and good luck with the new little one x

  • Great location, great host, what more could you ask for!

    Melanie's apartment in Les Houches is a fantastic little pied a terre in a great area, extremely close to the bustle of Chamonix (about 10 minutes by car) but nice, quiet and serene!

    After a very stressful day of travel, we arrived much later than expected to a very warm welcome and a lovely baguette and some milk awaited us. The flat has everything you could need, and a very luxurious shower! Thanks again for everything Melanie, hope you and your family have a great winter in Les Houches!

About
We are both from England, and lived in the sea-side town of Brighton before we moved to France. We moved over to the Alps in 2007, on our first wedding anniversary. We bought an amazing penthouse apartment in La Chapelle d'Abondance, part of the Portes du Soleil ski domain. We had a few good years in La Chapelle, running our catered chalet, but our hearts were always in the Mont Blanc area. Warren taught himself to snowboard in Chamonix back in 1997, and then had many boys holidays here after that. He introduced me to the area when i was pregnant, as I missed out on the boarding then, we spent our honeymoon here shortly after. It has always been a special place for us. We have been fortunate enough to buy a chalet in Les Houches, just down the road from Chamonix. Living in the top & renting out the lower apartment. We feel so lucky to live here, the village has everything we need, and our two daughters are very happy.
