We are more than happy to take part week bookings but at peak times this is not always possible. Please ask and we can let you know what dates are available for the time you are looking to stay.
Our normal arrival time is 5pm and the departure time is 10:00am. Of course if you are arriving or leaving when there are no other guests here on the same day, we can be flexible with these times.
Guests have access to their own self contained apartment which is totally separate to ours and their own patio garden space with table and chairs.
Interaction with Guests
We live in the apartment above, so we are here to welcome the guests in and answer any questions they may have. If they have any other questions or encounter problems while they are here we are normally around to help. This is reassuring to our guests and they seem very comfortable with the set up.
Mountains for skiing and hiking in a village setting just 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Chamonix. Walking distance to all amenities needed for both holidays and living here. A mixture of French and English owned restaurants make it a very homely and welcoming place to visit.
Buses run up and down the Chamonix valley and the stops are just a minutes walk from the apartment. A local train station is just a 10 minute walk away which runs down to Saint Gervais les Bains and up into Switzerland
Other Things to Note
There is a great little Carrefour supermarket just 2 minutes away. It has a fresh meat and cheese counter and some great wines and breads.
The boulangerie, who also makes chocolate, is located opposite the Mairie’s office building, and we know have a new Fromagerie just opposite the chalet!
Le Chavanne just along the road is a typical french restaurant. It has quite a small menu written on boards around the room, and it does a good ‘menu du midi’ each day with a starter, main course and dessert for 13€. A good place to enjoy a pitcher of cold beer out in the sun.
Over the road is a new restaurant on the Carrefour level. Again it has a small menu but it does do a nice looking lunchtime deal for 13,50€. I haven’t tried it yet but it has been recommended.
If you travel further up the road there is an English run restaurant, Le Delice, which does fab burgers and has a little beer garden.
Opposite Le Delice is a takeaway Pizza place, lovely thin crust pizzas but only open from 6 - 9.
10 minutes walk further is an Indian restaurant, Gandhi, which offer an amazing lunch time menu for 7,50€ - You won’t need to eat dinner later that day.
If you turn right out of the house there are a few restaurants on the bend of the road, opposite the Bellevue lift. Le Basillica is a very friendly family run restaurant offering some typical and more unusual french food.
The kitsch Inn is just behind the telecabine building and is another English run place, with typical English food.
Our normal arrival time is 3pm and the departure time is 11:00am. Of course if you are arriving or leaving when there are no other guests here on the same day, we can be flexible with these times.
Included in the accommodation cost is the cleaning of the apartment on your departure, but the apartment must be left in a tidy and reasonably clean state. Bins must be emptied, bottles taken to the bottle bank, the fridge cleared of half eaten food and general tidyness all round would be appreciated.
Thank you so much for an amazing stay in your apartment. We had a fantastic time. Mel was always on hand to help and nothing was too much trouble.
The apartment was ideally located in the centre and was near the supermarket and restaurants.
We hit it lucky with the weather and had a great time skiing in the sunny resort of Les Houches.
I would really recommend this apartment and the amazing host, you will not regret it.
Fantastic! Really nice apartment, especially the kitchen, you can find any tools you want there. It is located on the high street, thus all the shops and restaurants are quite nearby. Meanwhile, it is quiet and natural, the snow mountains can be viewed from the yard. Definitely will come back if have chance!
We had the most perfect break. The apartment was exactly what we hoped it would be. Location couldn't be better. Mel is a great host and made us feel welcome from the start. We joked around trying to find a gadget that the kitchen didn't have. .. and failed! So well equipped that we ended up eating in almost every night. There is some noise from upstairs early in the mornings but if you're not a light sleeper you won't notice and if you are a light sleeper just remember to take your ear plugs! The shower was hot and spacious, the bedroom cosy and the kitchen/diner is a nice space to spend time in. The whole place has a homely feel about it and you won't want to leave. We enjoyed the retro x box (need for speed) and the internet worked well. When not on the slopes we were able to watch our usual programs from a sofa in France! Lovely holiday, thank you.
We had a very pleasant stay over the February break. The apartment is as described, and is perfectly comfortable and cozy. The location is very convenient for eating out, groceries, etc in Les Houches. Skiing there too. I really appreciated that the kitchen is very well outfitted with everything that you may need, and all the provided kitchen supplies were clean, good quality, and in good condition. It was also very nice to arrive to provisions for a simple dinner and breakfast, if needed. Very thoughtful. Also very nice that simple little things like kitchen and bath soaps and basic cooking supplies (spices, oil, etc) were present. The beds were comfortable, and the site is quite private and quiet despite the central location.
This is an ideal location for exploring the greater area. We skied at Saint Gervais, a 15 minute drive, but Chamonix would be just as easily accessible.
All in all, one of the better gites we have rented. A very pleasant and comfortable stay. I have no suggestions for improvements.
Melanie était très sympa and flexible avec nous. L'apartment est très bien et assez grande pour une famille. Location est très bien aussi - seulement 5min en foot du station de Bellevue a les Houches.
We are both from England, and lived in the sea-side town of Brighton before we moved to France. We moved over to the Alps in 2007, on our first wedding anniversary. We bought an amazing penthouse apartment in La Chapelle d'Abondance, part of the Portes du Soleil ski domain. We had a few good years in La Chapelle, running our catered chalet, but our hearts were always in the Mont Blanc area. Warren taught himself to snowboard in Chamonix back in 1997, and then had many boys holidays here after that. He introduced me to the area when i was pregnant, as I missed out on the boarding then, we spent our honeymoon here shortly after. It has always been a special place for us. We have been fortunate enough to buy a chalet in Les Houches, just down the road from Chamonix. Living in the top & renting out the lower apartment. We feel so lucky to live here, the village has everything we need, and our two daughters are very happy.
