Very minimal experience. If you are looking for a place with a great location, this will certainly work. However be prepared for late night bar fights and a very loud street after 10pm. Malee was very accommodating and the place was clean. Walking distance to the piers, great food and public transportation.
This was a great location. We could walk to just about everything that we wanted to see. The San Francisco mass transit is fantastic and can get you anywhere pretty quick. We didn't have a car and got around just fine.
The apartment was small and cozy, but we weren't there for the apartment, that was there for sleep. If you are looking for a four star or better hotel then this is not for you. But if you are looking for a great location that is close to everything than this is the place
Our family of four had a lovely 5 day stay in Malee's place. The location is amazing and the apartment, though Spartan, is clean and comfortable. I can't imagine a more ideal and accessible location. We used public transportation the entire time and all bus stops, etc. were easily accessible. The neighborhood is lovely and surprisingly local in feel. The amenities are few so you might want to consider bringing along a couple of your favorite towels and be prepared to purchase a couple of rolls of tp and paper towels if you are staying 3 or more days. Kitchen is not equipped for any major cooking, however, we were able to prepare our own full breakfasts daily and a couple of simple evening meals. Take advantage of the wonderful Italian grocers in the area and whip up your own fresh pasta!
Great location, insufficient interior, flexible key-handover
The only positive thing I have to say is that this is a great location (if you don't mind alot of street noise) and the kitchen has been remodeled, if you don't mind bending over every time you want to open a kitchen cabinet to avoid getting fingers pinched because there aren't any handles on pullout or cabinet doors. The couch is dirty to the point where you wouldn't want to sit on it, dirty ring around the tub and a dirty throw rug in the bathroom. Everything decoration wise is beyond cheap, sheers over windows, thin comforter, no mattress pads on beds, tears in sheets on bed, paper thin bath towel which you're given 1 and 1 thin hand towel (no wash cloth) for a 4 night stay. No kitchen hand towel or dish cloth to wash dishes after use. Did contact Malee regarding this and I think she expected us to use the dirty sponge that was probably used to clean the sink. She didn't understand the need for it and said that no one has ever asked for one before (but she did drop one off). There is no hand soap (anywhere) or garbage can in the bathroom. The back door dead bolt doesn't work and there is a very cheap slide lock that it would take one push to break. Didn't realize the apartment was on the 3rd floor so it was a lot of going up and down the steps for my 75 y/o mother.
This is my second time staying at Malee's apartment and it was just as convenient as before. It's centrally located so you can get all around the city on foot (if you don't mind hills), which is prefect. The apartment is minimal but we weren't planning on doing anything but sleeping here, so it suited us well. The apartment is clean and pleasant - perfect to come back to after a long day of walking around! Malee is a great host - she is in contact beforehand and is always punctual. Would definitely stay again.
Malee's place was great! Being in North Beach you can't ask for a better location. And the apartment is huge. Also, I booked this place last minute (like the night before) because I was on a road trip and my initial place to stay feel through, but this didn't really matter at all. Malee got back to my initial inquiry right away and was super easy to work with. I'd definitely stay at her apartment next time I'm in San Francisco!
My colleague and I were in San Fran for an IT conference and we wanted something that was simple with good access to the sights of San Francisco. Malee's 'little pink house' was perfect for this. It's hard to think of a better location. An easy walk to the Bay, downtown etc. It is right in the middle of a buzzy but safe neighborhood near China Town. There's an endless supply of restaurants and a great blues venue, The Saloon, is just around the corner. The apartment itself is simple but fine for what we needed. Malee was very friendly and accommodating, which was greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately we were disappointed with the condition of the apartment when we arrived to the point we immediately left and had to find a hotel to stay in as an alternative.
The apartment smelt musty on our arrival and the bed sheets really old and worn and didn't seem to have been cleaned recently.
The photos were deceiving and I should have picked up on the fact that there were only three.
We would not recommend or stay at this place again.
Apart from an unpleasant experience with Malee, the apartment being dirty (the kitchen floor was sticky and a spill was left on the counter), and not as polished as the pictures eluded- the place was as advertised. Echo other reviews: room is bright due to sheer curtains, very noisy Friday, Saturday night, dirty sheets and towels, no mattress pad or cover, stained and dirty comforters. It was gross to sleep in the beds.
Malee was argumentative and difficult with our request of clean sheets (there was hair and dirt throughout the sheets). Once she did come, she kept bringing the sheets up to the apartment one single sheet at a time and they were not properly folded. I suspected that she was pulling them from the beds in a downstairs apartment due to the time it was taking her to return with a new sheet and hearing other apartment doors opening and closing. When I asked where the sheets were from, she shoved the sheet in my face and said "smell they're clean. Go to bed" and walked away.
Seeing how there is a $100 cleaning fee associated with this apartment, I fully expected a clean apartment.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
