Located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, this House features three bedrooms and two full bathrooms (just upgraded the half bath to a full bath) and can comfortably accommodate a family of eight. * (if you have more than 8 people in your group you can also rent the lower unit for the total accommodations of 12 (website hidden) ). The property—situated within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall—is near the center of the Federal City and offers amenities for a comfortable and memorable stay in one of Washington's oldest and most sought-after neighborhoods. Potomac Metro Station is located around the corner from the property.
After Georgetown to the west, Capitol Hill is Washington's oldest neighborhood. In its earliest days, most of the residents were members of Congress who lived in boarding houses and dormitories surrounding the Capitol. As the neighborhood evolved, row-houses replaced boarding houses and the Hill began to grow as a neighborhood filled with families, as well as Washington's who's who. As you walk around this stately neighborhood, don't be surprised if you see faces you've seen in the news. A number of senators and representatives make their home on the Hill.
In addition to the U.S. Capitol, the Hill includes other significant American landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Union Station, the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks, the Washington Naval Yard, Congressional Cemetery, Lincoln Park, and the Eastern Market. All of these sights are within easy walking distance and most are Metro-accessible. Just down the hill from the Capitol is the National Mall with all of the monuments and memorials iconic to Washington, as well as more than 10 museums and galleries of art and artifacts.
To the east of the Capitol is the Eastern Market—one of the only remaining merchant markets left in Washington. While the market bustles during the week, it is on the weekends that it acquires its character and charm as residents from all over the city and visitors from all over the world come to the market to enjoy breakfast; purchase fresh meats, produce, and breads; stroll through the adjacent flea market; and browse the latest art and jewelry crafted by local artists and artisans.
During the spring and summer months, a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I Streets SE will allow you to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team in action. This 24-man rifle platoon performs precision maneuvers with their 10.5 lb M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.
Over at the U.S. Capitol, the newly opened visitor's center allows visitors to experience the Capitol from the ground up. The center features several state statues in Emancipation Hall and a museum that chronicles the history of the U.S. Capitol from its cornerstone laying in 1789 by George Washington to the present day. Tickets for the Senate and House galleries are available here.
The Library of Congress' Jefferson Building, just across the street from the Capitol, is the world's largest repository of books and media in the world. The building is open to the public and the Renaissance and classical art are breathtaking.
These and other sites make staying on Capitol Hill a must if you're visiting Washington on business or for pleasure.

Great house. We easily walked to the Metro in 5 min and were at the National Mall 10 minutes later. The restaurants on 8th St are numerous and quite delicious. Allen's home was perfect for our family of 6. Rooms are spacious, there is lots of closet space and everything was really clean. Allen is very accommodating, responding to questions and requests promptly. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to DC and Allen's home was part of the success of the trip!
Our stay at Allen's place was very nice. Our group of 6 found it's location great. So close to Metro, grocery stores, restaurants and Eastern market. Check in and receiving the keys were a breeze. Allen was always quick to respond to any questions or issues that came up during our stay.
Working with Allen was great. He was very quick to respond to all communications, and was easy to work with. We had a problem getting the internet to work the first night but he came over right away the next day and got it working for us. The rental met our needs perfectly. It was great each having our own room, and the 2nd full bath downstairs was a definite plus. The master bedroom is quite roomy and has two closets, but it does face the street so it can be a little noisy if you're not used to living in a city. I can attest to the bed in the middle room being surprisingly comfortable (think Ikea)...I slept great every night. The smallest bedroom doesn't have a closet (but does have a dresser), which wasn't a big deal since the master has 2, but it might be something to be aware of if all of your travel companions will have clothes to hang. The downstairs was rather chilly (mind you, we got below freezing weather while we were there) but the upstairs was nice and toasty. The rental is conveniently located close to the Orange/Blue line of the metro (about a 2 block walk), which was great for getting around the city. And the grocery store (Harris Teeter) that is in easy walking distance of the rental is quite nice. Being 3 women traveling together, we did have a little bit of a concern about the apartment complex across the street (noise, safety?) but it didn't seem to be a problem. All in all, we enjoyed our stay.
We had a terrific experience at Allen's property in Capitol Hill. What could be more DC than staying in a classic row house? The location next to the Harris Teeter grocery store and Potomac Ave metro station, and walking distance to Eastern Market is perfect. For families with children, there are a lot of family friendly activities in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. The house is exactly as advertised, but I'd say even more spacious than it appears in photos. Perfect for our two families with young children. The house was clean and well stocked with towels, wash cloths, paper towels and other cleaning supplies. Allen (email hidden). He was welcoming, responsive, and professional. It was a breeze to get our keys and access the house, and check out was easy as well. Allen checked in several times over the course of the week (without being intrusive) to make sure we had everything we needed. We let him know (purely for his information) that there was a broken stove dial when we arrived. He immediately offered to come replace it. That wasn't necessary, but we appreciated his commitment to making our stay comfortable. We would definitely stay in one of Allen's properties in the future, and highly recommend this location.
Wonderful stay - great and helpful host marvellous location within running distance to the Capitol Building, walking distance to the 'staffer' (email hidden), lovely old house in the historic district - we loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone.
The house is in a great location. Everything went well and the owner is very hospitable. We would definitely do this again.
I put my family in this nice place for my wedding. It was a very pleasant stay for them. We were able to gather the family and make them feel close to everything. This airbnb is 1.5 blocks away from Potomac Av. Metro Station, which made it a really safe and short commute to memorials and congress. A couple of days I even walked with my family to the capitol. Eastern Market, with its many restaurants, is 5 nice walkable blocks away.
The airbnb has 3 really comfortable beds plus an extra ikea couch in the living room that can make it feel like a 4th room. Kitchen is neat and has washer and dryer inside the unit.
The host was absolutely helpful in answering my questions. Sometimes it felt like he was responding on real time to my inquiries. That made it a really nice stay.
This apartment is great for a family or big group. We had 4 adults and a baby and were very comfortable. The apartment was very clean. Allen (email hidden), though we never met in person, he was easy to get a hold of and check-in/check-out was hassel-free. Keep in mind there are two bathrooms but only one shower. Not a problem for us, but takes some coordination with a bigger family.
NOTE: this apartment is not super baby/kid friendly. Though I believe this is stated in the description, we thought we would take our chances. The main issues (though we just worked around them) were the stairs, modern furniture with sharp edges (not ideal for a 9-month old, who is pulling up on everything and crawling!) and loud creaking hardwood floors which would wake the baby sometimes.
A good, central location with all major sites (including surrounding areas like Alexandria) only a 10-20 minute drive. The neighborhood was very lively during the days and weekends. Lots of great restaurants and bars, grocery stores and pharmacies within walking distance. Definitely walk over to 8th street and enjoy the outdoor market on the weekend! Though totally safe during the day, I would suggest driving instead of waking at night. It was nice to have the gated backyard where we could park our car in the back.
Before you leave be sure to read all the house rules. You are asked to take out all trash and wash your towels, so it requires a little extra time before leaving.
Great place to stay!
Thanks to Allen for a great stay at his house! We enjoyed the spacious and comfortable rooms. Nice neighbourhood - supermarket and metro just around the corner. Safe place for our rental car in the backyard. We would be pleased to choose this place again for our next stay in Washington!
