The Space

SUMMERLAND CABIN. Located near Guerneville and Healdsburg, Summerland Cabin is a perfect, cozy 1938 cabin set in the towering redwoods overlooking the Russian River near Steelhead Beach and Burke's Canoe Rental. Calendar can be found on the web. Search for SUMMERLAND CABIN or email me.

Its vaulted ceilings and knotty pine walls bring you back to simpler times. Warm yourself by the large wood burning stove. Or warm your muscles in the large hot tub that is practically on top of the river. Summerland has 2 decks over the river and one in the front of the house.

You have a full kitchen, a dining area and a very large 15 x 25 living space. There are 3 cozy bedrooms, one bathroom with shower and a half bath off the main bedroom. The front of the large property has blackberry bushes and a fruit orchard which bears apples, pears, figs, cherries and plums. The bedrooms maintain a cozy cabin feel with a great mix of tasteful decor and comfortable furniture.

You can walk down the short trail to the river for a splash or to fish, walk 5 minutes upstream to the beach at Steelhead Beach Park. Or go meditate in the circular stand of redwoods. Take a short 15 minute drive to Healdsburg or Sebastopol. Five minutes from Guerneville. Sleeps 6: Large BR with Queen, Small BR with Double, Tiny BR with 2 Twin Beds.

This is a personal residence and a wonderful, rustic cabin set in the redwoods, so you may see a spider or cobweb or leaves that have fallen onto the deck. It is not a 4 star hotel, but you'll love it! It is also a short drive to Santa Rosa.

  • The cabin exceeded our expectations. Our family of five (includes three young adults) had plenty of space and stayed comfortably for a week. The kitchen is well stocked, the furniture was comfortable, two decks in back were great for outdoor lounging, eating and playing games, very nice BBQ grill, and the hot tub was relaxing. Cabin was cozy and clean with nice views, very private, and right next to river. Convenient access to markets, wineries, canoe trip rentals, hiking, etc. The host was responsive and easy to work with. We definitely would (and want to) come back.

  • Just spent X-Mas on the Russian River. The Cabin was very comfortable and enjoyable. I found the prior reviews to be helpful, although the one negative review is not credible. If you keep in mind that this is a "Cabin" and not a luxury home, you won't be disappointed. The views from the deck are fantastic, the beds are comfortable, the fireplace keeps the entire cabin warm, and the television service is excellent. I love to cook, and while the kitchen is not a designer kitchen, it is obviously a cooks kitchen. Pans, appliances, dishes etc... the cabin has anything you could possibly want if you plan to prepare meals. The only negative comment I would have is the connectivity on the wifi was not strong (although that can also be viewed as a positive). All in all, It is a great place to hunker down and do nothing.

  • We loved staying at the house this weekend! It was very comfortable for 5 people. The access to the river beach is a little steep, but manageable. Floating in the river was so relaxing. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun getaway.

  • Overall we were underwhelmed with this place and won't be back. The house is about 100 yards to what is effectively a highway. There are lots of trucks and cars passing at all hours, doing freeway speeds. The road noise dominates the ambiance and was definitely not what I was looking for for our little vacation.

    The Good:
    - Nice back decks with great redwood trees
    - Nice hot tub
    - Some parts of the house remodeled with taste
    - Kitchen kit complete and ready for group cooking
    - Fruit trees with ripe apples and grapefruit
    - No mosquitos during our visit

    The mediocre:
    - Place not terribly clean, def feels more business than personal
    - BBQ not in great shape
    - I had to drive to the store and buy propane for the BBQ
    - Basement space kind of dodgy with lots of tools and junk laying around
    - Basement padlock hanging off, not in working order
    - Quite a few light bulbs burnt out or missing
    - House low/out of basic supplies like trash bags

    The Bad:
    - Lots of road noise both inside and outside the house
    - Cramped rooms, def not very comfortable for two couples (as we were)
    - River access pretty limited from the house in August -- this is not obvious from the photos or description.
    - House had a generally neglected feel -- some call this "rustic", but at $300/night, I'm calling this neglect.

  • We had a wonderful time at the Summerland Cabin. It had everything we needed. It was cozy, but overall there was plenty of room for our group to sleep comfortably. The cabin itself was rustic, but had been refurbished beautifully. We enjoyed having a fire in the fireplace on the chilly mornings. In the afternoon, once the fog burned off, we liked walking down to the river and kayaking or playing on the beach. It was a very convenient location, near a store, and not too far from Guerneville for restaurants and shops. As an added bonus, the trees out front were positively dripping with ripe apples, and there were plenty of blackberries to pick on the property! I highly recommend the cabin as a warm and comfortable spot to enjoy a vacation!

  • Our stay at Don's cabin was exactly what we anticipated. As described this is a comfortable place to stay in a great location with plenty of room to spread out and relax. Our wine tasting day trips were logistically easy from this location and the other activity options are ample including hiking, kayaking, swimming, wine tasting and just unwinding. While there is not a huge grocery store nearby there is a small local market just down the street with tons of food options. I would definitely recommend Don's cabin and his responsiveness to our questions upon arriving were timely and helpful.

  • We've just come back from an amazing stay at this wonderful cabin. The house itself is great but it is really all about the large deck with hot tub, enclosed grounds for the dogs to roam, and best of all the private access to the river. We had a great time and would definitely highly recommend it!

we ate at the farmhouse, just a couple miles away and the food was delicious, would also highly recommend a trip there.
