Where you’ll be

Paris, Île-de-France, France

To the east of the street is the Place Beauvau, where the headquarters hotel of the same name which houses the private apartments and offices of the Interior Minister. Surrounding the hotel Beauvau, prestigious brands of clothing, accessible to tourists and walkers.

A few other official buildings line the southern sidewalk, banned from public access by police and gendarmes. It is the Hotel de Pontalba, the official residence of the United States Ambassador, and the Hotel de Charost, the seat of the Embassy of the United Kingdom. A few steps later, walkers can see the Élysée Palace, a presidential residence housing the private apartments of the President of the Republic and its offices.

A little further to the west are many art galleries and antique dealers.

"Even at the beginning of this century," wrote the playwright André de Fouquières in 1956, "the difference between the side of the odd numbers and the side of the even numbers of the faubourg was immediately perceptible. There were, on the one hand, a succession of blind facades, high walls concealing mansions isolated by courtyards and overlooking gardens joining the Champs-Elysees; On the other hand, they were rental buildings, where the suppliers of the people opposite had chosen to have a shop near their customers. This division is hardly sensible today because the great patrician hotels have changed their destination. The society which was to attract a certain form of commerce in this Parisian route has disappeared, but by a phenomenon of persistence less rare than would be supposed, luxury commerce remains the prerogative of the Faubourg Saint Honore.
