The Space

This cozy cottage is located less than 1 mile from the ocean (and has a peek of the water from the front porch). The home has a modern kitchen, two bedrooms, one bath, a fenced yard, dog door, washer/dryer, and ample street parking.

Dogs over 2 years old can stay free of charge. Our gentle lab, Nilla (5 years), lives with us.

A self-serve breakfast is included. Guest room includes free toiletries.

You can rent a room for $70/night (varies by season) with queen bed or the entire home for $275 (varies by season). The entire home sleeps 5 including the living room sofa.

Many of our guests choose to sail a bay cruise or lesson with our family sailing club, Monterey Bay Sailing on Old Fisherman's Wharf. Trips begin at only $39/25 kids. Make sailing reservations at (831) 372-SAIL (7245) or by internet.

Your first question might be, "Is your place available on a given date?" Yes it is. All the dates it is not available are already blocked off. Please feel free to make a reservation. If it is not available the reservation page will tell you instantly.

We are 3 miles from downtown Monterey; 5 miles from Pacific Grove, and 6 miles from Carmel. Guests without a car can take a 20 minute bus ride (stop is one block from our home) to downtown Monterey. Biking and walking to locations around the Peninsula is also always an option as we have wonderful weather!

Guest Access

Guest have full access to kitchen, laundry, and the shared bathroom.

Interaction with Guests

We do work a lot and may not be home most of the time, but we love chatting with our guests if they are up for it. The guests we've had on Airbnb are so interesting!

The Neighborhood

We like that there is a youthful, working-class vibe...kinda like an early Bruce Springstein song.

Getting around

We are located one block from a Monterey Salinas Bus stop.

  • Awesome place to see. Hosts are super cool and you can't beat the location!

  • The house was very cozy and Dutch welcomed me warmly. I brought my 5 year old black lab with me and Dutch was very accommodating with her (even though she can be kind of obnoxious sometimes).

  • Far too expensive for a tiny room with very limited privacy in rather unpleasant neighborhood.
If you have 92 USD (that’s how much one night costs with airbnb commission), you might consider searching for a better place.
I was disappointed. The most expensive night during our 3 week stay in California, and also the most disappointing.

  • We stayed for 4 nights. Dutch and Carolyn are friendly people although we didnt see much of Carolyn.
The place is clean and Dutch was friendly and welcoming. He works until late every day and thus we had the place to ourselves for most of the time.
    It was rather cold though.
The best part was the sailing trip. Much recommended.

  • We arrived later than expected but were given easy entry instructions. Their home is very comfy and we felt at home staying in their extra bedroom. We especially liked their fenced yard as we had 2 small dogs with us. Their dog is very relaxed and sweet and had no problems with our 2 dogs. We were able to park on the street right in front of their house which was convenient. Carolyn was very sweet and Dutch offered us a chance to go sailing with him but we had planned on seeing the area and going to the Aquarium that day.

  • Thanks to Carolyn and Dutch for an easy place to stay near Big Sur when needed. Clean, nice, flexible.

  • A quiet and nice place in Seaside, just a short drive from Monterey. The house had everything we needed and check-in was very easy.

  • Thanks for a quick confirmation. Found the place fine and it is close to M=
onterey. We were greeted by Dutch and shown to the room. He quickly disap=
peared after that and did not inform us of anything. We did not realise the=
re was a tv in the bedroom until the next morning when I saw the remote on =
the window ledge and then opened an armoire to reveal the tv. We were not =
informed of the WiFi code. We were not told about the kitchen usage or no =
mention of breakfast which was in the ad. I was not sure what we were allo=
wed to use in the kitchen so we did not make coffee or disturb anything in =
the kitchen. The bathroom door stuck and actually you could not fully close=
it and it shook the whole hallway coming in or out, which we were hoping w=
as not disturbing others. Did not see the owners again to ask any question=
    s. The room is very small and hard to get around the bed. Please do not c=
onsider this place for a long stay.

I am a community college instructor at Monterey Peninsula College and special programs director at the Monterey Institute of International Studies . My husband, Dutch, runs a public sailing club, Monterey Bay Sailing, on Old Fisherman's Wharf and many of our guests choose to go out for a bay cruise or dinner cruise while in town. We have a mixed lab/shepard dog named Nilla who is very friendly and quiet.
