Interaction with Guests
We do work a lot and may not be home most of the time, but we love chatting with our guests if they are up for it. The guests we've had on Airbnb are so interesting!
We like that there is a youthful, working-class vibe...kinda like an early Bruce Springstein song.
We are located one block from a Monterey Salinas Bus stop.
No smoking inside We also ask that no ashes be left in garbage bins inside the house. Please do not park in front of our elderly neighbor's house directly across the street from the front of the cottage.
Carolyn & Dutch are both wonderfully warm and welcoming people. From the moment my girlfriend and I showed up, they were providing us with access to every amenity, a walkthrough of each feature of their comfortable and spotless home, and even personalized recommendations for activities in the Monterrey/Carmel area. Carolyn even had freshly baked Chocolate Chip cookies waiting for us on the bed!
The room itself was cozy, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the newly remodeled bathroom was gorgeous. The outdoor seating area is a nice place to sit and enjoy a breakfast (materials of which they provide for you). They have absolutely sweet dog who is gentle and obedient, who is also a great representation of the owners.
All in all, we had a great (albeit brief) stay with Carolyn & Dutch, and I'd recommend their room and their home to anyone who's looking to be within 5-10 minutes of Monterrey!
This was my first airbnb experience so I was a bit nervous! No one was home when we arrived so we self checked in- not a problem but I did feel like I was trespassing! Carolyn and Dutch's home is really nice, we met Carolyn as we were about to go to dinner and she quickly recommended us some less touristy places - we used one and it was great! Both hosts were friendly, the room is small but the bed is comfy and Carolyn has made a travel basket for guests to use; she also dropped us off some fresh cookies which were delicious!
Wonderful. Great house hand host. Do I have to leave a review every time....I don't like this.
The house had everything we needed - a comfortable bed and nice shower. Dutch was very friendly and check in was easy. Unfortunately we were never able to meet Carolyn as she appeared to be out of town. If you're looking for privacy, this may not be the place, as it is very close quarters with the hosts. We didn't mind, and our overall stay was pleasant.
There was a bit of misunderstanding in the beginning, as the door was supposed to be unlocked but when we got there it was locked. We got through that and the rest of the stay was pretty good. The room and the bathroom were nice and it was nice for our two dogs to run around in their very large backyard. The self-serve breakfast was also a great touch and the bed was pretty comfortable. I do wish there was a fan available for the hotter day, but everything else was great. Though we barely saw the hosts, their home was very nice.

My husband, Dutch, runs a public sailing club, Monterey Bay Sailing, on Old Fisherman's Wharf and many of our guests choose to go out for a bay cruise or dinner cruise while in town.
