Interaction with Guests
We do work a lot and may not be home most of the time, but we love chatting with our guests if they are up for it. The guests we've had on Airbnb are so interesting!
We like that there is a youthful, working-class vibe...kinda like an early Bruce Springstein song.
We are located one block from a Monterey Salinas Bus stop.
No smoking inside We also ask that no ashes be left in garbage bins inside the house. Please do not park in front of elderly neighbor's gate across the street from our front porch.
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a one-night stay at Carolyn and Dutch's adorable house. It's a great space and their dog Nilla is so cute! We checked in around 8 or 9pm, after dinner, and Dutch welcomed us. We met Carolyn very briefly the next morning. Overall, our stay went without a hitch. They had everything we needed and it was great to have open access to their kitchen if we needed it.
It was a great location, as we went for a Monterey/Carmel weekend trip. Lots of places in those cities were a little pricey for our budget, so Seaside was a good alternative if you don't mind the short drive.
We were very comfortable staying with Carolyn and Dutch. The room was very pleasant, and they were very accommodating.
I had a very quick stay with Carolyn and Dutch, but it was exactly what I was looking for. They were responsive to any questions I had before showing up. On check-in Carolyn happened to be home and we had a nice conversation. She let me set my wet suit out in the drive to dry in the evening and their dog was very sweet. Carolyn suggested some spots to take in the sunset. I saw Dutch briefly at night when he offered suggestions for late night dinner spots. I checked out around 6AM. The whole process was easy.
My stay with Carolyn and Dutch was brief, but great. I really enjoyed the sailing excursion. My dog also loved it! The house is a quick drive to beaches and restaurants. We spent most of our stay out and about exploring. Lots of fun!
Carolyn and Dutch were warm and welcoming, and the room was the perfectly clean and in order. It's not the most central location, and things close early in Seaside, but their house is beautifully decorated and their landscaping is lovely. It was the perfect stop-over on our road trip down the coast, and we would have loved another few days to explore!
My stay at this place was miserable. Carolyn was super nice. Dutch was mean and rude. The room is tiny with a TV and DVD that are both broken. The street noise is so loud I could not sleep and not to mention someone in the master bedroom snoring so loud it came right through the walls. The shower has no water pressure just a mist. As far as sailing with the family at Monterey Bay Sailing - DO NOT DO IT !!!!! Worse experience of my life - 55 years. We were deceived and taken advantage of. We were sent out sailing with an unqualified sailor and almost did not make it back in. This company has no regard for safety or customer enjoyment. They only wanted our money. And laughed in our face when we asked for a refund. So staying at the house was terrible. My daughter and I were afraid to come out of the room and were so glad to leave at the crack of dawn the next morning. I would never recommend this place or ever stay here again. Sorry.
Natalie, we are sorry you and your daughter did not have a good stay. We share your upset feelings as you resorted to drinking too much, using profanity and changing the story several times during your stay causing us to feel just as uncomfortable as you indicated in your post. I have been a host for three years, and that night made us question why we do this. Thankfully, nearly every guest is a treat to meet and host. We printed a document for you, wrote-out a customized list of outdoor activities, and suggested sailing with one of the company's trusted captains. The sailing company mentioned has a 100 percent safety record and has even saved several kayakers while out on the bay. A switch on the back of the DVD player was turned to "Pscan" causing the double-image. We should have Googled this when your daughter and Carolyn were trouble-shooting the problem.

I am a community college instructor at Monterey Peninsula College and special programs director at the Monterey Institute of International Studies . My husband, Dutch, runs a public sailing club, Monterey Bay Sailing, on Old Fisherman's Wharf and many of our guests choose to go out for a bay cruise or dinner cruise while in town. We have a mixed lab/shepard dog named Nilla who is very friendly and quiet.
