It was a little hard for us to find Marie R.'s house because we had not got a house number given, but since we had found the right address, we got a very friendly and warm welcome by Marie. The room was pretty much as described, we had probably thought the room was larger than it was. We got us quickly installed, ready to take Provence! We had the great pleasure of Marie spoke English. We slept really well at night even though it was very hot because there was a fan. We had 9 wonderful days in Provence. Thank you, Marie
We were welcomed by Marie at the gate as soon as we arrived and she immediately offered us a cup of tea and chocolate. This was much appreciated as we had just finish a long day of riding. The room is exactly as pictured and Marie allowed us to use her kitchen and washing machine during our stay. Her house is a short walk from a small market and bakery where you could get anything you needed. We had a great time getting to know Marie and would recommend her place to anyone trying to get out of the city.
I stayed at Marie's home in a village called Cabries for 4 days while visiting Aix-en-Provence. She is a very warm and caring person and an absolutely wonderful host. She met me at the train station which was a tremendous help. After showing me around her house she included me in a trip to Marseille with a friend and later, took me food shopping. She made sure that I had everything I needed in her home, especially a heater and extra blankets since it was cold in the guest room at night in late February. We had some good conversations over some meals together and she even invited some neighbors over to her house to meet me.
Although Cabries seemed a bit remote there was a bus stop practically right outside Marie's door; the bus took me to Aix-en-Provence in 30 minutes. From Aix Center there is a large tourism office and you can catch any number of buses to other places. Essentially, transportation without a car was not a problem from her home; it was very inexpensive as well.
Marie always accommodated my travel plans and made sure that I understood the best way to get around.
The guest room was right off of the kitchen and had its own entrance in case I wanted more privacy. The room had a large comfortable bed which converted into a sofa, a desk and chair, a table, clothing rack, a sink, and its own bathroom, which was very convenient. In addition to using the kitchen I was always welcome to use the other common rooms in the house. And I was able to wash my clothes after many days of traveling.
I appreciate all that Marie did to make my stay as pleasant as possible. On my final day, she drove me to a bus stop which made my trip to the Marseille train station much easier. I'd like to thank Marie for her hospitality and best wishes.
